I was actually starting to play Advent a bit before I went into exile (again!). It is so relaxing to just fly my luminator / flak fleets around...kind of like when you zen out while mowing the yard. With the other races you really have to work for it sometimes. The downside is you have to listen to the chattering of angry girlscouts buzzing in your ear ..... "All shall buy our Tagalongs in Time!"

Refineries don't suck when used appropriately. I totally agree that trade and culture should go up first, but once they are up, IF a game looks like it won't be over in the first hour, AND I have a good spot where a refinery can get 10+ extractors, AND I need metal and crystal, then I absolutely build refineries. If I have a sweet spot with 15+ extractors in the area of effect, I might actually rush to get 2-3 refineries built. Refineries are not worth it for short games,
If TEC rushed Kodiaks and Vasari rushed Enforcers, I think I would put my money on the TEC player....all things being equal (like Skill level). Vasari would need a serious neutral econ to pull it off, Kodiaks are much cheaper, and become very hard to kill once Hoshi's are added to the mix.
I'd have to agree that Advent is the strongest atm mostly due to Illums and Repulse being super effective when backed by all the other Advent synergies. The good news is that the 3 races are all close enough that player skill still makes a big difference. Vasari competiveness varies depending on how the neutrals fall on the map. Vasari are my favorite race, but it can be pretty challenging on a map with no neutrals or where you can't grab some neutrals early in the g
This thread should be renamed to "The futility of trying to give people advice." You called this "the middle ground" which makes someone assume you have not won the game yet....you never said these hypothetical worlds were much closer to the enemy than to you. If you have an overwhelming force, there is no reason to take the last few worlds if they are dropping like dominos and you have culture or space supremacy. It is stupid to use these arguments in response to ours.&nb
I will likely never play a game of SINS against humans because I am such a poor player. Even in team games I am so bad I am a liability to my team! If I can team up with YOU to play other humans I may consider it in the future. OT...does this SINS game have any ranking system? Play on!!!
A lot of new online players play cooperative games against AI. This trains you to be able to play where you can't pau
The problem is that colonizing planets that add very little to your economy seems superfluos, like an extra step.
This is the catch 22. If you are winning, you should have the econ to take the planet and just throw 2 planet infra. upgrades on it so it isn't a drain. That is all it needs, don't bother fully developing it. If you are NOT winning, then you NEED the planet to bolster your empire. So take the planet.
If i am playing as
I'm a lower-middle player. I never play online games, but I may have to try multiplayer sometime. Any particular way I can tell if something's a noob server or not?
Yep, find someone with a low number of total games played and a poor win ratio -- if you play them and find yourself winning easily, they are a noob. On the other hand, if they are dominating you, either they are a smurf, or you are the noob.
Ahhh, thanks EadTaes! I saw people talking about changing ability angles in so many posts I assumed it was possible. A 360 ability probably makes more sense than a support cruiser that spins on a dime. Especially for the cost of the Overseer and tech level of the Subjugator. It might require some additional tweaking of stats so the ships didn't get too powerful. Overseers and Subjugators require so much micro to use well that by the time you have them, you are
Just curious, did you try changing the firing angle on the Overseer and Subjugator abilities to allow them the needed targetting buff without making the whole ship ultra nimble? Good luck with the mod!
Interesting changes...the neutral nerf should help balance out the other Vasari improvements. You buffed flak DPS and carrier build times by a similiar amount. This allows the strikecraft to remain in the air a bit longer before they are brought under control, with the addition that flak is a lot weaker vs other ships. One possibility is to raise strikecraft hull points 25% instead of nerfing flak firepower 25% so that balance remains but flak is not totally useless agains
like i said, Starbases Auto-Pin, and it cant be turned off, you have to unpin them manually one at a time, so unless you keep an eye on it, you end up with a very messy ET before you know it. Also, certain planets seem to become attached to the ET in their open state automatically, further cluttering the ET. its another thing it think IC should sit down and lhave a good long hard ook at
Yeah, I hate that starbases are auto pinned. Darvin, Sagewon, and Deceiver have pretty much covered it from an economics standpoint. Bottom line, you ALWAYS take the world as soon as you are able. Control of worlds has strategic and tactical value beyond their economic value. You take worlds to: - move your front line forward so you have repair and factories closer to the enemy - deny your opponent potential worlds to colonize - create buffer zones for built up economic planets Take that p
Firefly & the new BSG. Stargate isn't bad either
This movie sucked. I only watched it because a friend had it laying around. It could have been a good movie if it had any sort of meaningful storyline, but the whole premise really didn't make sense. Very, very sad movie, but it allows all the Hollywood players including Nicolas to punch a time clock and collect a pay check. Speaking of which, I didn't like Next that much either....but it was still a lot better than Knowing.
lol, but it's still only an unfair AI. One level 6 Marza can toast its fleet repeatedly.
Oh, heck no! You misunderstand, I make us fight an equal number of Unfair AI's....or maybe have them outnumber us if I have a 2nd skilled. 5 Unfair AI vs myself and 4 noobs has proven quite entertaining before.
vets should take newbs on vs. unfair AI comp stomps
I've done this before, it is actually kind of fun if you look at it as a challenge to keep the noobs alive while not being overrun yourself.
Personally I find no-rush games to be woefully boring. Someone gets a stronger economy, builds a stronger fleet, and then proceeds to cream the other side in a single decisive battle after a boring hour-long build up. Rushes are fun because the fighting starts right away, an
Not necessarily... If you have an ice world right beside you with 3-4 extractors, I'd say stick six TP's on there and set them to RF. That is a very nice boost from the beginning.
What did I say? I said 4 extractors at high allegiance. Near the HW, the Allegiance would be high enough, and since you most likely need crystal early in the game, then YES, this spot would be suitable. Not that you are likely to have RF researched this early in the game. When your trade ports
There are a lot of reasons why you are losing, probably either due to fleet composition or size. Just remember, when you jump past the outlying colonies to attack a homeworld, you have to be positive your fleet can dominate the enemy fleet and defenses. The enemy fleet has the benefit of defensive structures, culture bonuses, and is getting new reinforcements built locally that are joining the fight. If you have jumped past some worlds, it is not easy to reinforce your fleet
Awww dang. This looks funnish. I never did manage to get into one of the cap only games.
TEC & Vasari Refineries can provide awesome income if you place them well, assuming you are not overstocked on resources. It is not uncommon to find hubs where a refinery has access to 12-15 extractors. And rarely you find a sweet spot with close to 20 extractors accessible. If you are overstocked on resources, this isn't as big a deal, but most people are credit rich and buying it off the black market. An extra 1.5 - 2.0 per second of needed resources is very good
Actually you 'missed it' quite eloquently. I actually have NO feelings towards a 'Mac' at all. What I despise is the advertising. If the fuckers would just say 'Macs are good...get one" that'd be fine...but when it is efectively "if you use a PC you're a retard...only intelligent people use Macs" or perhaps "it's not that Macs are so good...it's that PCs are so bad"... both are peurile forms of advertising. Also...I don't like how Jobs decided on and ended up wi
The advent rely (almost exclusively) on abilities and how they stack to win fleet to fleet battles. Repulse is designed to separate large fleets from the groups of support, very useful since the advent are almost always outnumbered by the vasari and TEC.
Oddly, I don't find Advent to be that outnumbered in multiplayer games. The only time I see this happen is when someone gets cap happy. When I play Advent I tend to make a lot of ships.
The problem arises when a sin
Cykur what it really all boils down to is what you feel comfortable using, the old 'user friendly' approach and of course being able to run the software you need is always important. What you said is correct, a computer is just a means, a tool, to get you to where you need to be. It really doesn't matter the name (PC or MAC) or the OS that it's running. What ever the 'tool' you use it has to job you need done. In a perfect world computers would be made with the hardware you want
