I think that at the beginning you should put at least 400 colonists in your ships, maybe 300 if you are competing with a neighbor ... a smaller amount makes the start up of this planet very difficult. But you can imagine putting 100 (as in the first colony ship available) to quickly jump on a promising system... The amount of population you should leave depends on the planet quality and i have no "magic numbers" yet. You have to colonize the other planets of a same star system

Sure the scoring is kinda weird ... a cultural victory on a medium map brought me 3429 points .... it was my first game with all races being 'fools' !!

Guys, I think we should more refer to a "reality", I think that the percentages sliders not only concern money but also the workforce. So what happens if your "military" workers don't have anything to do ? You can hardly imagine transferring them from one system to another (even between planets of the same system) without losing some time which would depend on the improvements already available and so on... Even if the game allows you to set global sliders for your em
