UCLA Vince - hey, if the AI does that, how will I expand into their areas? :) (BTW, per the subject, I have to agree with Stellar Cartography - except that you can give it to alien races to make nice. I do like the concept of techs that give you different abilities, but this just isn't effective because of the reasons given above.)

I checked the options and it certainly seems like the forums on Stardock Central should update regularly - but they don't seem to. I gave up on using SDC except to look for GC patches (not very good advertising for SD, I'm afraid).
Do the purple stars show up on the big map (top right corner) as stars - are they visible? I haven't seen one yet but sometimes I've seen ships move around seemingly blank spots for no reason. I usually play in a fairly well lit room; should I be looking closer?
I have to laugh - I haven't seen the red one yet. The good interface is white (of course!). And if it makes you feel any better, Bluewulf, I think I'd been playing for a week before I figured out why that was happening. :)
You know, just because it says you can get TO any point in the galaxy instantaneously, doesn't mean you can start FROM anywhere.... You just have to start within your ship's range of the target, and voila! - you can get there instantaneously. ;)
OK, I suppose to be an effective recruiting tool, I should include the link - go here to see the empire! http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp?id=246 This empire is intended for people who: a - like sci fi classics like "Ender's Game" and "Armor", b - want to be part of a larger group, but c - don't have any particular ties to any of the major empires, and d - don't want to join one of the biggies like Apolyton since they're already doing well, so wha
As a tribute to the Orson Scott Card "Ender's Game" series of books, I've created the "Battle School" empire. (It was that or "Dragon Army".) Unlike the original, there are no strict entrance requirements (age or otherwise!) and there will be no tests.... all are welcome. See you at the final frontier!
Hey - good idea!
I'm also not at the boredom point yet, but I tend to agree with the sentiments here. I think the "problem" is that almost everything in the game is evolutionary, not revolutionary. Very rarely do you get something new that changes the way you play; you usually just get things that are bigger, better, or more. One of the more exciting things I've found is when a race suddenly stumbles on one of those crystals or whatever that may wake something evil (that I understand is a BAD THING).
OK, I'll ask the silly question: how do you put the ship on auto-survey? I don't remember ever seeing that key or option. (I wish I'd heard about this sooner!)
A lot of people seem to be quoting lines from an update log or something; how do you see what the patch addresses? I don't see a history file or anything in the game directory.... TIA.
I agree the AI gives in much too quickly to blackmail; I tell the evil empires to pound sand every time they demand something of me. (If I'm worried about them, I'll offer them something of my own choosing.) On the other hand, this behaviour does kind of mesh with a "peace at any price" attitude: war is so horrible, we should do anything to avoid it - because of course the bad peoples would never turn our gifts against us, would they? This is common in "terrans" and might be more so a
I replicated the InfoWar problem (two posts above) in another game - it seems to happen consistently. I attacked with 3.99B marines against 25.44B people, with 10-4 estimated odds. I used the info war option and ended up with 8.44B vs. 20.99B at 14-4 odds; I won with 2.44B people left over. However, on leaving the invasion screen, the system reported 4294965.29B people; there were two inhabited worlds, each showing 214748 people. (On a separate try with a one planet system the system
Bug when using the info warfare invasion option, version 1.02.049: I invaded a Drengin world with 5B marines; there were about 20B people on it. My attack ratio was something like 22:7 and I had the cash, so I paid (2200?) for the info warfare option and got 2B people to rise up and fight their oppressors with the marines. I won with roughly 1.1B people left. BUT... when I left the invasion screen, the system showed some kind of overflow for the population - several thousand
I agree, though I would say the queuing would be nice-to-have while the making the details available is a must-have. I'd also suggest it would be great to have... 4. GC "remember" different governors' lists from game to game so that once you get sets you like, you can keep them. Right now you have to rebuild them every time from the available projects, so I never use more than one of the four available - too much clicking! ~SDC~
