Some people say the game is good enough the way it is. That's a valid position. Some people think tactical combat would ruin it. That too is a valid position. I think the developers took some really bad shortcuts when implementing this game and ducked the tough issues. On the GalCiv home page it says: "When you buy Galactic Civilizations, not only do you get the game in the box, but long term development to add features and enhancements to it long after release." So, what

Here is my review of GalCiv on PC Game Reivew. I tried to be fair and honest, giving it a score of 2 out of 5 and warning other gamers that they might not like it. Leto Silvermane from New Port Richey, Florida on 4/5/2003 9:40:29 PM (wrote): General/Summary: Galactic Civilizations is Civ in Space. It's another dry 4x space game with weak graphics and sound that will appeal to die-hard fans but leave most people dissapointed. Gameplay: Exploring the galexy is fun, with
A reviewer on PC Game Review www.pcgr.com gave GalCiv a 2 out of 5 with the following review. I'm posting it here because it expresses my sentiments exactly. --Mrky from Novi Sad on 4/2/2003 5:54:12 AM (wrote): "General/Summary: I don't know what's with these new 4x games. I mean, people out there are making masterpieces like Mafia for example (I realise it's a completely different genre!), and nobody seems to be able to make a decent 4x space TBS. Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels tactical combat would improve the game. I'm not a troll. I'm aggravated and disappointed and that's why my posts are a little blunt/rude. To be fair, GalCiv has many excellent features. First, the user interface is clean and intuitive. Second, the cut scenes are well done. Third, game is well balanced. Fourth, the random events and United Planets accomplish the goal of "never the same galaxy twice". Finally, it is relatively
Sigh, another dry, half-implemented, 4X space game with lame graphics and sound and a legion of grognards defending it... I guess I'll just have to hope some other company can create a worthy successor to Master of Orion II. I'll play GalCiv a couple of times to try and get my money's worth and then throw the CD on the pile of mediocre games in the closet. Leto
What a weak bunch of knee-jerk reactive replies I got from an important and reasonable suggestion. Ok, let me try to respond to some of these. "The immense positive feedback this game has received is enough to rebutt your pathetic claims." It's a good game vs it's a bad is irrelevent. The game is what it is. I'm trying to get a feature that will enable me to enjoy it more into the game. It really aggrevates me that many years after Master of Orion II came out, no
The game is a non-starter without tactical starship battles like Master of Orion, Ascendancy, Imperium Galactica, and most other turn-based space strategy games. The fleet battles are where the action is! You guys skipped the hard part of developing the game and focused on the easy window-dressing part. Having technologies like turbo-phasers is weak without being able to see them fire in combat. Ok, so you took the easy road and the game is only half done. You've g
