Since Apolyton is dormant in Galciv already, why don't you join the Fellowship, we would love the add the wisdom of another Maso player to our ranks. You can always rejoin them if Apolyton decides to restart
Well, not really. I do feel at home on poly. Admittedly, the most active thread over there is "why did you put galciv aside", but well, that's where the forum for developping my game is so I'll stick with Apolyton. I expect the Xpack to bring more life to the players.

As for me: (all quite close to each other) Arcean Drengin Altarian (far below) Torian (even further below) Yor It should be noted that Drengins are more efficient on smaller maps IMO. On big maps, Altarians are better. On really big maps, Torians manage to become a power worth watching, but their utter inability to land the adequate number of troops on your planets makes them laughable. Yor will have been destroyed or surrendered to someone else since
I understand that, LDICesare, but the stage where deterrance is needed most is also the stage where early ships can't really benefit by +30 isn't it?
I am not sure if you get the bonus immediately (didn't check), but if your survey ship(s) uncovers +4% to weapons, you'll boost your 3 attack into 4, and that can be done early. So +30% weapons + survey ship + a bit of luck (but not really much) = +34%.
I do that all the time and sometimes I get the message "I better deal with you before you deal with me". Does that mean they have detected my staging?
I don't think so. I once got that message when I was just trying to have a military that might prevent the Altarians from attacking me. After investigation, I realized that if I built a military they'd attack. If I didn't, they wouldn't. It wasn't a question of ships being here or there. It was just the nasty aliens wanting
The Yor (Neutral) just curled up and died (didn't seem to do anything)
Nothing weird here. :p
Or maybe he edited all other events out. That would have been even simpler.
You still provided no clue of what you call cheating. At intelligent, the ai doesn't get bonuses, and units don't pop out of nowhere as they did in civ f.e. That the game is limited or bogus is a point, that the ai cheats is another. If you lump them together, you will be called a troll.
I don't get attacks from planting culture bombs in an enemy sector as long as I have a strong military rating, which I currently do.
Even if the ai doesn't declare war because of your military, they may very well decide to destabilize you. But if you can afford it, do plant starbases near their stars. My preferred tactic for cultural conquest is to start from the opponents' nearest star, build culture starbases in a nearby sector (preferably one that is also adjacent
I settled class 9 planets in late game to flip PQ 52 nearby. I think that colonizing planets is important because it can provide alignment shifts. You may also get lucky with worms or such on a PQ13, or exert extra influence in a given sector.
citahellion, you're right, but the ai knows that and will declare war if you plant a culture bomb in one of its star's sectors. NutButter, you can check the current influence in the sector (small icon in the top right of the big map view). Since stars provide influence, and distance matters, it is better to start flipping the systems nearest your own. You know when a system is going to flip if it's got a skull on it, and if the sector is under your influence by a big value (>100, prefera
Tech victory has been killed for the metaverse because it used to reap huge points through milking after letting a major spend their miserable life on a class 1 planet you had settled for them. Many of us said there shouldn't be modifiers for type of victory. About getting allied: Quit trading with your current ally and redirect all trade routes to the remaining civ, wait a bit and make big gifts.
vincible, I used a grovelling strategy (give techs, give all money when extorted, trade techs for techs, trade goods for techs, tehn techs for techs) and managed a victory on a medium map. I must confess that until I managed to lock all of the ai's into war one against the other, I wasn't very proud... I noted that all minors except the two who appeared first (maybe all those who appear initially on larger maps) would happily give me all their money for my trade goods before I conquered thei
(cross-posted from the XP suggestions thread) I feel that the ai always researches the same things, so it gets boring after a while. I'd like it better if there were several ai research paths that could be selected or randomized: You'd have for example standard arcean (use the current tech list), randomized or customized (one of several tech paths available). Non standard ai's would probably be easier so you'd have to metaverse them out, but new ai tech paths would allow modders to add n
I have a request for the ai: I feel that the ai always researches the same things, so it gets boring after a while. To the initial point, the ai is thusly coded (some predefined lists), that it is impossible to change the tech tree. There is no modding it.
vincible, nice AAR. The starting conditions were awesome; and that +5% PQ in a pol party is unbalanced IMO. As far as I understand, the trick is to find out which techs are not researched by the ai, and use this monopoly to your advantage, bypassing military techs which are expensive and almost untradeable for. This looks like a good usage of the fact that all the ai's research more or less the same things.
Just make a poll on a webpage of yours and link to it then.
If the ai can't handle it, don't do it. And ship design lends itself to abuse easily. I think it wouldn't offer much, since there aren't many special abilities.
yes, I'm talking to the 6 of you
That many???
Random AI alignment and difficulty, but make it a tough game rather than normal. I'd rather avoid the Incredible ai as with even one incredible, all players unable to beat maso will vastly suffer. A medium or large map?
Weapons+30 is great for boosting your perceived military strength while having poor ships in reality, which is quite useful on maso.
I did this too, on Crippling, just to end the game faster because it was obvious I had won at this point.
I never had crashes on 1.05, although I did get many in 1.0, but never since 1.02 as far as I remember. You can always backup 1.03 somewhere, particularly since the full download for 1.05 is available, you can install it to a different path than 1.03 if you like.
Also, evil gets worse events than good. I once set up a galaxy of 5 evil races (and was evil too). Then the Fundies stroke. This led to a third of the planets of the galaxy going to the fundies (mostly mine and some of the Drengin, who was the most powerful before this event). Being good protects you from Fundamentalists taking your main planets.
I got tired of +1speed (usually don't paly big maps so +2 is overkill) and played with 5 points in diplo and research. Makes for more peaceful games. I also like +trade a lot, as you can't get it easily otherwise. + trade routes is also interesting on tiny maps.
