you effectively increase difficulty by ~2 levels with a single increase in the alleged difficulty for most of the maps as you go above normal.
Yes but what's the point of playing maso if you sit and watch your teammate kill the opponents for you? It's not that difficult to survive if you've got an ally, except if the scenario puts you in a very bad situation.

On inverse difficulty of allies. Note I only said "A suicidal difficulty should have incredible opponents and dumb allies." I didn't mean an easy game should have incredible allies. You can in fact make the switch to normal: If below normal, allies are standard, over, they are inverted. Trading techs between teammates shouldn't be cheap. It should be automatic and free. Again, I want to stress that I like teh expansion, not that I like it 'a lot'. It would get 7 in 10, not 9 or 10/10.<br

Mind you, I'm not saying I don't like it, I'm saying I dont like it 'a lot'. 1) The amount of events that are available is too tiny for me to play with it. Events must be things like 'if you invade planet X, then ships are created for race Y'. I haven't seen that possible. Civ2 had this, and more. 2) If the teams acted as humans would (sharing all techs for nothing for instance, and coordinating tech research), it would be interesting. Right now, it doesn't feel much different from being

What a MoM II needs is indeed more in the graphics and AI domain, but also probably more in terms of gameplay, for instance in the role playing department: More management choices (buildings, but that's more micromanagement too), quests (not just the here's a cave should I go there type, but more elaborate, like do this then that), and diplomatic options. AoW was quite disappointing for me, though I liked their siege model (you needed breachers), but then they got rid of it in AoW2

Sensors are indeed good because you have no way to increase them in-game except eyes of the universe. I still prefer +speed. Using an extra scout (or even survey ship on bigger maps) gets a lot of the map uncovered for relatively cheap.

I agree with Code Monkey. The expansion is quite good but not compelling. Neither the campaign nor the new features are enough to prompt me to play this game rather than to move on to something different. I can't answer the poll.
I wonder how people would feel about a Master of Magic sequel (i.e. Master of Magic II) rather than Elemental?
If it's just the name, I don't care. However, if there's a difference in content, you should give us some details about what's in Elemental. Where can they be found?

Poincare gave them a physical meaning. He suggested in 1904 that a new physics should be made where the celerity of light would be an upper limit. That is really physical meaning. Poincarre was however tagged as a mathematician, and the physicists refused to consider him as a physicist, which is exactly what you are doing. As a result of that, they hardly read him or listened to him. Einstein has to be given credit for the madd-media work he did around it and for the genial generalised relativit

No that was not after. He first published 3 months before Einstein did in 1905. The problem is that he did so in a mathematical review, not a physics review. Now Einstein certainly discovered it in parallel, but still, the first to have discovered it is Poincaré. One reason why Einstein wasn't given a Nobel prize for relativity in 1914 was Lorentz pointed out Poincar" had found it before Einstein. You can also check what Poincare said in Missouri in 1904. The so-called Lorentz transform has been

Total bullsh*t. E = mc2 was discovered by Mathematician Poincare, not by Einstein, along with the invariance of movement of an object in 4D space (i.e. both fundamental equations of restrained relativity). Einstein expanded from that, and later found(ed) the general relativity. [Message Edited]

MoM. It definitely needs a better ai. In fact, if you just took the game with the same graphics, UI and rules and put an ai in it it would be huge for me. I never played Star Control so I can't say, but I'd definitely buy a MoM sequel (or any game where I can take over the world with a single overpowered beefed up hero who lets adamant armed hammerhands keep garrison duty in the conquered cities).
Besides, what if I wasn't planning on conquering them? Maybe I just wanted to weaken them, or take one strategic objective.
Like you werent' trying to win the game? If they consider they have lost, they act accordingly. As Damon, I have never seen the last enemy surrender.

I think this was an exploit that the devs got rid of in one of the earlier versions of the game. So the ai will be able to leave the star to fight even if you surround it with (crap) ships.

Some points addressed in the first post still hold. The game requires lots of micromanagement on the biggest settings, and things like waypoints didn't really helped in my opinion.
It doesn't have to be this way, and I know exactly what game mechanisms need to exist to eliminate the problem. (...) I've never developed a game from scratch, (...). I've been playing strategy games for over twenty-five years and 4X games almost exclusively for nearly twenty, so I have a few insig

I don't know the innards of the system either, but I like the surrendering thing a lot. AI's surrender only when they're in really bad shape in my experience. A human player would probably do exactly the same just to spite you (or surrender to you if they don't feel like pissing you off). Who they surrender to seems a bit weird at times, but the ai always gives an explanation, like 'I surrender to the *** because they look like the most able to beat you'. There are several explanations, so there
Black_Shade, it sounds like AP needs to make an AUTOSAVE at the start of turn one for every scenario in the campaign. That would allow players who miss doing this the chance to to reload that scenario if they quit for dinner/have a power outage/want to replay a scenario. Sounds like a good idea to you?
No it wouldn't cut it at all. The point is to restart a mission from scratch, including the choice of picks. For instance let's say you start mission 3 with +60 diploma

Some more comments. It's possible to advance past one step in a campaign by simply resigning the game. Juts leave and you can continue the campaign. I'm not sure whether it's a bug, a spec, or a workaround to circumvent a design flaw. I still have to understand how I can restart a mission which I have failed. If that's possible (it should), it's not clear to me how it can be done. I can restart from the start, but not just one mission?

I think the difficulty scale is broken. In team scenarios or scenarios where you're supposed to ally with the Altarians, if you pick obscene/sucicidal difficulty, you shouldn't end up with incredible altarians and incredible Korx. You can just sit and watch the Altarians murder the Korx because they have more stars (give the stars to the Altarians if needed). A suicidal difficulty should have incredible opponents and dumb allies. Also the 'team' option makes the ai look very very ar
