Hey there, Ray! Long time no see around here. Too much has been going on, I do admit. Looks like most everybody has been waiting to pronounce GROSS dead and me and the boss ain't quite calling it a day yet! :HOT: The Meta has been shaking up a storm while you were away. Maybe Agent Ray did somehow control the Meta through the Geektrix. Hmm. It is almost enough to make this old pirate superstitious...

Well, I'll be! A real culture bomber ye be, Spikeman. Right after me own heart. Even though my fellows in GROSS tend to be a violent, hard-fightin' bunch, we do have room for someone with a more refined touch who can squeeze every drop of profit out of the aliens. If we can't steal it, make them buy from us instead. :HOT:
OK, who is Bill the cat???
Back then in the 80's, a very few Americans thought there was no choice but to write in Bill the Cat on the presidential ballot. Now, in the 21st century, I am beginning to think that this cat is a viable candidate compared to who is running now. Please, spare me from an overly long primary season. :sniff!: *Gerakken hides from the ever-earlier groupings of political party primaries.*

Gerakken comes in fast for a thread crash and sees the empire logo. Ack! It IS the Mullet Republic. Damage ensues, but the Spymaster somehow survives, much like the reconstituted ANZACs! :SURPRISED: Well, glad to see a fighting spirit carrying on here. Good luck and show us what you got. :CONGRAT: [Message Edited]

Hmm. Sounds more like you found corvettes. No chance against battleships. Fundies are an interesting event. They can own a game, as you have obviously found out. The most likely planets to flip are ones from evil empires, but neutrals and lower morale planets will also follow. The trick with dealing with a hostile Fundie is a strong offense. Get some frigates or battleships and make sure you are always on the attack. Offensive warships of similar caliber die when caught on the defensive. Guerill

An overly simplistic primer here: spending rate is king. The economy in Galciv is much better at deficit spending than at taxation, much like the real economies of Earth today. Counting only planetary taxation (no trade, no tribute), population and PQ play a large part in determining income. An advanced government type, advanced technology giving +econ bonuses, and econ resource starbases generate more tax income, but also increase the spending caps as well. There will very likely not be any "pe
Nope. Hate alliances. Always seem to get dragged into a war when I don't want it.

Of course, deliberate culture flipping is new for me. Usually, I do it the old-fashioned way; bring a couple of Dreadnoughts and a ton of combat transports.
On alliances, I definitely agree. I will make them on the last few turns of the game when I am sure they will not get me into too much trouble. If I am going to war, it will at least be my war and not some mandato

The Book of GROSS, page 125: After a massive battle against alien and human empires alike, the Doom is now in orbit around Skowbo, attempting to make repairs after heavy damage. Though the brave captain and one loyal command officer have surely survived, the search for other survivors continues and confusion is the norm. The independent raider fleet know as the Posse scattered during the epic battle, but their actions distracted the enemies and bought time for all parties involved to regroup in

The I-League can really clean house if they are allowed to flourish. I have not seen an I-League form in a while now (Gerakken playing less often on smaller maps), but when they did form in the past, they sometimes gave my empire a run for the money. Oh, I also had a couple of Fundie empires who could wipe the floor with me as well. Both situations made for fun games.
it explains that ships "lock" their targets and follow them even into fog of war
Yes, I believe that is correct. Once one of your ships fall into their sensor range, it can be chased to the edge of the galaxy and back again. This can be used to certain advantages if the player has even a slight speed advantage and some patience, though. "Why, lookie here! The Drengin are at war with me and hate the Altarians as well. There happens to be an Altarian starbase nearby. Let's

I respect you a lot, Blue, but it still looks like you let two chronic mercenaries run it all into the ground. The real reasons may well be different. It just looks bad. I just have to ask, which is bigger: the mercenary with the high score or the idea of the team? No one should be bigger than the team. [Message Edited]
Hmm. I think that would require someone with access to the database of scores so they could do the calculation directly from the raw data.
Someone already has the means, but have not programmed the rules yet. If the MWC stat crunchers can gather every game the top 25 empires ever submitted with an automated script, then a parallel program with a slightly different set of rules could only add up the 1.10 and later games. So beg of them and it may happen.

Oh, it is fun doing theme games. I have done the all evil alien thing a couple of times and it was fun. Once I finished it by ruthless conquest, the other time by a totally bloodless, saintly game of culture flips. No ships destroyed, no invasions, no bribes paid.

Amazing. The empire everyone thought was dead says "fight on" and an empire that looked pretty solid folded. Did a couple of mercenaries switching empires for the umpteenth time do that much damage? Well, if you are going to quit so easy, then one might consider taking inspiration from the hard-headed pirates who still have not said uncle yet!

Things are still in limbo over here, Wild One. I told the boss through e-mail what I thought of our options. Just waiting on some sort of announcement in public or private. Maybe there is something going on behind the scenes I do not know about, though. Looks like I might still be pulling sentry duty for the meantime.
A billion here, a billion there...pretty soon you're talking about REAL atrocity!
Yes, I did find it quite enjoyable two games ago to take out 41 billion Torians in one landing. :)
Oddly, as soon as they adopt your culture, they mystically transmogrify into humans too
That one is a little more mysterious, yes. But as long as they are loyal, I don't really care what they look like. The way I justify that is I have people to take care of an

Since a lot of interesting stories seem to be coming to Skowbo, I think I will throw out a bone here to give all those imaginitive story writers out there something extra to work with. My muse has not been too helpful in the last few weeks, so I do not know if I can work with this except in bits and pieces at odd times. Rather than try to make something ongoing out of this, I will leave it in the public domain. Feel free to take this and run with it. The Knights of Skowbo <br

Marquesa, the evil librarian with a double life. I can see some nice lady at the desk getting asked about references regarding torture and the Inquisistion. "I can recommend several fine titles, or we can just go down to the basement and you can watch some methods in action. I got several detainees in the dungeon cells paying for their late book returns in unsual ways."
Please note that we have changed our form of government to better accommodate our dramatic growth.
Funny thing. Notice that empires adopting a republic format seem to start rising on the charts? (Refering to ANZAC and Jedi hijinks specifically.) Shrewd move, for an enlightened monarch now in disguise. ;)
