Agree that alignment fits in to your overall strategy. If you want to be a trader/alliance partner, go for good. If you are a warmonger like me, go for evil and use all the goodie bonuses to crush everyone else ;) I like this alignment thing too, adds a nice flavour to the game.

mlepinski I would like to think that luck gives a very slight bonus to all my dice-rolls (no explicit evidence though.. Brad's statement on luck was brief - "#24 by Avatar Frogboy - 4/5/2003 3:31:43 AM Creativity increses the chance that you'll get a technology sooner, it's a random event type thing. Luck works similarly." However, I do feel that I have been lucky with regards to random events. In my four games thus far, I've not encountered any ser

Well, I found that I could buy a bunch of defenders off the Yor (IIRC) while it was in a losing death match with 2 other races. The AI could be made to value military hardware more when it is at war. This is not critical fix though IMO as human players could always refrain from exploting this.

SpaceHondo You would probably win via cultural victory if you do mop up the dregs and own 2/3 of the world and are at peace with the rest. You would not need to conquer every single race if you are not looking specifically for military victory. I've not seen much surrenders, just once or twice in my four games and never to me. They seem willing to fight to the death. I too belong to the group afraid of a tedious end game, so I've refrained from playing huge and gi

The one-pointers I choose together with my speed and economics bonuses are luck and pop growth. I like to go for abilities that are "active" in every turn (as opposed to military abilities which would only be useful during war or research which would only be useful if you are doing research). ~SDC~

Most of the morality choices I get are from colonising planets rather than events (eg 2 headed squirrel/pokemon game) so once all the colonising is done, I think it would take quite a few random events to move it significantly. Should be easier to get them through trade or conquest from opposing morality civ. As an evil civ, the only good tech i miss is hyperwarp as i'm a sucker for speed. ~SDC~

My initial impressions with a few games is that the advantages of the bonuses from evil choices outweigh the bad relations with good races. Especially the production bonuses (research bonuses for some reason doesn't seem to show in the planet details - not sure whether that's working properly) of 50% really give a big boost to the planet in the early stages. The good and evil techs seem pretty even, in fact i currently prefer the evil techs - dark side, advanced slavery, master race, etc. S

The AI is a master at expanding in the early game and its much easier to fund research when their income is also increasing exponentially. Don't get too worried about being left behind at tech in the early game. Focus on your own expansion first. U can also find ways to get back into the tech race once you are more established.

Just finished my 4th game (all genius/large). Some of the strats I used wre: 1) 100% military/expenditure to churn out few scouts and 2-turn colony ships, ending when my treasury is near depleted and I’ve gotten a good number of systems. So far I’ve never felt the need to buy anything except in a real emergency. 2) Research to get impulse drive and universal translator 3) Continue to churn out colony ships to colonise every single 15+ planet within range 4) Focu
