A quite a bit harder than before :) I've had two starts which in 1.02 definitely would have been wins but now instead turned into wars of attrition that I think I will not be able to win. Nice to see the AI get even LOL

Right now culture flipping a system can easily gain a player 20-100 billion people. Compared to a planetary invasion where the entire population is wiped out and then replaced with the invading force (usually a few billion at most) this is an extremely effective way of getting new planets. To balance this, I think there should be some strife in a system when it first fails against influence (skull icon appears) and a civil war when the system is flipped. For the first failed check, just

Totally agree about the social/military boosters and also tech. All of these are easily boosted by improvements and starbases to levels where you can no longer afford 100% spending, so IMHO it is far better to go for PQ, Trade, Morale and Economy boosters - you can never have too much cash and all of these help ensure max income ;) Another tactic - in my latest game I progressed tech beyond Dreadnought before I ever had to build a military ship. To keep the peace I just got some

Hmm, well we can check the Apolyton member profiles to see if any are Europeans (likely) and try to recruit them (unlikely, but a double hit for each success as they lose and we gain!). If the website can offer something like members only access to strategies, tricks, extra graphics for the game etc then that might help as well. Impossible to really control distribution but it gives a feeling of exclusivity ;) Of course we can always focus on playing the game. They are some 35

Paradox Games used Strategy First for the US but Koch Media for the UK. This seems to have worked well and where I live (Glasgow, Scotland) there's always copies of Hearts of Iron on the shelves in GAME stores. Koch usually seems to delay game release until a couple of patches have come out though (less support hassle for them). Maybe a geo-split distro deal for GalCiv2 ? ;)

Playing Gigantic/Crippling I had to fight 4 wars (Torians, Drengin, Altarians and finally Arceans) before I reached tech victory. By then, culture victory was on the 12-turn countdown and I had the military power to win a conquest victory. Overall quite balanced in other words ;)

Haven't seen a Space Shark since my first two games and never saw the Draginol etc. I've seen the AI get a few nice events, such as 57 Precursor Corvettes in the mid-game, while I got "lucky" with 2 Precursor Corvettes as a "boost" for my 25+ Rangers :( In one game I got a popup about averting a terrorist threat when I wiped out the Dmer minor race.

Well, if you register the score on the Metaverse then you can always check your game score history by looking up your own profile.

'lo, Got 5 games submitted, finished a Gigantic/Crippling v1.02 game. Submitted it but doesn't register. Upgraded to latest version, played game to finish again and submitted (now with 1500 pts instead of 4500 pts due to scoring changes), again it doesn't register. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

Except for one game where I achieved alliance with the Altarians they have typically always been my main enemy. Torians get pushy too early and once you break them they stay broken. While at peace, the Arceans keep feeding ships to whichever side is weaker in a war but this can be countered by buying a Yor or Drengin DOW on the Arceans. Drengin and Yor like to fight, so once you see them making threats make sure you use your cash to direct their efforts elsewhere rather than p

Good points from Vorlin and they are especially valid in the mid-game. I would add that while ROI type analysis on social projects is valid in most situations there is also times when a lop-sided economy allows you to fund everything you want to. In my experience you can achieve a massive budget surplus through trade and tribute even at 100% spending at which time you can then build Galactic Research Center etc and still fund at 100%.

Playing at Gigantic/Crippling I've had good success putting 50/50 Military/R&D with 0 Social during the initial colonisation phase, extended to build the first few constructors for rush-grabbing resources. With that completed Military is dropped to 0-20 while Social get's a boost. This tends to result in every planet of a certain PQ getting the same social project completed on the same turn. Higher PQ planets complete early and can then work on trade goods and wonders. Once the early game social

With auto-survey it works great especially if you've already explored so there's many anomalies visible. Note that you shouldn't have more than one survey ship on auto though, if they are near eachother they will both go for the same anomaly so the 2nd ship never actually anything... :(

Hmm, EU2-style Royal Marriages between a human and a Yor? Or maybe a Drengin? Let's *snuggle*, eh? LOL Bad boy might be useful of course, alternatively make peace last a minimum of 10 turns or get the AI to propose alliance-wide peace treaties.
