There definitely isn't enough of a trade penalty. Evil civs should be very reluctant to trade their evil techs to good civs and vice versa. They should also be willing to pay through the nose for techs of the opposite alignment ;)

If you take the diplo advantage and get diplomatic translaters then gifting 1 influence every once in a while will prevent any ai from getting mad at you. Sometimes you don't even need the diplo translators if you can keep up in tech.

Care to give us a quick rundown on how you get all the aliens into an alliance? 1 influence every 3 turns? I find it takes me quite some time just to get through the colonization phase in gigantic games. Haven't played too many of em though, working my way up :)

1) As Pontius said, some way to more easily eliminate unwanted colony improvements. 2) The ability to move waypoints so you don't have to go through each planet manually if you want them to all send ships to a new destination. 3) I haven't abused trade stacking much but influence stacking is currently insane on SB's. I can take over an entire galaxy by building 4 party palace terror stars and just moving them from sector to sector. 4) Fix the 1 influence per turn make

Current Game: Small Map 512.9 Billion People 20 SB's I control all but one sector in year 2192 Influence is bugged right now isn't it? For example in my home sector I have 4 planets and 6 starbases. Base Influence: 128 6 SB's with: 1 at 103% Influence Increase 1 at 243 4 at 343 Total: 1718% By my calculation I should have 2371 influence plus additives from my other sectors. My current infl

As ray said I'm not condemning the use of cheese just wondering if the top players are beating maso without the use of the "cheesiest" cheese :)
I'm almost always ahead of the AI in tech somewhere in the 2190s. I attribute that to AIs wasting money on military wherelse I spend them on research.
Can you do this on small maps ray? I always find that if I focus solely on research and a little social after the colonization phase I can catch up to the leaing tech ai

As Ray said I'm not condemning cheese I'm just wondering if the very best gal civ players out there can win without using it extensively. As technician said with the bonuses the ais get at the start in maso if they played the perfect game the humans would always come in fifth so they have to have weaknesses. Ray, when you say you are almost always ahead of the ais in tech by the 2190s do you mean you can do this on small and tiny maps as well or do you pretty much stick to gigantic map
I'd guess that I probably have already played a few games where I haven't used any those cheeses, except perhaps in the mop-up phase. Do you want me to maybe write up an AAR?
An AAR would be sweet :) I find that I can keep up with the AI's in tech and influence without any cheese but as soon as I start building a military I fall behind in tech to a very large degree. If I don't build a military then I have to use the 1 influence trick to keep from being steamrolled. I
Gifting 1 influence point can sometimes improve relations (this is the biggest cheese out there imo, though it seems that most people don't use it)
Forgot about this one. Yes that's a major cheese and I will admit I use it when I'm threatened. If you give the ai 1 influence instead of what they demand they seem to be happy.
Buying enemy starbases with cash, especially influence resource starbases. On a large map you can buy up all the influence

Just wondering if anyone has beat maso at any size without using ANY major cheese tactics? In my mind there are 3 major exploits out there right now. 1) Using more than one influence SB per sector. This is the big one. 2) Alpha strikes which prevent an ai from ever using most of its military especially terror star alpha strikes 3) Taking over resources by selling ships parked by the resource to an ai at war with the ai that has the resource. I don't

Eradicus: Thanks for the info. I was already aware that influence affects sectors adjacent to the one you are in and moves on from there. However, I'm fairly sure that right now starbases are bugged in such a way as to give you more influence than you should get. Many people have posted about influence starbases multiplying by each other instead of adding as they should. For example if you have 2 SB's which give 100%influence I think you end up with your influence times 4 instead of times 2
Those constructors building the terror stars get turned into party palaces sooner, and ya win the game sooner.
True but we already know (at least i think we do) that influence is currently bugged in that it multiplies instead of adding so in my games I've been restricting myself to only one culture star base per sector. No one has really mentioned pure terror stars before.
I think both terror stars and influence are overpowered.
<b

I won a maso game on a small map in a very simple way. As long as you find some way to survive until you can create terror stars you are unstoppable. Simple position 5 constructors next to each enemy star system of the ai you are targetting. Turn off all spending until you have enough money to make all the terror stars you need (for example 30k for 6 stars). Make the terror stars. Wait one turn. Blow up all the stars. It's the equivalent of an alpha strike but it doesn't matter if the ai
