While I love Sins of a Solar Empire, I find it a bit more on the RTS side. It is quite deep for an RTS, but it has limited empire building components, so while you CAN play epic sized, epic length maps, I find it repetive because you run out of technology options and planetary development options rather quickly. Here are my recommendations for very deep space strategy take over the galaxy games: Galactic Civilzations 2 with all the expansions is probably y

OK, math informs us as to what is possible, but does not equal gameplay. An assailant without phase missile upgrades has the crappiest damage of all the LRF. (LRM are much cheaper, so they supply DPS with numbers.) Luckily phase missiles are good, so with a couple upgrades the assailant dps becomes "acceptable". This is how it should be, because Assailants are tech level 1 while Illuminators are tech level 3. The time counter to escape your cap ship does n

Tragically, it is much easier to call for a tournament than it is to find a Sins clan that can actually produce 5 members on demand at a scheduled time. The Sins multiplayer community is small and casual. The only reason BIA and DT get so much recognition is because they have enough persistent hardcore players to not have disappeared after a month.
I tried this last night but failed badly. My microing skills probably need more work. I could not get the LF that I wanted to use as bait to move quickly enough to kite before it got killed. It still sounds like a good idea.
All things being equal, LRM will shred LF, even if you manage to get things a bit in your favor from skillful micro. This whole thread about "Light Frigate" strategies is missing the point -- you don't set
I have to add that Advent HCs apparently only have heavy armor. I got absolutely schooled by a guy using Cobalts to counter my HCs.
All HCs have Very Heavy armor, not Heavy. Light Frigs such as Cobalts do very bad damage vs Very Heavy Armor, while HCs do good damage against Light Frigs. In short, if you got schooled by a guy using Cobalts, he must have outnumbered you and outplayed you, because the light frigs vs HCs is very much in the HCs favor. &
I think that is because the path finding is calculated by absolute time, not number of jumps. If you have the faster-phase-jump artifact it might be faster to use a detour through wormholes. It should be fixed nonetheless, as well as all those fleet-movement-annoyances.
Nah, it is a bug. The time I saw it, I was trying to force the star to star jump by lining my ships up at the edge of the star. If they had jumped, they would have been in the othe
I've had cases where I attempt to perform a star-to-star phase jump, only to have the fleet constantly refuse to take one phase jump in favour of 8 or so jumps through a wormhole.
I saw this once....it was pretty bizarre. I had the star jump tech and could jump to one star just fine, but the other had a wormhole going to it and my fleet, even when put in position at the star edge to jump, would turn around and fly back to the wormhole and make a wor
So Cykur, are you going to make a reappearance for this?
Well, considering I don't have a computer with Sins on it....and I am bouncing between a friends house and living with relatives while I job hunt, it doesn't seem likely I can coordinate a game. I played a little this morning on my friend's computer, but he doesn't have Entrenchment installed -- first game I played in a month. Maybe at some point I will set up a bootcamp partition on m
Is it me or would playing on a map made by a player in the opposition seem a bit unfair? I would say that a random would do the best. Best out of 3 is fine by me but it seems rather pointless. After all, we are basically the only 2 active skilled clans. Its not like we couldn't play again regardless of the outcome. Getting mapf**ked is always a risk that you have to deal with but its not an insurmountable thing. We are supposed to be good at adapting after all. Just my 2 cents.<

If you are truly being Assailant rushed, you can use scouts as a cheap spammable counter. 3 scouts kill 1 Assailant. This should give you time to move to fighters / flak / hoshikos...whatever more complex strategy you want to employ. Advent have the easiest time countering Assailants because they have tough scouts and only need 2 labs to get carriers out.
It's too bad that custom maps aren't viable for online multiplayer. (Need custom map auto-download.) If they were then we'd already have a bunch of other maps to play and P5yy could just design a map like he described himself.
Custom map auto distribution is the way to go -- it will empower the community.

All the LRF's behave a bit differently, but assuming someone plays them to their advantages, Illuminators are best overall. LRM are good for their cost, but kinda fragile. Assailants NEED to be upgraded, or they are the worst. Without their upgrades, they are like a chubby hard-to-kill LRM, just more expensive.
IC said they wanted SB upgrades to be hard choices and perament choices. I doubt you will see the ablilite to redo your upgrades.
It would be too easy to build economic bases everywhere, then scrap those upgrades for combat ones if an attack became imminent.
Crashtrust me LFs are a hard counter to flak. Roughly 1/3 the amoutn on flak that you have in LF will be enought to wipe him. So if he's got 30 flak 10 LF should be sufficent. However dicciples migth ahve some troubles so 15 migth be preferable. I don't play advent very offten so can'T tell you for sure exactly.
repulsion doesn't interrupt phase jumps.
If you push a ship around when it is trying to line up to jump, it has to keep re-aligning for jump, so repulsion can interfere with jumping pretty effectively. I've lost caps to this before. =) Very annoying.
