The bug with racial abilities is one that is really annoying. I posted about it in the bugs thread. When buying +20% in a couple of abilities and getting only 10% or nothing.... well you can see how that could cause some kinks in plans you had for your race and how they'll develop :D Also have to say great work on the game and I'm surprised at the short turn-around for the first patch... definitely going to be nice to have a game with such a devoted development team behind it :)

I've been in contact with Stardock and JavaScout and the new versions of the manual will be posted on his web site. There are two formats available, PDF and Word Document. They have not been updated as far as content goes, I just OCRed the pages and tried to keep the format as close to the printed manual as possible. There are some updated (color) graphics in a few places that I grabbed from the quickstart guide that comes with the retail version. I may work on updates to the manual

Yes, it really increases playing ability. It's a very slick AI code (6 different ones in fact), though there are a few little bugs here and there that I'm sure will be fixed as soon as possible :) The only bonuses the AI gets is the equivalent of Stellar Cartography without actually having the tech. It gets this at all intelligence levels. I BELIEVE on Impossible difficulty (all AI at genius I think...) they get a slight boost to production just to give it a little extra chal

Range is the operating range of ships, outside of which they can't function effectively, due to limitations on fuel, communications, etc... once they get outside of their range they can do nothing but retreat towards a friendly planet until they are back inside their operating range. The only time I've really gotten out of range is when a wormhole bounces my survey ship to the far corner of the galaxy, at which point I'm glad they let the ship be able to get back instead of just being lost out

I think the duplicate wonders or trade goods could be due to the other civilization having it in their build queue but not being forced to change it when the player develops it first. Has anyone had two alien civs develop the same wonder or trade good in the same game? Perhaps this only applies in the case of an alien civ and a player building the same wonder or trade good, but if two alien civs are building the same thing it does force the loser of the race to switch... I guess that is somet

Racial Bonuses (what's working and what's not): Military Production bonus... appears to not work at all (no bonus received) Social Production bonus... appears to not work at all (no bonus received) Research Production bonus... works, sort of... +20% is really +10% and +50% really gives +40% (technologist party bonus of +20% actually gives +10% as well) Sensors... working fine, and I like them too :) Speed... not working at all, no speed change on ships (+1 or +2) Hit

Oh, I've never really had a problem with it... I haven't really seen a use for Stellar Cartography either by the time I actually research the tech. At least on the medium size galaxy most, if not all, of the yellow stars are already colonized by the time I could see them on the mini-map... in fact, I've never seen an effect from the Stellar Cartography because all of the yellow systems were owned and color-coded to their owner. Granted... I never run for that tech because I expand to

After months of silence, the government of United Earth came to the conclusion that "hyper-drive" would allow the colonization of the galaxy and what was likely to occur was a race to claim star systems that contained inhabitable planets. It was decided that Earth must not fall behind and the design for a colony ship was developed. Yep... humanity gave them the hyper-drive and what did they do to thank us... cut off communications and started the race for the good planets without us! N

I think they should add the ability for any one governor to hold both military and social queues... or perhaps they could create "Generals" to guide the military production on each planet? ~SDC~

I was thinking.... it might be interesting to code events so that you see the effect of your choice only after choosing the path, an information popup perhaps. And I agree that there needs to be more events where the evil path gets penalyzed but the good path gets benefits, or the evil and good are both penalized in different ways but the neutral path gives benefits or no penalties. This would add some strategy to the choices. I found this new civilization and I can either try to work

I believe there are a few bugs with the abilities you buy for your race. I noticed one time that Military and Social production at +20% wasn't giving me +1 production point when base production on a planet was 5 or above. Though the research seems to be working correctly and giving the bonus. I'm not using those abilities in my current game so I haven't been able to do any testing to see if that is truly the case or not. Perhaps a quick check on all the racial abilities is in order?

Anomalies will appear literally anywhere at any time. I had two appear right in my home sector several years into the game. I HATE wormholes. I hit two in one game that sent my ship literally to the other corner of the galaxy from my home system and all it could do was retreat home... gave me a good look at the middle of the galaxy even if I couldn't explore it and capture anomalies at the time. ~SDC~

The quick guide is only installed with the Retail version of the game. If you grabbed the large install file or bought the game in a store then you have the quickstart guide, if you downloaded through SDC then you do not. It is currently not posted on the web anywhere, but I believe one of the Stardock guys said it would be on the GalCiv web site by the end of the week, so it should be available today or tomorrow if that's true. ~SDC~

I can post the Word and PDF manuals I made on a web site so everyone who wants a copy can grab a copy. This is not a new or updated manual, just a clean copy of the one that was included with the game. If anyone at Stardock sees this, please post a reply letting me know if there is any reason I shouldn't post the manual files on the web. Then the questions is... where should I post them? Would you be willing to host the files on your site Javascout? This would keep resources togethe

I noticed several things in the manual that could use an update just on my first game. Government types and a more accurate list of the abilities you can purchase for your civilization, including cost and benefits, just to name a couple. It's about time for me to head home so I'll check in later this evening. ~SDC~

I hope it will be publicly available. Since the manual is owned by Stardock and/or Strategy First, my plan is to work on the manual as directed by Stardock and send the new versions to them in PDF and/or Word format. Then they can post it on the web or SDC. I offered to help update the manual since the developers will probably be busy working on fixing any bugs and making improvements to the game (or at least I hope so :)). I'm going to try and get in touch with Brad this evening when I get

I would assume there will be a new version of the manual posted at a later date. The word version is still a bit rough around the edges but includes (almost) all of the information from the instruction manual in the same page layout. I've offered to make any additions and updates to the manual that are needed. I think such a good game should have an equally good instruction manual :) ~SDC~

I don't know about the taxation question. Perhaps they are just so happy they are giving you money :) Now as for the other issues... the exceedingly high tribute value could be caused by some issue like the other civilization running out of money/going into debt. I believe I saw something about numbers wrapping like that in another thread. The building issue... well... you are basically buying the production necessary to build the item in the queue in one month (by next turn)

You don't need to buy the game a second time. You can use your GC serial number off the retail CD case to setup your Stardock Central account. Then you can use that account to access the direct download link for the galciv_setup.exe (~450 MB) that is identical to the one on the retail CD. ~SDC~

Planetary sliders to adjust the budgets for each individual planet would be great, as would automatically returning to the treasury any money spent on an empty production queue. Or maybe this would be another option (or in addition to the sliders)... add the following projects into both build queues instead of the "Nothing" option... Return to Treasury (money spent is added back to treasury) Emergency Fund (placeholder project that can NEVER be completed, just saves up money for fu

I didn't notice ship bonuses being applied on existing ships. I think it might only apply to ships created after you have the technology available to make improved ships. If that is the case, I wonder if there is a way to upgrade an existing ship for a reduced cost, perhaps using a starport, etc? ~SDC~

I think you can use either method to update the game. Though you might want to uninstall/reinstall Stardock Central if you have it installed already so you make sure it detects you have the retail 1.0 release of GalCiv installed. Then you can use it for the bonus pack, updates and the windowed version. ~SDC~
