One exception: it would always move instantly to at least 20% if its target is higher to avoid population death. Why? Why must people insist on being insolated from their errors, that is why the difficulty levels need to get so rediculous. Does anyone really enjoy playing games where the AI has a 500% bonus and 20 different abilities? If people would just accept their mistakes, and take their lumps the game could be much easier and still difficult.<

How about random events which only occur if the slider is above or below a certain amount? For example, low investment (slider setting) on research leads to a brain drain throughout your empire as the more scientifically minded citizens look for opportunities elsewhere, leading to a penalty in research (or you could have a leading scientist quit a project to work elsewhere, wiping out all research accumulated towards the current project). I'll make my criticisms of this a little more clear and to the point. These have to do with general tenets of strategy game design that I hold, that other players may not. Wow I wish I hadn't read this thread, makes me understand what I had merely suspected while having a good time. The economic side of this game is completely broken. That anyone can suggest such a strategy with a straight face is a pretty stunning indictment of the balancing in the game. Almost any game I have been semi-involved with would be all over that like white on rice. It would be the number one issue in the next patch. I signed up for stardock central because having everything automatically download is convienent and seems like a good idea. Anyway it does not seem to work for me. Specifically it claims that I already have the updated version when I do not (for exmaple it says I have version 1.02 but will not let me update to 1.03 because it claims I already have updated, yet when I start the game it has not been updated as there are no new governments), so I end up having to download the patches from the
