Well, I would agree that 200 per turn is excessive but as little as 15-20 per turn will slowly but surely get the info you want.. I think espionage is valuable to get fleet sizes etc. The thing that annoys me is clicking a minor race starbase and being told that I need to spend more money on espionage when that is not possible. If I can't spy on them at any cost, they shouldn't have secrets. Another thing that was
Franco fx
It ends the game. YOU ARE DEFEATED! Long time ago I was trying to figure out how to demand surrender from the Torians (not knowing that it is not an option). Somehow I clicked surrender and send. The Torian thanked me very much. Of course I restarted from autosave but it was still embarrassing to be way ahead and accidentally surrender
That is the way I understand it. So it follows that a trade boosting starbase in your home sector will not help much with your own freighters but they will help mightily with freighters from other races. To boost trade income from your own freighters you should build econ starbases in and near the destination sector
Long live the Kinz and may you earn a worthy name
I've been pushing for stargates for a decade. It complicates the AI programming considerably. I guess it is a matter of teaching the AI to use them correctly. I can see how that might be a problem
You mean *Terminus*, not Trantor, don't you? Yes you are correct. That would also invalidate Harry as leader since he was already dead. I was looking for the flavor over accuracy. My memory may be faulty on this but didn't Harry rule the Empire from Trantor for a short time be
Surprised no one has mentioned the Larry Niven ship names, Lying Bastard and Hot Needle of Inquiry. Just goes to show the possibilities are endless
Good idea but maybe call it a warp signature and have it show up when you click on the ship
You can't group your ships with the small freighters AFAIK, but I think there is a proposal for the United Planets to protect freighters and you can build a wonder (or was it a super project?) that does the same. You are probably correct on grouping with freighters. The only way that UP resolution is likely to pass is if you have mos
While I haven't tried it, maybe you can combine freighters into a fleet with an attack ship. Considering the relatively low cost of freighters and the difficulty in providing them with effective protection, I just keep some extra freighters to replace any destroyed. If you are dealing with pirates, no escort is likely to be effective and in war time I have had some success fending off freighter attacks without actually escorting them all the way. The AI seems to prefer blockade to sea
Don't have problems like you decribed, Franco Okay you twisted my arm. Worked great and the tutorials are quite good. I wonder who they get to do the voice over? Contracted I assume but could it be an employee with a nice voice. Either way they are very well done. I also wonder what happened to the missing tutorials. <i
I have to laugh at myself on this one. I have a naming protocol written out which names each design in a way that identifies the class, weapon and defense and keeps them sorted by size/class on the shipyard screen
It is a lot but it wouldn't be as much as you seem to think. There are ten races + the minors but there are a limited number of situations. It's not like you are having a conversation. Playing as a human the other nine majors will have X number of snappy lines to deliver but not so many you don't see the same line often. Something like "hello Alan I thought I smelled you coming" you might see several times in the course of a game. Not to diminish the work involved but it is
I have stolen tech in GC2. In one game after maxing out the espionage I started getting a tech every 10-15 turns. In other games none. I don't know if it is just random or what determines your success but it has always been later in the game, well after you have maxed out the spying.
Only info gathering. Destabilization is no longer covert. (I was never quite sure how or if that worked anyway .)
My first shot at a custom race was The Foundation with home planet Trantor and leader Harry Seldon. Yeah I know, that's not a mod but Foundation would be a decent project for those with the skills. Other mods worth pondering would be an Edenist mod or a mod based on Vinges zones Since stargates are mentioned in the game a neat treaty might be the ability to establish the gates with select races to facilitate additional trade and assistance. Has a nice upside and
They are in the GFX folder. Some said that you can view the tutorials if you have the Bink viewer. It is available free but I chose not to mess with it due to past problems with various add ons
Hmmm, I have never played a game that I didn't have recession(s) and Booms. I didn't exactly like the recessions but as long as the AI has the same to deal with it is okay.
I was trying to look at the tutorials The tutorials will still just be images if you don't have the bink viewer. You can D/L it for free but I decided to wait
not sure what you mean. There are currently 4 shipsets? in addition to human. They are Calamari, Draconian, Kodan and Vogon. Are you aware of those? With the additional parts and colorization the possibilities are nearly infinite
Can't stand losing, so I will go no higher tha beginner in the first game. Once I have a couple of victories I will move up. I was holding my own at Challenging with the beta but I tend to get easily frustrated and give up too soon when I get behind. I beat Alpha Centauri a couple of times on Transcend but I usually prefer lower difficulty, less intense games.
I agree with marioflag. Civ4 is okay and probably good as a multiplayer game (I don't indulge) but it is nowhere near as captivating as Civ2 or 3 and is not as good for single player as Alpha Centauri. A game can be humorous without being silly.
Could I create a front line of heavily armored and shielded ships to absorb the enemies attacks, while I have a rear group of missile armed ships to provide the firepower against the enemy. Will the computer put my ships in this formation? First of all the ships must be combined into fleets to get the cumlative power effect. You could use the s
Wasn't exactly fast and there was a wierd incident where in the middle of the D/L I was asked to upgrade SDC. Anyway, took me about 4 hours (no restarts required) but it is all loaded and waiting for the activation files. OS: WinXP SP2 (English) Server: Chicago Purchase Method: pre-order directly through Total Gaming Network Connection Type: Cablemodem (Odds are someone will crack it before 2/21 but it will have to be someone smarter than me)
I seem to be dl a file every 3 seconds. but I am up to 21% after about an hour
