Agree with that for sure.
Started a new thread to discuss further... we have surely derailed from OP... https://forums.ashesofthesingularity.com/488677/would-ashes-make-a-good-esport
Continuing discussion from: https://forums.ashesofthesingularity.com/487836/page/1/#3711598 I say yes.
It is not suited to being an e-sport.
we'll agree to disagree. I actually disagreed with most of what you wrote. There are lots of ways for a broadcaster to deal with the down time, and that is really the point. As to ratings.. yeah, I might have got that wrong, but that page you cited has to be based on international ratings, as opposed to U.S. stats; In the US, there is absolutely no way that
I've had a question about the visual rendering for a long time, and frankly I just haven't bothered to ask, for some reason. My question is essentially this: How close does the stuff on screen correlate to what is happening on the back end, behind the scenes. My reason for asking is that I have seen MANY occasions where a unit like a zeus fires off, and seems to kill another unit that was nowhere near the energy bolt. So I am curious what the logic
You know exactly what i mean and that i am right about this. Most people want to watch action. Which in a smaller scope game like StarCraft comes sooner. The viewer´s excitement does not come from "oh, he built another quantum archive", nor "he decided to go air", it boils down to "look at him roflstomping enemy army with casting the right unit ability at the exactly right moment". "Much to watch" is not as important,
On another note, Ashes is never gonna become e-sport like StarCraft, because its boring to watch, as the result of its big scope and zoomed out camera.
Oh, I don't know... Big scope = much to watch, good variety of observation perspectives Boring to watch = a little slower, well suited to viewing in contrast to the ADHD-inducing OW league Zoomed out ca
I think we have strayed from the OP's intentions, so maybe we should do this in another thread. Sounds like we are definitely starting to move into the realm of debating what an "esport" is / not.
It is incredibly doubtful Ashes will ever be a game like Starcraft. People flock to Starcraft's multiplayer because it's quick - most games average just 12 minutes in length. Ashes is a big, strategi
Ashes is not a competitive game like StarCraft
Yeah, but hope springs eternal. Ashes has the potential to be a much better game with a little further development -- meaning better than the amazing game that it already is. And while it is not (yet) "competitive" in terms of global leagues and hundreds of thousands of simultaneous players, I think it has an increasingly decent multiplayer community -- w
When that is shipped we'll reexamine what we will do regarding Ashes.
Alas. Life as the redheaded step child.
Just food for thought... but if you guys think this is a good idea, where could I post it to get the attention of the devs? Above all else, having the ability to transfer resource nodes should have been implemented from the start.
You've done what you need to do. They pay attention to this forum. But... might help if you don't use black text? (or at least it is appearing black on this mac)
e. Honestly I think GC could really expand creatively if we had easy to use editors to create our own events/early events/crisis/colonial events/galactic events and could distribute on Steam.
this
most of them are simply "big boat-looking thing".
Yes. Agree. Something distinctive would be very cool.
Strategic zoom is great, but I have always found myself wanting to move while I am fully zoomed out. What I mean by "move" is I want the ability to queue moves with shift, like I usually do when zoomed in. If I have a "pan" for instance (the little circle PHC flyer scouty thing... pretty sure that name is right...) ... I want to be able to scootch it around the map at the start of the game. It would be convenient to zoom out all the way, and then
it's obviously not perfect and there's other criticisms I could have mentioned here. There's a lot I like about Ashes over Supreme Commander such as its counter system that makes unit composition more meaningful, on top of other factors such as the better engine and AI.
The units are great in Ashes. The engine seems to be great. The AI seems to be fairly solid in terms of macro strategy. But unit AI is still somewhat lackluster, and could stand to be greatl
Good summary. All good stuff. Next step... unit AI [e digicons]O:)[/e]
I dunno. I worked in the government contracting arena for years. There were recruiting challenges (esp. background check issues), and ramping challenges. But in terms of getting more work done on dev projects... yeah, it was pretty much wave a check and get stuff done (in the long run, at least). Where there was a will... something something something. That's just my experience, though. Thanks, at any rate, for the response.
Yeah, I hear that, but if people are willing to pay for the extra dev love... well, why is that a problem?
I asked in another thread, but didn't really receive a response... so I am giving this question its own space: I vaguely recall an update where it was mentioned that most of SD's attention would go towards Star Control until that game hits the street Is that shifting yet? I mean, it feels like it has been a while. Can we expect more TLC from the whole dev team anytime soon? We want MORE: - More campaign - 3rd race</p
Yeah, we all think you're doing a great job GG. The real question, though, is when the full-on Dev drought will end. I vaguely recall you saying that attention would go towards Star Control until it hits the streets. Is that shifting yet? Can we expect more TLC from the whole dev team anytime soon? We want MAAAAWHER. :)
we currently lack the click to drag functionality of say Supreme Commande
click to drag is non-competitive. for competitive, hotkey is the way.
Another idea would be to consider allowing the player to queue all constructs from the get go. There are currently some breaks for the prerequisites, making this impossible. Ex. I can't build power regulator without quanta and armory (PHC). This would be interesting, I think. Just enable the players to queue to their heart's content. If the prerequisites aren't met when the engineer goes to build, the building could just fail and deliver
I partly agree with this. It can definitely get tedious to do the same sorts of things game after game. On the other hand, Ashes is still an RTS, and the trope of managing construction is pretty well established. And then again... <span s
