Build the battleaxes, yes, but realize that they are a last ditch defense once everyone gets frigates and better. Get good, current intelligence of the space surrounding your planets with spy ships and Eyes of the Universe, then go on the offensive. If the alien gets too close, hit them with a force that is offensive in nature rather than only a defensive garrison. If the space around that planet is too dangerous to hold, pull out all the ships from the planet and wage a hit-and-run war on any t

Ar! It has been a long night of grueling hand-to-hand combat over the #3 spot. GROSS is ahead, but not by much. Hopefully, we can soon raise the Jolly Roger and really strike fear in the other empires. Or maybe just tick them off so much that it distracts them... ;)
It's late at night, but this is troubling. Some players don't feel they are being heard, but the Galciv people don't feel that all they do is ever enough to satisfy the masses. This is obviously a bad impass. The outcome of such a situation in the worst case is that the dev team will stop listening and the players will basically stop asking. That will be the death of our little community. So, while I do not have the answers, I do have some observations. One, the players must concede tha
Well, the way I see it is that if I am going to choose Mitrosoft and pay something like 10 BC per month for 801 months, then that is a bargain right now. Sure, overall cost wise it will be more expensive than to buy it outright, but I can constantyl grow my economy to offset the long term overpayment easily. Finishing a game in 66 or so years seems easy enough to do for me. And that dangling payment (that is effectively "in perpetuity") does not count against me in the end. So I would personally
Pontius, we need that flag. Beg, borrow, bribe, whatever need be. You know which one. ;) Afterall, when the sun rises, we must hoist our true colors and overtake those crafty ANZAC folks. Ramming speed! Boarders, to stations! :d (And Gerakken back to his game to get it finished, darn it.)
Yep, I am doing it the long way because I just don't think in equations too well, so I got to keep the plan simple in my head. My weapon of choice is words, not figures!
Avast, ye mateys! The Reaper came and yer about to be boarded and plundered by GROSS. Say yer prayers and get ta running. If ye can stay ahead till nightfall, ye might escape us until the dawn shows us yer colors again! Arrr! ;) (I gotta take the two flashlights and the bandana off my head. What the heck am I doing here?)
Ya, don't mind us madmen, Ray. Besides, I did have fun raiding the other guy's threads today to warn them that the Reaper was coming. Well, the Reaper came alright! But I will give some small advice: the scores shouldn't matter much when recruiting. Even a lackluster finisher like myself is worth ten times my weight when it comes to waging the almighty empire's war of words! :HOT: Don't mess with GROSS, or the newly installed Super Space Distortion Cannon (SSDC, for short) will cook y
Nice. Make the I-League work for you! Always good.
Bah, if the boss is stooping to that, then I'll call Pontius on it myself. The way I see it, if you are going to raid the other guy's thread, at least do it yourself. I do! Consider yourself raided, worthy Old World opponents.
Your score is right, boston. Sum of all scores = 1494. Divided by 7 (the number of games) to get the average, which is 213.43. 213.43 times the square root of 7 (2.65) = 564.68 which rounds to 565.
OK, boss. Emergency power it is. Sorry I am a bit late, had to borrow the transporters to raid the enemy a bit. Er, what's that? About the bandana and two flashlights I am wearing? Uh, never mind that. I'll be back in regulation uniform in no time at all. Anyway, when I get the chance I will try to revive my old game. Until then, don't fear the Score Reaper. Let the other empires who haven't felt the full effect fear the Reaper instead. When their heavyweights fall, the ground will shak
The Score Reaper comes for you all... eventually. Doom, doom! (Gerakken bonks himself out of his manic state.) Uh, sorry about that. I just wonder how many of the former top scoring glory hounds are going to withold games just so that the total score will not be automatically recalculated? 'Tis a long fall, but we all gotta jump some time. By the way, the exact formula for all of its glory is still the average score of all games times the square root of the number of games. So
Yes, delete Galciv, reinstall a fresh 1.0 copy from CD, then Stardock it. Then there will only be about a 5.2 MB download. That's what did it for me.
Finish those old games under the old version first! While I do not know if this is just my bug or what, none of my 1.03A games load under 1.04! I even reinstalled from CD to get a fresh 1.0 and Stardocked back up to 1.04. No dice. So, I can either call it a loss and start anew, or bust back down with another reinstall back to the old version to finish my other game. Remember, it's not paranoia if the bugs really do bite you!
(Gerakken makes his grand, dramatic entrance into the enemy empire's thread) Quake in fear, most worthy MWC foes. The Score Reaper is coming soon. He is just coming earlier for those who submit games. But, the Reaper will eventually take all of us down. And when the field is level again, you will be back in the same boat as before, behind GROSS! Muwahahaha! (Gerakken comes out of his manic state, and realizes he is in the wrong thread. Time to slip away, not-so-unnoticed.)
Oops. My mistake. Yes, I was thinking stars and not planets. I should have read it more carefully. I have only run into one natural PQ 26 myself.
Have I got a deal for YOU! Slightly used dread, only piloted once on a test drive to its current space readiness testing range near the Drengin border. 500 creds gets you this baby TODAY! Can't afford that? Why, that's not a problem! I happen to be running a special sale this weekend only. Low rate financing available. All you need is 50 creds down and 50 more for 3 months! Can you believe that? I must be insane!! This weekend only. Come on down! Yes, it can work well, but in 1.03A it c
Hey, you highly skilled fellas said there were holes big enough to drive trucks through with trade goods. Seems like someone listened. So that's a good thing, right? ;)
Captain, the aliens have trapped us in a form of inverted tractor beam. They are using a repulsor beam. Spock, I don't care what they are using, find us a weak point! Captain, our phasers and photon torpedoes are useless. The same repulsor technology also powers their shield. Scotty, I need more power! Cap'n, we cannot break free. We're just burnin' the dilithium crsytals out. To be continued, still...
Bah, forcefinity, who should be deliberately seeking to get kicked up to diplomat anyway? The way I see it, if they really wanted one of us current veterans to go on up to diplomat, they would have bestowed the honor on someone by now! Besides, it is best to simply call things as you see them. If the powers-that-be have a spot and they think one of us fits, fine. If not, then not.
It seems more like a player aid than anything else. Purple systems have higher influence, but not necessarily better planets than a normal yellow star. Kinda reminds me of that Roman things about purple being a regal color.
The recalc is good. Although I will take a hit from 1700 to around 470, I am still fine with it. Now we will just have to wait for that routine to come along to update all the totals. Afterall, I wouldn't want too many glory hogs not submitting games just so that they can stay on top forever. The Score Reaper is coming, I hope.
Oh dear. Looks like the ship stalled. We're sitting ducks until everyone else's scores get redone, unless we all get out and push a lot harder. I can't play that fast! Cap'n, she cannot take anymore! I don't care, Scotty! Give me warp 8 now! Warp 7.7... Warp 7.8 (rattle rattle)... Warp 7.9 (heavy shaking and the lights dim)... Cap'n, she's falling apart!!! To be continued...
My vote would be for a confirmation after the fact. That way the double destruct wouldn't happen. The way I see it, that button should be treated like it was a big red flashing button, as in don't touch this thing unless you are serious. In fact, why not make it a big red flashing button?
