Perhaps a more realistic color scheme might help.
Yes! Absolutely! I mean...just google "wargame red dragon" and look at the design of units trails color scheme and stuff....this is how it is supposed to look like. It kinda makes you care about the units. Of course aots is much more futuristic so the units can look a bit more shiny..that wont hurt....but it is the missing realism that bothers me. [quote who="m

Hey folks, I didn't find a post about the artwork for the units and buildings, yet....so I wanted to know what you think about the current state of the unit/building design. In my opinion the landscape looks quite realistic and I like it so far. The units and buildings on the other hand look in comparison to the realistic landscape more like a cartoon version. I read somewhere that the explosions and stuff are just placeholders right now. Does the same apply

you should give unittypes in the zoomed in level unique icons...e.g. a circle for tanks, triangle for rocket launcher etc... if you zoom out further and there is a clumb of same unit type just keep one circle instead of dozens but put a unitstack next to it. let people combine those units types to a fleet and just show the unit composition and strength. like for example in red dragon: <a href="http://grogheads.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/AirLand-

I'd like you to have a short look at act of aggression. They didn't have a zoom feature, too....but now they implemented it. And they originally wanted to create a look and feel of command and conquer. For me that is a strong indication that zoom is a feature, that cant be left out anymore. look here: http://steamcommunity.com/games/318020/announcements/detail/5214121627
What we don't want to see mainly are endless icons on the map. We aren't against having some other abstracted zoom out concept but it won't be endless little icons.
Did you consider to change Icons in relation to zoom distance. Like showing less Icons e.g. just the meta units when zoomed out and more detailed icons when you zoom in?

yeah...its kind of the successor of homeworld although the story is located before the homeworld franchises. But I expect it to be out next year (earliest). They just launched the homeworld remastered edition...so...this gonna take a while i guess. I like the transparent style. It has a control/command center feeling for me. I dont like the kind of icons that you cant see the unit anymore in strategic view.

I'm with Brink on that strategic icon issue. It is even more a necessity if you think about implementing meta units and armies. You could implement strategic icons in a descreet way like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjCSmCLG59c Look at min 16:49 or 32:20. It doesnt has to be the oldschool icon style like in Supcom.
