Maybe the Athlon can't handle the multithreading. Try updating your drivers, BIOS (don't laugh, I've seen this fix games), XP and anything else you can think of. And close down unecessary programs and system trays.

:notsure: Maybe he was thinking of Terror Stars as "evil tech"? I haven't used Terror Stars (I'm only neutral, and usually win the game pretty early) so I'm not sure what they're classified as. If they are evil tech, I'd be concerned if a Pure Good race got their hands on them (unless it was through conquering). Maybe absolute power corupts absolutely? LOL

I'm talking about early game, where there's no way the AI has built any SBs because of the planet grab, doesn't have the range techs yet (in two cases, the empires in question didn't get propulsion theory for quite a while). Oh, and the case I talked about at the begining of the thread, where the colony in question was FIVE sectors away (medium galaxy) from anything else its empire owned (and don't say it was a UP event, because I was in the UP before them). And anomolies that increase

Arcanum, early game colony ships can't move beyond sectors adjacent to a sector with a colony or starbase. Try it yourself. Click the i button on a colony ship and it says, Range: 1 Sector. Try moving a colony ship out side of this range and you should get a message saying you can't. What I've been saying is, I'm seeing these colony ships, in the beginning of the game, move to sectors that aren't adjacent to their empire's controlled sectors.

How about the evil choice for the Precursor factory? "And WHAT? I've told you before: people are a RENEWABLE resource." In fact, many evil choices are funny. Underwater domes: "Dump the underwater pukes. I need room for my chemistry set." Boil plague: "We'll call it Boilshire Farms: Flesh Nectar. Only true suffering could produce a drink this refreshing." Oh, and Shoujo, is the Microsoft reference the TerraWindows one? Is Microsoft run by aliens?

I just had another encouter with this early (turn 25 or so) in a medium sized galaxy. I had searched through the surrounding areas, but there weren't any starbases or hidden colonies, and the info on the colony ship was that it still had a one sector range. As for the Altarian one described above, their home world and surrounding star cluster was isolated by two sectors in every direction (medium sized galaxy), and they put up starbases just after I got there.

I've seen this in three games in the last two days. The AI seems able to send Colony Ships to good planets outside their range. One time this happened, the Altarian empire that was supposed to be in an isolated corner managed to colonize a planet on the other side of the galaxy. This wasn't a UP event because I saw the ship colonize it. Later, this empire declaired war on all of the other empires except my own, and since I was between this planet and the rest of the empire, it sent lots

It seems that the population size is dependent on the planet's value and morale ratings. It will always grow if the moral is above a certain level. The only way to get more people on the planet is to increase the planet value (e.g. Soil Enrichment) and the moral (Entertainment Center). This also explains why the random events involving indiginous populations affect a planet's moral.

Huh? Needing the Senate to approve war? That's RL. You don't need to control the Senate for war (as far as I know). You just need to make sure that your party is the majority or you will be penalized (even more if the opposing party is in control).

1. If the ship's is in the one of your star systems, double click it to get a screen to load the colonists. Set it to a number greater than 0 (I stick with 100) and click launch. Once it's on the map, select it and tell it where to go. When it gets to an uncontrolled system, you'll get to name the system, then choose the planet to land on using the sidebar on the right side of the screen. 2. If you hit Turn, the autopilot will work before the next turn starts. If the ship reaches its de
