G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

G.R.O.S.S. communication thread.

Cringe in fear do gooders. The G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy alienS) empire is now formed. In less than an hour we have jumped 95 other Pacifist Doo Gooder victim empires and lept into 40th out of 135 ranked.

We are an evil empire bent on controlling everything and showing all the other empires out there who's boss. US. Are you listening Euro-"Oh lets let everyone be a senator and give em a vote doo gooder democracy alliance?" We come for you.

For a limited time, (untill I decide otherwise) 5 Pure Evil games, (or just impressing me with your game evilness) submitted will get you a Senatorship. Later, being the evil empire pyramid scheme we are, it will take 10. Of course, being the evil empire we are, that gives you no benefits, no pay, but all the alien carnage you crave most.

Now we do realize that sometimes, you just have to fake being good. You sometimes just have to infiltrate that pacifist party. We understand. But we aren't a kinder gentler empire and don't let their pacifism go to your head. And just sometimes, you gotta let the Aliens live (where else would you find slaves for the heavy metal lava mines?)

In the future, we shall update each other in the empire via this thread, brag of our conquests, drink blood wine, and generally just poke fun (creatively and humorously) at those players whom we find to be too goody goodyish.

Our mottos.

G.R.O.S.S. Where being good is merely a temporary strategy.

Just win baby.

Here's your ration of skin you do gooder wimp Drengin slime. Now get back to work

EBZeroMatrix you have been made a senator.

I repeat. Cringe in fear, we come for you.

Yes you can load billions of your people onto troop ships and send them off to die and still be "good"!
The homeless ship bug of 1.03A can come from trading ships. The ships lose their identity somehow and it causes the game to crash upon reloading that save. There is no sign of trouble during the game itself, so one does not know if the game gets corrupted by it or not until it is time to play again and it crashes on reload. In my case, there was an earlier save from an hour before the latest one, but the corruption had already ocurred and had hit both files. Not a pretty sight. A guy can't even make an honest buck selling slightly used battleships anymore. Besides pleading to the hard working Galciv staff and volunteers to fix the save file, the only other way to fix the bug right now is to be a Drengin.net member to get the 1.04 beta. That beta, I am told, can automatically fix the bug even in an older 1.03 save.

Hey, when I milk a score, at least I make it a challange
I did milk it on 1.035 the supposed nerfed score
version!
OK I will then, even if my games then crash and I lose my Top 25 position and all of the glory that goes with that...pant, pant.
Good to see your merger went well.
Oh and Staffa, like to see ya do it TWICE.

Actually Chris, I don't consider upgrading at all based on score. I usually let the new version stay out there a week or two and let everyone else get the bugs out. Then I upgrade.

Me: "My apologies to the mighty G.R.O.S.S. senate for my currently low scores"...

Pontius: "well my zero didn't help matters much either. Hopefully I can get that 5200 back or at least get the zero removed."

Heck, I've got a zero in there myself... it was a 1.03.1 game and I *SWEAR* it was over 7,000 points. Okay, so evil people lie. It was over 4,000 though... :notsure:

I was thinking about resubmitting that old game since Frogboy told me the anomalous score thing was fixed... but your story has me holding back a bit. When yours works, Pontius - let me know... I'll resubmit and bring myself up from the G.R.O.S.S. basement. (Though I guess every league has to have its Detroit Tigers... or Cincinnati Bengals... or LA Clippers... or... I just didn't think it'd be me!)

LMAO I'm the Bad News Bears here Sixtoes. I don't think it's fixed but you should at least ask frogboy that that zero be removed since it's a bug and not your doing. I will do the same.

G.R.O.S.S. ers. We have a problem. Well it's not our problem it's someone else's. Seems the Midwestern Confederation's leaders can dish out the smack but cannot take it when they fall behind. They've made several lame allegations against us which we proved lame and false.

And though I wouldn't dare tell you what to do, I would suggest we don't smack talk or respond on any of their threads in the future. Of course topics of General discussion IMO are there for everyone. But their recruiting threads, well it's clear they just can't handle us. We own em. It shows. We get ahead of em and they make sour grapes accusations. Now this is not necessarily indicutive of all in their empire, just the few that did it. Friggin Cry babies.

G.R.O.S.S. is on to bigger and better things. Tis up to you guys what you do. But that's the way I'm going to handle it. I just won't respond unless an accusation is made. If such is made, and I believe it false, I'll prove it such. Other than that though, no response.

That's what I was asking. Is the latest version too buggy to use yet?

Chris: I can't tell you bout 1.35. Seems a few have found some. I've got some in 1.31 too. But there are probably a few in 1.2 as well. And the ones in 1.2 will never be corrected. The ones in 1.35 will. hehe.

I don't know of too many bugs in 1.35 now except the phantom ships problem which was put above.

And you know I'm just teasin bout the 1.2 milking. LOL

Staffa, My Bottom line Conclusion: Midwest (copernicus not part of that to my knowledge) knew about it, talked about it on their site and was going to milk it. You found it, published it for all to read, in the hopes that the scoring will be changed and we won't have to go through hours of tedium for high scores. You illustrate what's right with us, not what is wrong like their sour graper wrote.

Ok I'm taking off the paper hat and going to bed. A fine day here in my game. Torians are done, only a matter of time before I go cultural on em and take their 5 measly planets. They were stuck with after I used my spead advantage to hem em in. Arceans wont be so easy. The out culture me but I'm about to cut a swath right down the middle of their empire. And why not. I have Battleships, they have not. :) That will tip the cultural balance in my favor. We'll make them into Jam for Yor Toast after that.

Good night and cya tomorrow.

Good to have you here, Staffa! I like your analysis of the scoring system. Your latest game also illustrates what should be fixed, as well as it does help the unstoppable rise of our mighty Empire! :D

Well, my Gigantic Crippling game finished up this weekend. I only got 2600 for a Tech win, though, so I must have done something wrong....

I ended up Chaotic Good (sorry!), only because the Drengin were still alive (Draginol) and had researched all the Evil techs.

Did you know that you can only have 10 trade routes, even if you have the tech for 13?

Rangers were my best starship, even though I got Avatar and Excalbiur Tech. The AIs had lots of Avatars... but the "black hole" center of my galaxy kept them far away from me.

Another new item: Can you not culture-flip the I-League? I had a party palace in the world's sector, and one next door, and three colonized systems around the I-League planet. In another sector, I had 2 multi-billion systems *in* the same sector, with 2 part palaces nearby! The Torians took over the world, and it culture flipped to me in 3 turns!

Anyway, I'm going back to low-scoring small games... They seem to be more fun.

The I-league has been given cultural resistance boosters in addition to the normal ones. You'd expect that from worlds that "revolted" from their home league to go independent though. It is nearly impossible to flip em. I tend to invade I-league worlds first as they usually gain me a tech bombing foothold in foreign space. All those complaints about the I-league taking over just haven't happened in my Galaxies. They tend to be my first target though.

Naaah. A win is a win. Just win Baby. I must admit though the tech win appeals to me the least. I'd rather conquer than sit in my corner and hit turn till the tech runs out. But at least they are (or have) changed it to where if the puter gets there first, it's a loss. Bottom line long run if that's what everyone is going to have to do to get high scores, the metaverse portion of this game will die. I'll be one of the first to go too. I just cannot put up with tedium and boredom to achieve high scores.
Guess I have some Klingon in me.

YOu get more points the more galaxy you control and population you run up. See Staffa's post on how he got 23000 points. He says it's boring as heck, and I tend to agree.

I built one Avatar in all my games. By the time that tech comes out, the game is already effectively over. I'm either hitting turn waiting for that last culture flip, or hitting turn waiting for tech. I just don't see much use for them unless you have everything turned off and your only win option is military domination.

The Gigantic one's are fun untill you get about 2/3 done, the end game on them is boring.

The small ones are fun all the way through. Probably because the end game is still in doubt longer. Then once you reach critical mass (the point you know you've got it) it usually chasms over the dam so to speak and you win quickly. I have one that's not quite finished. Was very enjoyable.

It is increasingly hard to balance the difference in size and make the game viable on the funometer across them all. And in my experience, it's precisely the Huge one's that suffer most in TBS strategy games.

Moo2, SMAC, Civ3, all suffer from the critical mass coming too early problem on the larger maps. Galciv does too. But compared to those, far less.

And I've noticed the ai (thats a misnomer, the ai is not intelligent, It's merely the clever series of trigger switch, action algorithms on the part of a clever programmer) in most of these games wimps out more on the bigger Maps too.

I like the vaqriety - the small maps give a far greater sense of immediacy - attacking *this* planet ios a big deal and will change the game.

On the large maps I quite like the sense of scale - it can take 20 turns to get a fleet together within strike distance of the enemy.

Yup I like the sense of scale on the big maps too. You really have to plan for a military attack. And the RR improvement on Civ and stargates on Moo2 never appealed to me. Being able to instantly send units from one end of your empire takes the whole idea of having to prepare a good attack and strategy out of the equation. But there really is a critical mass reached earlier in the game on those biggies at which point it's ok how long till I get it over and get my points.

Ok guys I'm outta here for awhile. Put those Paper Hats on and Conquer your assigned Galaxies!!!! Your emporer, who has absolutely no real power in this empire, is going to work on his assigned Galaxy awhile.

Sorry, I had to type that. Just feeling a bit impish today. About time for me to put on my paper hat and get out the wooden sword. About time to crack some Altarian skulls. Good hunting, GROSS fellows.
