We don't need no stinkin' map to show us the path. The way is forward, ho! Besides, some idiot would just hold the map upside-down anyway. ;)

Aye, I use them for transport escorts. My usual mix is 5-10 transports with two battleaxes for defense/garrison duty on the conquered world(s), several offense ships ranging from battlecruisers, frigates, or battleships depending on the exact point of the game I am in, and one BH to be the anchorman and the last ditch hitter if I need to call out another attacker and the other offense ships are out of position from their sorties. A BH will also guard Sol and any other high PQ regional capital.<b
Thanks. Now we can really do some damage. It doesn't matter which empire you are from if the universal translator is shoddy. Time for me to prowl the forum. :HOT:
Diet Evil. Just for the taint of it. :)
Mods in general can be a tricky proposition Metaverse scoring wise. Most of the library mods (if not all by now) should be clean to use. There was once talk of making a "Stardock approved" seal to mark the ones that were properly tested and cleared, but that is on the back burner now. Anyway, the most risk of an anomolous score would come from using any homegrown mods that did not make their way into the library.
What is it to be GROSS? Interesting question. The perplexing riddle that outsiders pursue in order to figure us out is pointless, because we have no real point to make besides the obvious: we exist, we are strong, and we are not going away. So, don your paper hats and sail forth in pointless glory. Perhaps along the way we will actually make a point leading to a new direction in the Galciv experience. And perhaps we will merely be a bunch of misguided fools in paper hats adrift in space. No matt
Ahhhh! RUN! My evil experiment is ruined, I tell you. Ruined! Fundamentalists came along and raised heck. This is the game where everyone is set to evil. The drengin are pure evil (of course) and the other 4 are chaotic evil. Luckily, I was mostly spared from their straight and narrow ways because I was still barely neutral at the time, but fanatical religious carnage is everywhere! The Drengin and Yor were destroyed outright. The Torians were stripped down to their capital, which revol
Heh. The map all depends on who is writing the atlas. ;)
So, we got a figurehead with no head for figures? ;) Sorry, I had to type that. Just feeling a bit impish today. About time for me to put on my paper hat and get out the wooden sword. About time to crack some Altarian skulls. Good hunting, GROSS fellows.
I agree that the point gain or loss for some events seems totally out of whack relative to the cost/benefit, but events only happen so fast. (Barring any colonization cheeses, of course.) Alignment as it is written now is not meant to be like changing socks. This is something one has to live with for a while, even if the neighbors get a bit upset. And even if the powers-that-be allow us to choose a starting alignment later, there could still be a case where the neighborhood is unfriendly, so one
I actually find use for that holdover social production. If I run into a social project dead end on a planet, I simply stick it on harmony generator or something like that and know that later I can change it to something more useful. If the planet runs into a serious morale problem that actually warrants a long term social solution, then it is simply a matter of going back to that unfinished generator and know it will be finished in real short order. So while rolling over the unused poi
My latest evil experiment: making all AI players bright, keeping Drengin pure evil, and making the other 4 all chaotic evil. It is still early game, and the initial land grab is over and everyone is basically digging in and shaking down the weaker neighbors. The result so far? Drengin are in last at the moment while the Altarians are the big dogs. I am second, the Torians are a distant third and the Yor close behind them at 4th. This is not going to say anything definitive yet, but one
Yes, don't press Brad too hard. Save the pressure for those game developer guys who do not listen and do not fix obvious problems. The Galciv team may not directly answer every one of our questions here all the time, but the work they put in on improvements shows. I am not saying to not raise issues. Definitely do that. Just that they probably know a hundred times over what any particular issue is and have to put it on the list somewhere relative to how important it is in the big pictur
Hmm. Axel, I am going to call it as it is here. You practically invited GROSS to bust in on your thread here. Would my leader or one of the other members barged on in anyway? Most likely, but it would have been that person firing the first shot. And it would be up to Pontius to show leadership to reign in anyone who is crossing the line too much (own self included, of course). I am a member of GROSS and that does impair my partiality, but I know where to draw the line. Calling us out in
Tiny maps and no war? Possible, but hard at first. There are not enough planets to go around and even gaining a one system advantage could be a game decider. Trade routes become exceedingly more difficult to maintain without constantly trying to reestablish them because the guy you are trading with is being shot up in his own ongoing wars on a regular basis by ships prowling a small engagement area on a small map. The starfighter/corvette gambit would probably be the best early way to g
Man, that sounds so evil. "Hi, we're from the alien base ship hovering around your solar system. You can either all be blown to bits by our planetary destructo ray, or join us for a wild good time of murder and mayhem. Of course, we will be having the most fun while most of you guys will be our victims, but a select few of you who show enough potential can move on up to be associate tormentors rather than being the victims. Afterall, it is better to be the Devil's right hand than to burn in his
There have been earlier discussions on the board that I can remember about fleet stacking bonuses or not. Brad's answer basically was that there is no intention to allow ships to attack as a group, only one on one. If you drive your three ship stack into another lone ship, you may get the illusion that there are three ships attacking at once, but it is really 3 separate battles being ran back to back.
The homeless ship bug of 1.03A can come from trading ships. The ships lose their identity somehow and it causes the game to crash upon reloading that save. There is no sign of trouble during the game itself, so one does not know if the game gets corrupted by it or not until it is time to play again and it crashes on reload. In my case, there was an earlier save from an hour before the latest one, but the corruption had already ocurred and had hit both files. Not a pretty sight. A guy can't even
Looks like I am going to be late in paying my taxes, boss. My game ran into v1.3A's glorious homeless ship bug. I asked someone to fix the save, but it might be a bit before it is fixed, if it can be at all. So, only thing I can do is keep that old set of saves on the back burner and start a new game. To think, I was only one planet from winning that one, too! Those the breaks.
I thought that those rules had already been made. The minor races do not have permanent seats on the UN Security Council! Maybe it is time to rethink the rules of a body created in the political climate during the reconstruction after WWII...
My experience is that at intelligent level is where the AI will definitely catch on to culture tricks in their sectors. The test bed was a couple of games where I put 4 AIs on normal and one on intelligent. Another game I tried 3 normals and 2 brights. The intelligent one noticed my culture bases in their sector as a threat 100% of the time and were willing to war even from a clearly disadvantageous position over it. The normals never caught on and where given the old culture judo flip with my n
Yep, I make whole empires cave by flips and surrenders while having only a very small amount of warfare. Just that the Drengin capital is always hardest to flip in my experience. I am finishing a game now where I disabled culture victory. There is only two minor civ planets left and the Drengin throne. It is already failing saves. Might take a couple of game years, but it will flip. To think, I would have won ages ago with my usual culture victory (every sector is blue) if I had not disabled it,
Well, I tend to find that battleships pretty much level the defense playing field unless some nice defense bonuses are on the defender's side. Don't even need dreads most of the time, the BBs can clean house pretty well usually. The battleship age also spells dead starbases. So, defense is only strong to a point. Additionally, since the aliens generally race up the ship development tree to BB as fast as they can, it isn't long before the age of the lone defending battleaxe comes to an end.
To denote that the planets are undefended? To only time I happen to see that is when there is nothing in orbit.
Nice to see that MWC is still going to be good competition. Congrats on the new member(s). That will keep my GROSS team mates and I on our toes.
