npb equalizer, Try changing: TECH Precursor Captol Ship to: TECH PrecursorCapitolShip and: INVTACTIC Poison Supplies to: INVTACTIC PoisonSupplies I don't think the game will accept spaces in the titles of ships, events, etc. Also I would avoid changing SurveyShip, ColonyShip, Constructor or any of the other coreship titles... you can change thier names and stats, but I would leave the titles alone because the game looks for th

Thanks Arturus, that was indeed the problem! Unfortunately I submit that this is a bug for the following reasons: 1) Headers in .ship files can't have spaces in them and it looks a little silly in the planet list to be building a SurveyShip instead of a Survey Ship ;) and 2) Changing the core ships causes a crash to desktop (CTD) so there is definately hard coding in there. I suspect the game is trying to give each race it's free surveyship and colonyship at
Yoink! ...and yet another misnomer: I changed Survey Ships to Sensor Ships and Constructors to Engineering Ships, but the planet list still shows SurveyShip and Constructor... I wonder if the improvements are also hard coded like this (Soil Enhancement, News Network, etc.)??? Also I wonder what will happen if I create a new ship entirely? Will it show the correct name in the planet list??? (Guess I will have to go experiment and find out!) Finally I noticed that the en
Gee... try to compliment the developers and everybody wants to rain on the parade :( Oh well *I* for one still think it's one of the most, easiest and funniest games to mod so nah :p ...and I hope Bard, Cari, Scott and the others will continue to appear here on the forums to answer questions and offer new improvements and bonuses!!! :)
HawaiiFive-O that is very cool! It will take a lot of tedious thought out of writing events (which string goes where). I for one would definately like to see you finish it!!! :) :) :)
This is probably a dupe (sorry), but on the main interface in the upper right hand where it says Sector: 3-2 (or whatever sector you currently are looking at) if the Sector numbers are both double digits such as when playing a huge or gigantic galaxy i.e. Sector: 10-10 it causes the font to spill over a little on top of the interface... maybe drop the font a tiny amount like by half a point or less (if it was six try 5.5 or 5.75 etc.) Also when you click on a star system the civilizatio
Also - I was surprised to find that Mitrosoft, etc, all are not in the English.str file can I beg for those as well Cari? ;) ...and I tried changing all of the references of bc to mc (mega credits) in the English.str file and bc still showed up in a few places: All of the Mitrosoft, etc. offers have amounts in bc Domestic Policy screen, economics tab - all references are still in bc Foriegn policy, stats tab under misc. - still shows bc A reallly minor thing,
Yikes! That did it! Thanks Scott!!! :D Brilliant... simply brilliant. I... Love... This... Game! PSSS (Another interesting / weird thing) - I decided to change the terran logo in that folder also, but alas no joy (:( What if anything does terranlogo.pcx replace in the game (err... or what is it *supposed* to replace?) Thanks so much!!!
RustyBlade, Thanks for the links!!! That OCRed game manual is a Godsend! ;)
Rusty please post your results here! For the record I had no problem replacing other images including trade and message images. :) ... didn't start messing with the .bik files yet tho'
Just because a game like Half-life or Quake has a million mods doesn't mean it's easy to mod. Show me another game that requires only notepad and a freeware program like ACDSee or Ifranview to modify. Also MOST of the core elements of this game - the technology, units, races, random events, etc. are directly modifable with NO external third party programs! Just open up with notepad! Heck the designers not only commented the files, but are gracious enough to come here on the for
I just wanted to say that having tried to modify hundreds of games in the past - Galactic Civilizations is one of the easiest and most modifiable games I have ever had the pleasure of playing (and playing with!) LOL Kudos to Brad, Cari, and all of the other developers! You guys (especially Brad) get a lot of heat on the forums and a ton of complaining from users and whining for new features (me included!) and damn little praise. So here it is: THANKS SO MUCH FOR MAKIN
Actually any main stream graphics program - Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro... heck even ACDSee.. will convert a picture down to 256 colors with minimal loss (well as minimal as 256 colors allows!). Be sure to always use "perceptual" color sampling when lowering colors. I've had little problem with any pcx or tga conversions working in GalCiv and most are not too "grainy" looking. Of course 16 or 24 bit color *would* be nice... ;)
PS - These race PCX are also a different size then the ones in the race setup... the ones in the race screen are something like 200 x 155 PSS - also those race images are flipped the wrong way! They face mirror what the ones in the race setup screen do!?!
Nope doesn't work (at least not with 1.02.4x) It should... and I wish it did! Sorry BoogieBac :( I take it this is a bug?
I did some palying around with the PCXs and I'm fairly certain that the Race "face pics" in the setup screen are part of the interface and not replacable in the GFX folder (:( Which kinda sucks if you want to do a "total conversion mod"... (no no the Torians are the Martians... see just look at the names under the pictures... I know the Venusians look just like the Vor... ignore the pictures - once you get into the game it will all be fine... :notsure: ) Any chance t
Coolies! Thanks :)
Cari, I see that 1.02.042 adds an excalibur.mdl file... should the data file excalibur.ship be updated also??? I.E. //---------------- SHIP Excalibur //---------------- Name "Excalibur" Model "Ship14" * should be Model "Excalibur"? or no leave it at Ship14? and/or does tech file need to be changed? Thanks!
Hmmmm... (1) What / Where is Galactic Council forum? (2) Does DarkHelmet have a website (and if so please post the URL) (3) Thanks!!! :D
>bump. I'll ask someone to look at this. Not my area. ;) Sorry Brad. I guess you've become the Star of the show... I forget that there are plenty of other devs to bother hehe ;p Thanks for pointing my suggestions to the right person (or vice verse!). GalCiv is such a great game! Gotta love the support you get too :D
Oh... in that case: CariElf You Rock! :) (and change the title to CariElf Please Consider... heh ;))
*bump* Sorry don't want this to get lost in the shuffle! ;p
Oh and... [Jan] Jan [Feb] Feb [Mar} Mar etc. [StartYear] 2178 I know, I know... I just keep asking and asking... ;) Thanks Brad for considering it. Changes like these really give Galactic Civilizations a loooong and fun life! :D
Once again I come begging for gifts... I know you are overworked and underpaid (heh), but please consider adding the following entries to English.str instead of hardcoded for us fanatical modders: [Sol] Sol [Earth] Earth [Mars] Mars [Saturn] Saturn [Alexians] Alexians [Carinoids] Carinoids [Scottlingas] Scottlingas [Kwilasians] Kwilasians [Sanderons] Sanderons [USS Discovery] USS Discovery [USS Hero] USS Hero Thank
