Yes, supposedly they defend better as well. Repairing in orbit is the only way to do it prior to Basic Repair, but it isn't by a large enough amount to be noticable later in the game when you've got some serious repair rates.
Popup Target
Baerd: the minors will leave their sector, they just don't colonize outside of it. Of course, I'll still sell it to them :) Horatio: That tends to be my research order as well. I like grabbing diplomatic translators, and can usually pull off gravity accelerators as well. In fact, in most games (I'm up to challenging) I manage to pull off all but one or two of the trade goods. Occasionally I'll put industrial theory in before the propulsion branch of research, though.
Phaedyme, once I reached normal, my basic strategy hasn't changed much, though the 5BC/turn maintenance on starbases is really going to hurt, as I usually grab about 4 resources early on, and that 20BC/turn is really going to cramp my economy. Then again, with the morale nerfs, I can probably get away with higher tax rates to compensate, unless that gets un-nerfed.
I have. Pulled off a Cultural win as Chaotic Evil in a Huge galaxy on challenging, without firing a shot, and without anyone ever declaring war on me. In fact, it wasn't until my third game that I got pulled into a war.
on a starbase, not that I'm aware of, in orbit, yes, I've heard that, though I haven't confirmed it.
I had preordered it from Amazon, but when it was available from Drengin.net while Amazon was still saying that it wasn't available yet (they usually ship preorders a few days before the street date so that it arrives on or about the street date), I decided that the extra money for a Drengin.net subscription would probably be worth it, especially for the Political Machine.
Addressing the original question, when I play good, I can be on good terms with everyone, Drengin included, since evil are practical. When I play evil, I'm usually not on good terms with the chaotic/pure goods, because they're less practical, more snooty. I actually prefer playing good, but I have my own ideas as to what constitues good and evil, so unless I make a concerted effort, I usually don't reach pure good.
Well, both of my tech wins were "pure good" but my two cultural wins were split between chaotic good/chaotic evil and my one military victory was as chaotic good (odd game, that one, the Drengin were the only people I wasn't at war with, and I wasn't declaring any of the wars), so I guess when I'm chaotic, I'm unpredictable :). I'm finishing up my first game as pure evil, and I could win any way I wanted to. I'm in the tech lead (Overlords vs Rangers, yum!), my military is twice the size of ev
Totally off topic, but as long as we're telling stories: I decided to play my first game using random alignments. Random my hairy butt (sorry for the image). One neutral, two chaotic Evil, and two Pure Evil. Three pure Evil as soon as I realized that there wasn't going to be *ANY* payoff to being good in this galaxy. I start in the bottom right corner in a medium cluster of stars, the Yor start in a small cluster bottom right, and then, in an almost continual group of cluste
Better than expected, from what I understand.
Neither have I. Depending on how the bug is fixed, you might have to start a new game to never see the problem again, but I certainly haven't seen it since the upgrade.
I'm not complaining. I just got an extra 6 months that weren't included when I paid for it.
Agreed, many critical techs. In fact, I do a 50/0/50 split until I've beelined to diplomacy, then go for a 34/33/33 to try to get to Diplomatic translators first. A perm +10% bonus through the whole game helps if you like wheeling and dealing.
Oops, didn't mean to hit submit. The board should be smart enough to not post any message that doesn't contain anything.
Yin, it should evaluate which to take out first. Yes, if the planet is a tough nut to crack because of the starbase bonuses, and the starbase isn't a tougher nut, it should take out the starbases first. Not considering which is a tough nut leads to a different exploit, that of seriously beefed up starbases and scouts just to keep the planets from being invaded. Not evaluating how much of the planet defenses come from starbases first could lead the AI into wasting time killing fluff starbases
In my last few games I've been working on different military strategies, and one thing I usually have is that any ships above and beyond what I have designated for defense or my managed attack trust(s) gets set to auto-attack just to harass the enemy without my having to be involved. However, it doesn't work this way, because every time someone else destroys the target an auto-attack ship had picked out, it waits for me to confirm that I still want it to auto-attack. Rather annoying fo
My only issue with simply not spending the money (which is better than it is now, and definitely better than morale-boosting) is that it means that there's going to be a lot of wasted production capacity. In my current game, only about 5 of my 50 or so planets are actually building anything in their social queue, but the 5 that are are building important stuff, so I don't want to drop the social slider very far. However, if I set social to 33%, I'm wasting almost 30% of my production capacity.
No, if the owner of the trade goods is wiped out, then noone that doesn't already have the good can get it.
how about the square root of (attack * defense)? That way at least a dreadnought counts as more than an AM missle, but everything still gets counted. It still keeps anything with an attack of 0 out of the equation.
No new ideas, just my feelings. I'm not in favor of either a limit on the number of starbases or maintenance fees. I won't argue the realisticness of maintenance fees, just that it would be a radical change for the game the way it exists now. If a maintenance fee is used, then there should be no maintenance fee on say, the first 5 SB + 1/4 the number of star systems owned (feel free to modify the constants, though as a gut feel, the minimum free SB should never be below 3). M
Oddly enough, I've got the mdl and ship file, and the Excalibur finishes building, but I don't get a picture while it is building, and when it is done, it's invisible.
Hmmmm.... Imagine loosing control of the senate when your politcal party has a +200 PQ bonus. Suck vacuum, fickle voters!
There's another good point. If you trade alot, including tech trading, you'll maintain good enough relations that you'll get left alone. In my current game (huge/challenging) I have yet to build a single military ship. The Drengins threatened me once, so I gave the Antarians (directly between the Drengins and me) all my combat tech, and while it wasn't enough to kill off the Drengins, it was enough to remind them that they weren't the only major military power in the galaxy. I'm still at the
Think I'm going to play around with it to see how much of a difference it makes. The few times I tried it, the maintenance fees killed me, but I run a better economy now.
