It really, really doesn't. RTS's, contrary to the Blizzard school of thought, are actually pretty lousy story telling devices.
But this was partially my point. This game is different from most RTS, it is 4x and with slower pace with much longer games. And even if with "normal" RTS some excellent campaigns are possible, take for example all time classic Starcraft. Just imagine how well it could be done here!

I am playing and really enjoying this game, but I think the creators missed a golden opportunity to create campaign here. The game itself is so well suited for campaign it is not even funny, it is better suited to have campaign than any RTS I know. Here are the reasons: 1) The game is extremely complex. It is the most complex RTS I know up to date. Each race has so many research items; each ship has so many abilities that I am still lost. Having campaign could grad
So what is the counter for LMR frigate? I know there is heavy cruiser, but in order to build it you have to build 5 (!!!) military stations and research it, while Vassari can do research of their version of LMR frigate with just one military station! So, whats the counter?
Bump? Can anyone at least mention the natural "counters" for different type of ships? Like what is the counter for long range missile frigates?
I am trying to find good description of how exactly combat works. I see that different ships have different weapon types, like beam, plasma, etc. Also, there is different armor type like light, medium, heavy. And also, there are shields and numerical value of armor, like 1 or 3, which can be either increased through research or through special abilities of some ships. What do all those things mean? How are the damage calculations exactly per
Yeah, if only I could notice myself that it is not the capital ... It would help if it is mentioned in the description of the map. I was trying to guess what a hell is wrong with the planet without success.
I am trying to play the Gaian Crescent 2-player scenario with Advent, but I think the problem is similar for any race. You start for some reason with allegiance of 25% limit instead of usually 100%. It does not increase over time either. That means practically 0 income (actually it is negative untill you develop planet population to the second level, then it is 0.7/sec). You have just enough money to build capital ship and that's it. You economy is dead, and all you can do is to protect y
So, eating babies is good?
I always thought that it takes time for the influence to "propagate" and the save file does not contain the influence itself, so it takes few years for the influence to propagate back. But you may be right, it could be just modifiers.
Not exactly, the borders look different when I just load, and the problem is not that obvious, but it is still there at the same place. By the way, at least in my case in all GalCiv games and expansion packs, when you load the game the borders are not the same as when you save.
Rereading my post, it does seem very similar what Civipedia can do. And I thought while writing the original post "from where do all those nice ideas came to my head?" :)
First of all I like that finally there is some kind of help system. Thank you so much. But here are some more things that you can do to significantly improve the system: 1) In many cases the description is simply not sufficient. For example, many Galactic Achievements do not have any description other than the name itself. 2) There should be a way to see if the bonus is system-wide or planet specific. 3) The technologies themselves are not right-click-able. It would be
Is it possible to have a drop down list of the sorting options (i.e. sort by name, size, ownership and so on), rater than click gazilion times on the left or right arrow? I understand that when you had only few sorting orders, it is acceptable, but now, it is just too much.
I do not see the reason to have that limit at all. If you want, have a limit of how many life supports you can put on a single ship, not the range limit. It just does not make sense.
I knew that you will ask for the saved game file. I have just sent it. Let me know if you did not receive the e-mail.

Of cause SD should look for their own interests (including financial) and decide when to release, but for me personally as a gamer I would vote for not even January but February. The reason is that even now (beta 3)the game is very interesting, so I am already happy what I have, and what I will have to play during Christmas holidays. But releasing it later, means more cool things will be added into this version of the game and more polish. And I can not see how anyone be against this if you
Stardock, do you realize that you are that close to produce the game that I value more than the whole civilization series? Great job!
I do not know why, but even the beta version of TA is more interesting than vanilla GalCiv II or the first expansion. Even now, the improved graphics, interface and changes in gameplay makes it worth my money. And yet it is far from being done! Good work Stardock!
I think this is the one and the most important thing which makes the game much more accessible to the new players and even to the veteran players. The game manual just does not cut it. The in-game help system is very important. You should be able to right click on anything and get some description. Like what is "trade treaty", what is "teraforming ability" and so on, "how influence is calculated" and so on.
Anyway, my point is that there just isn't that much difference between the environment of a gas or dust nebula, and what we call open space...
...except one crucial difference - density. If you want to be even more sci-fi-entific, then one can say that the wrap drive capability of "warping" the space is inversely proportional to the density of the matter in the surrounding space. This, by the way, would perfectly explain why it takes only slightly longer t
Yeah, I know, but this comes only later in the game and it is not reflected visually on the map.
"I don't like fantasy effects like gas or dust nebulas that cause ships to slow down," Are you sure that wrap drive will work in gas or dust nebulae? It is quite possible that in order to "wrap" the space one needs very clear vacuum, more clear than in the nebulae. But in any case I am of course more worried about the gameplay. That, plus I want something like railroad (or wrap-road) which would significantly accelerate the ships, like +5 or times-2 movement.
What I miss in GalCiv games and what makes me go and play from time to time other games like Civilization, is that GalCiv has practically no topological features. The easiest one to implement would be something like asteroid fields (non-mineable) which can not be passed at all. Then one can make something like black holes that also block a part of space. I also would like to have something that I can build that changes the topology. Like lay the mines or built a wrap gates or s
I do not know why it has not been fixed years ago, but the movies are still stretched if you have 16:9 or 16:10 screen. Is it possible to correct this? I mean just add the black bars on the sides...
