Nope, that won't affect them in any way. But, have too much attack power taking any vacations in the sector where their planet is, and the race may start to get mad. If you want to hit them where it hurts without launching an attack, spend money on destabilizing. But, this has to be a long term commitment. Long term destab will sap their economy and force the race to compensate. 50 BC a turn for 100 turns here is better than 100 BC for only 10 turns. At higher intelligence levels, the AI in ques

That can sure catch on, and not in a way that GROSS may not like. What if the regional US factions decided to unite under a single banner? Think about it, some idiot around here could try to make Vox Americanus and attempt to make an empire that would make any Euro/Aussie/Canadian/Anti-alien-in-general cringe. Ow ow ow! LOL

The owner of a local computer/video games shop in my small town is going on over there this year, went last year, too. Long trip for him, about 1200 miles, but he really thinks it is worth it. As for the true, sinister purpose behind the poll? Simple, it is two fold. One, find out how many Galciv players are into the computer industry in some way (or cover it), and two, to let us all know that the big guys are all gone right now "enjoying" their little vacation while we suffer! ;)

It takes me days to finish a large/huge map. But, then again, I only have a limited amount of time I can play each day. My current huge/challenging game is going into its third day, and I do not think I will finish it until the fourth. Ah, how I wish I had the 8 hours plus a day I used to have to play games, like I did when Civ was my second life! ;)

This is more like an apples to oranges thing to me. MOO 3 has a totally different flavor from Galciv. For the record, I think MOO 3 has amazing potential, but some evil marketing people from a big company put a proverbial loaded gun to the heads of the developers and a dog was let out of the pen too early. But, dev issues aside as if both games were made with equal commitment, then there is no way to put these two games on a scale and see which is worth more. It would definitely be choosing to h

Well, my 2 BC on this is that there are those who do play for score, and those who play to play. I do take pride in my meager Metaverse achievements, but I am obviously not milking the system from my games: several alignments, map sizes, and a progressively higher difficulty level (though I think challenging is about as high as I want to tempt the game fates). I do want to submit my games, and I do want a sense of accomplishment, but I do not see the need to play for exploiting score. A

My take on tax rates. Above 50 is bad. 55 or 60 if you are desperate for cash and cannot/will not cut spending. That range will cost you pop growth, and higher than 60 is like inviting people to leave (or revolt if the population cannot adjust itself fast enough). 40% is a good sustainable rate where revenue is fair and population can be kept in check. 35% is about the magic line where BC gained per x taxpayers changes from making decent money on the taxpayers you got to losing money on a horde

Here I was cruising along in my battleship and I noticed that a nearby starbase has opened an Intergalactic Grill. Looks tempting, so I pull into the fly-by window and place my order: one diplocheese burger, large culture fries, and a large Techno Pop. Fast service, too! Hardly took a minute. So, after a nice, tasty, calorie overloaded meal, I cruise on my merry way to finish delivering my payload of culture bombs. Chalk up another win due to overwhelming persuasion (with just a bit of muscle al

Well, harkening back to my Civ days, the motto is: "Get pounded on, get better." Cheating or not is not the real issue, in my opinion. The real issue is whether the player is going to toughen up and get mean or go back down to a level that the player can handle. I advise some strenous workouts. ;)

That must be painful, Frogboy. You guys make such a good game that becomes a sleeper hit, and the regular channels of distribution just do not handle it well outside North America. Well, the publisher may have had no expectation of such success, but it is bad for them to be slow reacting to the demand. Business is business! Perhaps online distribution is going to rule someday, but fighting for shelf space is still the predominant reality in game marketing. Afterall, I am one of those fossils tha

I may be a little bit behind version wise (1.02), but the last I heard there was no penalty for leases and such at the end game. Therefore, there is no advantage to paying off anything early until there is some kind of end game penalty for not paying it off. Now, while I keep leases to a minimum myself, there seems to be folks who won't blink an eye to pay 6 BC per month for 300 odd months (or whatever) to speed buy something really time consuming. I may like the idea of this suggested feature o

Hey, Gypsy, maybe I should join your empire? ;) Nothing against GROSS, but maybe balance, power, and influence outweigh xenophobic evil in general. Besides, GROSS needs competition to conquer anyway. (And I am too lazy to run my own empire, I have to admit!)

I am one of those players who goes for an hour or so at a time then quits, so the reload resets are something I learn to deal with. My experience with the culture win is that there is 3-4 turn wind up to get the influence spread out again. As for the 12 month clock, mine seems to resume where it left off after the power up is complete. If it showed 4 months before the quit, it would show 4 again after the reload and the influence built back up. Unless the aliens find a way during those

Hmm, Gerakken wonders if Bobo is secretly the guy who authorizes the release of some of these more problematic games? On second thought, no, that would be some other chimp. I doubt that Bobo has a secret communications bunker in the cellar. Or I could just stick with my original theory on why big companies sometimes release games that everyone knows were let loose way too early: it's the evil marketing department! LOL

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I will now eat my words of doubt about the Metaverse submission problem not being fixed too promptly with hot sauce. Ow Ow! But, you wonderful guys are still on the hook for the generally primitive and non-intuitive way of how the game handles Metaverse submissions. (As in the need to already be connected and the lack of success or failure messages.) ;)

I am truly grateful for all the building being done on the game, but... As I said in another thread, with folks up high going on holiday, does that mean our little Metaverse problem gets to chill for a week or so as well? Just how in the heck am I supposed to build up any street cred in the meantime? By the way, that expansion pack will rock!

Well, there is a funny thing about this forum that I find pretty interesting. I like the place and all that, I mean I visit a lot, but on my dialup, the bytes sent are usually far lower than my bytes received for normal web browsing. But, right now, I got 1954828 bytes received and 2034721 bytes sent. So, while accessing this forum, a lot of bytes are being sent from my computer than would be for normal browsing. Hmm. :notsure:
