2 Class 26 planets in the same sector? Try 2 in the same system, plus a 15 and a 14 to boot. Can we spell Capital? I knew you could. And the best part is that it was in the Alexian's starting sector and I still got it. :d Actually, since I didn't get it until a couple of years into the game, and they had colony ships orbiting their home system, I wonder if they didn't leave it for me. I play on humongous maps, and believe me starting position is everything, as far as I can tell.

I also like Medicine Man's tiered map idea, or the idea of wormholes leading to a new galaxy. Anything to add exploration and expansion phases to the mid-late game is highly desirable and makes them a lot more interesting and gives a possibility for late game surprises or changes in the balance of power. Ideally, I'd love a scaled game, kind of like Age of Napoleon (I think that was the title) where your options grow as you expand. What I'd like, for example, is first you have to deve

One thing I have found that has come to characterize 4X/strategy games is the importance of the initial land grab. In simple terms, if you get the most first/prevent the others from getting it you win. Obviously skill can have a significant influence, and a good player can overcome some difficulties, but a fundamental part of a good strategy is to do well in the land-grab phase. When thinking of space-games, you're talking about a universe filled with billions of galaxies each with b

Regarding choosing the range bonus in 1.03. I recall reading that it was going to change it from +10% to +1 or something. I chose the range bonus +1 at startup, and when I check out my stats it says +1%. I recall that previously colony ships on huge maps had a starting range of 3 with no bonus. Despite having chosen the range bonus at startup, my colony ships still only have a range of 3 on my new 1.03 game on a huge map.

Alf, if that's the case then it doesn't add up from what I can recall. I take PQ +15%, colonize a class 16 world and get PQ of 18 (lovely!). I build soil enhancement (+10%) and go to 20. I build the next +10% (habitat improvement^, can't remember), and go to PQ 22 (as I recall, I'll double check tonight ;), if my wife lets me :sniff!: ). Under what you propose, we're fine for the first improvement, but for the second your formula should give 16*(1.35)=21.6, so I should be s

What else does planet class directly affect? Does planet class directly influence pop growth, tax base, construction/research? By what %? Confirm or Deny: I know that when planet class is improved, the amount is rounded down, i.e. 16*1.1=17.6, a 16 planet class becomes 17 not 18 with a 10% improvement. But it appears to me that the remainder is kept in future calculations, when the planet is subsequently improved, i.e. that class 16 turns into a 17 with the first 10% but a

I have read the early strategy posts, but I still have some early game strategy questions related to the relationships between taxes, morale and population growth. I can raise taxes a lot in the beginning so that my economy is going full steam (100% spend) and not incurring a deficit, pumping out colony ships quite often (military slider set to 50-55%). However the decrease in morale causes population to grow much more slowly, meaning that my colony ships are going out with few people
