I have found the best way to stop Minor civs and Majors as well from building trade goods is by good old fashion tech whoring. Almost every game I play (difficulty level: challening)I am able to build all the trade goods without any competition because all of the other races are offering me tribute every turn for tech. My experience has shown that if the other races are paying me tribute they do not have funds for research or to build wonders/trade goods. The downside is they do not have muc

I usually play on huge maps so minor civs can take over several systems. I am not sure but I do not think they play along the same rules as the major races. the biggest problem I see is that it upsets the balance of power amongst the major races by eliminating habitable planets. Does anyone know if this is going to be changed?
Does anyone know how many habitable planets there are for each option? Does "common" mean 50%? Is it a function of the map size? Does difficulty level effect the number of habitable planets? (I don't think it does). I would like to know because I have abandoned many a game because I have colonized so many more planets than tthe computer oppenets that winning is inevitable. If I knew that with "Common" that out of the 60 star systems on the map only 20 of them are habitable I could try to a
I see that with the latest update that minor civs now will expand beyond their home system. I think this can totally ruin the balance of play (Has this been discussed already?). The last couple of games I observed a minor civ colonize a planet 2 sectors from its home system. The planet had a PQ of 15. Once the minor civ colonized it it jumped up to 20!!! Do minor civs get random events? I think that Minor civs have become to powerfull. They have the ability to see all the habitable star systems
I haven't seen much written about selling techs as part of anybodys strategy. The selling of thechs is a central part of my gameplay. I notice whenever I meet a new race I am always behind in tech, but can always sell them something. I always go for 10 or 20 credits for x turns. With all 7 races and the minor races, this "tribute" income sometimes equals 1/2 of my gross. The one thing I have noticed is once I start selling techs to the other races they seem to stop researching. they have no tec
Several options are given for a ground invasion. Most of which will reduce the planet quality and destroy improvements. But how do I know the extent of improvements on a planet prior to invasion. I recently invaded a Dregin Planet and chose the traditional method, hoping to preserve the infrastructure. It turns out once I get the planet there was no improvements built. How come we cant see what is on an enemy planet. I had a high level of espionage on the Dregin at the time. I would think if I h
Help. How do I know how many turns is it going to take for my ship to reach a star or other auto pilot destination. Do I have to just count the squares or is this information listed somewhere. I keep losing planets to other races because I am arrivng one month to late this is very frustrating. How about during war. Is there any way to know how long it will take for my ships to reach a sector or star? I think I am missing something here. :notsure: ~SDC~
