Thanks Za H, very informative. Definitely PQ bonuses, as you had observed. I presume there is a similar but lower set of bonuses for Genius level?

I've also found it a whole lot tougher on Incredible in the latest update. No PQ15 :) and AI who are very reluctant to buy tech from me in cash. They still are willing to exchange tech but it is extremely tough to exchange tribute for tech. I believe I only managed to get it once from a minor race near the start. Subsequently, I couldn't get any interest from both majors and minors to buy my tech even though some of them had 4 figure sums in their treasury. I thought the I-League shoul

At my end game now, my BHs have 8 speed and 5 range so they are an effective offensive weapon as well. The AI should be building these much more especially for defense. Still have not seen AI BHs so far in my games.

Economics is a powerful pick. Currently speed and economics are my favourites. I also chose +50 Luck in my current game and well, I have not really seen any clear evidence of its power yet in this game. However, there is some indication that this ability would be enhanced in subsequent updates (maybe more lucky events?).

I do agree that they need to be beefed up. Currently it costs as much as a Battle Hammer but it takes 6 phoenixs to beat one BH. BH maint is also half of phoenix. The only use currently is for raiding but corvettes are cheaper, faster and as effective against transports and trade ships. They can't be used to attack Battle Transports as it takes 4 phoenixes to beat one BT. I've seen for the first time in the latest version, extensive use of this ship by the AI. The Arcea

1.03.054 1. Drengin researches Mind Terror Weapons (Alignment 30) while its alignment is Saintly. Observed in Advanced Espionage. I believe they researched Dark Side (A 10) as well but I did not eyeball it. 2. As Vorlin above, I also observed the time lag between destruction of starbases and the actual effect.

I thought Majors start off with Stellar Cartography or equivalent powers? So why would they want to buy it? The question is whether you would want to spend valuable research points going up that route at the start of the game when there are loads of other cheap and very useful techs around. By the time we get some spare research, it is often no longer useful.

Stargates would really be great for those of us playing bigger maps. However, I could already think of building a stargate at home, parking a vast armada next to it and merrily sailing my stargate constructors into the heart of the enemy empire. So maybe only stargates in controlled sectors or fixed wormholes. The AI would also need to learn how to use them effectively.

Free starbases were deemed to be too unbalancing and the 5/bc solution was chosen out of a few other options (see sticky starbase thread). Not sure what map size you are playing on but 8 resources would likely turn your game into a carewalk. Well, I guess we need this change to stop people from building 144-starbase ship catupults :)

You have a very good chance of getting the wonders and trade goods you want on all difficulty levels if you are willing to lease-rush them (like the AI will do). There are some critical ones which supplement my strategy which I always rush. This is made easy by the very long lease period that is offered by the last supplier (Mitrosoft?). Once you get past the initial critical growth stage, it is very easy to service these leases. Before Brad and team goes and tweak this :) , I do share

Re Vorlin's comment on not wanting sterilisng fleets arising from the new bombardment unit. It would seem strange that transports have the ability to invoke mass drivers or core detonations but capital ships can't. But if the bomb units become too powerful, it may negate the use of transports (for those who don't care about taking over the system) and terror stars. Again it is an issue between gameplay and "reality". A nice balance should be found giving this bombardment unit a role bet

I know you probably were not expecting this rough a ride on normal difficulty but I would have loved having this kinda challenge right at the end game. Well, seems like you are nearing beyond human anyways, so you should be able to wing a tech victory by going all research.

Interesting discussion. Just a thought that most of us have been influenced in many ways by great games we have played in the past and somehow we want Galciv to be the one game to rule all strat games. Great as this game may be, it would never meet all our expectations. But I think it is still too premature to pass judgement on a game that has been out for such a short time and which the developers have committed to improve the game based on feedback from all of us. So let&#821

Not sure whether it would be easy to scale the pick though. But is speed really not so important in smaller maps? My only experience with small maps are with my first few games (i chose speed) and I do remember that I managed to grab all the good systems leaving the other races with very few systems each. Then it was a cakewalk (the low AI difficulty contributed to this as well, I guess).

Perhaps you should have tried the other cheese tactic of getting a major to declare war on the minor while parking your transport next to the system waiting for the last defender to get blasted out of orbit.

Well, its a good thing. In the previous patch, morale kinda became a non-issue (esp with the PQ bonus). Could not recall when I lost an election, even with Star Federation.
