if you can't get out HC at the time, you could always get out LF's which is the hard counter against flak to tide you over until you get the big guns. You could also build a second or third capital. Flak barely do a thing on caps and HC. Even 30-40 barely scratches the paint. I am not kidding, a self repairing skarkovas can easily survive continued fire from dozens of flaks
The replay is now outdated, but I posted one not long ago where I killed my enemies with flak bec

Hehe...interesting read....seems like they made some changes to put Amarr back on top since I last played (about 1.5 years ago). Just about everybody BUT Amarr was considered good in PvP. Though Gankageddons were always nasty if you landed next to one. I agree with the general posts on the Tempest...I always preferred the flexibility of Typhoons, and I also had a couple Maelstroms that I loved for raw firepower and survivability... (not a bad sniper either). I
It's not so much an experience issue with me, I'm just not really a competitive gamer with crazy reflexes and all the 'right' sequences of moves memorized so I tend to avoid most MP offerings that aren't geared toward casual gamers. I play games to fool around and do random stuff and MP generally equates to play to win, which just isn't my style. Ironically, or perhaps not, one of the ones I do enjoy is TF2 since it tends to favor good setup and execution rather than classic FPS twit
I never got around to using these either, but I can think of uses. The main one would be to stick them in choke points so that if people try to run their fleet past your chokepoint, some ships might get seperated and stuck. Or if someone tries to kite your Orkulus with carriers, this might snag some carriers now and then allowing your Orkulus to nom nom nom them.
(if there are any nice players in the [_] clan then i am sorry).
The clans have no monopoly on obnoxious players....every online game has em. Most of [_] are very decent guys, and as players they are skilled enough to have earned some respect. I can only think of one who is a huge smacktalker, but you just have to ignore it....it is part of the game for some people. As for the rest, you will never be happy if you let the squirrels on t
In SP, you can get away with almost anything if you aren't stupid about it.
Yeah, pretty much.....the main reason it works against the AI is people keep withdrawing caps when damaged and repairing them, rather than losing frigates.
its just that usualy my caps are escorted dy hoshikos.... so cyk, you can chais them as much you want
You wouldn't attack me with just 2 caps and Hoshiko's because I'd have cool stuff too. Of course if you have help, are being fed, or I'm attacking you, yeah, it can be a problem.
It works well against the AI because they won't chase down a damaged cap. Generally not a good idea if you are going to be in combat with another player soon. Whenever anyone tries this vs me, they better believe I'm chasing down a damaged cap after they kill a few of my frigates. If you arn't going to be in combat with anyone soon, it is possible to go for two caps early; just remember that one cap plus frigs will level faster than two caps. Having one cap hit
My point is that if you cranked out 3+ kosturas, they should have had a fleet 2 times bigger than yours.
People who focus more on building defenses early seldom are able control as much of the map. Entrenching is valuable if you have allies winning their fights that will come rescue you, or if your opponent actually suicides on your defenses. Otherwise, the player who can project power ends up with a bigger empire and has the resources to emp
It looks like you fought such a game - an already won game that you just finished off using the fanciest tools you had.
And just for the record, I don't need Kosturas to beat a bad player. I need a Kostura to beat a good player that is being a jackass and fortifying instead of trying to win, and I need Kosturas to beat multiple bad players if my team isn't pulling its weight. Of course you use the fanciest tools at your disposal....you are criticizing
It looks like you fought such a game - an already won game that you just finished off using the fanciest tools you had.
As soon as they started Entrenching to hold me off, they start losing because they can't project power as hard as I can. I built no starbases that particular game. It was against another member of DT. Killing another Entrenched Vasari is a slow painful process of finding the chinks in their armor and slowly expanding your holdings whi
You could also have capturable factories with unique ship types that can be produced for free, but with extremely long recharge times...like 3-5 minutes. Kind of like a mercenary generator. Yeah, it would be a very ambitiious mod. WC3 is tailored for this sort of thing....Sins is a strategy game. I'm just giving ideas on what should be possible using capabilities demonstrated by the game itself.
That is kind of interesting.... I'm assuming that Sins has some type of triggering / scripting language since it can spawn pirate raids, Returning Armada, and the TEC Insurgency power.... and there is something the logic that controls AI's is to work with. You could create a large number of unique structures that are capturable structures that have a diverse selection of RA like powers that trigger spawns targetted against your opponent much in the way a pirate
the problem with the parallels and vmware virtual machines is the graphics support. parallels doesnt do a good job with directx and vmware isnt much better. it makes sense that they would struggle because there is overhead from running xp in a VM that sits on top of OSx. my bootcamp partition is 6 GB which is enough for the xp install and 2 games. (i also play homeworld 2 alot) so there isnt much of an impact on hard drive space.
Yeeesssss......that is why I was asking
the performance on the macbook pro is more than satisfacotry even on huge maps with massive fleets, full graphics and mods!
A macbook pro running bootcamp? Or Parallels or VMWare? Those are the two best emulators I'm aware of as well. I just don't really want a bootcamp partition on my mac right now....they are annoying. I might get around to it eventually, but if a Mac Pro is powerful enough to run Sins in an Emulator, I would give it a try.&nbs
Ok now you can send your brave fleet into his territory. Bam, jump, wooosh, whatup. You're in the lion's cage. NOW WHAT? Your Kostura will reload for 6 minutes. You are most likely NOT going to colonize the planet anytime soon, because YOU ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF HIS TERRITORY = HIS CULTURE OWNZ YOU. You are also going to have company pretty soon. YOU'RE ATTACKING VASARI, remember? They have phase stabilizers too. Even if you siwftly kill the one in your current gravwell, t
even repair bays wont be able to hold of carriers, just move the carriers so that the cobalts are forced in leaving its range most of the time they wont even have to, becuase repair bays do not reach far enough to repair a light frigate o nthe grav well edge anyways chasing the carrier back to the other players grav well would probably not have worked either, i was able to deplete haf of the carriers hitpoints when it bailed out, by then i lost over 10 cobalts, an
Am I the only one who's noticed that the Marza's hull is held together with tinfoil, duct tape, and wishes?
Well...only a few capships are very hard to kill. The Marza is reasonably sturdy, but like most capships it will go down when focused. As you mention, it is all firepower.
First off. If you let a Marza get to Level 6 in anything smaller than a multi-system game, wtf.
Ummm....we get Marza's to level 10 in si
OK...just for the record, I totally agree with you that Vasari vs Vasari is difficult. I have other posts in other threads where I mention this is like trench warfare where it is difficult for either side to make progress. As you mentioned, trying to get your own offensive Orkulus in play while dealing with an enemy fleet, a full grown Orkulus, other static defenses, enemy strikecraft, and probably mines is a massive pain in the ass. Now, to respond to your comments:
Hey, has anyone tried to run Sins in a Windows XP Emulator on their Mac? I know it probably wouldn't work, but I suspect some enterprising fellow has tried it. =)
Desolator is niche atm. They can be used to do some very select very devistating things thou If Egg was not so uber, I would use it a lot more.
Completely agree. The Desolator is a very good ship...it just happens to be a little overshadowed by the Evacuator for its main purpose, planetary siege.
Watch my latest replay named 5v5 mixed, it is why i love entrenchment LOL. It is pure win. Aside form me you see one other player deploy early starbase to gain a strategic advantage!
Everyone whos skilled should admit it... Entrenchment is good because of quickplay , the fix to flaks , the fix to carriers ..and because everyone else has it , its only way to join games. mines , starbases...these are for the sp peeps. Wish there was something that would disable starbases ..because I feel dirty using them , when they have obviously been designed for singleplayer where 3 hard AI fleets love nothing better to do then not go around Starba
I remember when I chased your damn egg into the pirate base, limping with about 200 hp. Alas, it still survived
Hehe, that was AWESOME! I think I got out of the pirate base with what...100 structure? I am guessing you lost some Assailants to angry piwates. =)
