Things like TOR are important. For example, in places such as Saudi Arabia, and China it might be the only way people can actually access real news content. Even in Australia now, and soon to be in the UK they have a government web blocking system. Ever wonder why people get such terrible lag in Australia... Did you see this post of US Army machine gunning 8 innocent journalists, then they machined gunned the ambulance, shot some kids and laughed about it. <a href="htt

Meh. Valid point, but it seems to me most of these 4X games have terrible AI. Civ V is possible worse than this one. Galciv was a fun game, but the AI in that was pretty weak 2. I remember it would never sally forth to trash fleets you put outside a planet, allowing you to just build up a massive force to take the planet. I'm pretty sceptical of AI being published though these python scripts. I had always assumed AI would be hard coded via an object hierarchy in C++. Th
There IS a wealth re-distribution system in the USA. It's called borrowing all currency at interest from a state granted banking cartel. People should be free to choose what currency they want to use, but they are not. Neither should the unborn should not be sold off on the bond market. To make it worse, Taxation takes wealth from mainly the middle class, while exempting the super rich, who can offshore, or even put their wealth into a trust or foundations. Large cor
Actually the Dungeons and Dragons RPG has always had such a combat system. All Players and NPC roll for initiative. A "Round" proceeds through the initiative list form highest to lowest (dex, feats and spells can boost your initiative). If you're a Rogue and gain a flanking bonus, it's often best for the high initiative Rogue to delay his action unit after the slow Fighter has taken his turn and hit a target. The rogue then moves behind the same NPC and gains fla
Dread Lords was great. When I first saw those insane ships I was like...yikes omg...wot am I gonna do! It was a great feeling to eventually get viable if not on par with them and then beat them through various strats. Suicide waves etc:P This was more due to clever campaign desigint than clever AI though.
I've got an update for Twilight, but I'm already into the capmaign. Is it safe to install it? I've have very bad experiences with other games and patches, that make all your old saves not work anymore :-( Thanks.
Please don't say people are dumb or lazy , just because they like consoles or don't build their own PC. I used to build my own PC, but now I value my time a lot more. I ordered a game rig, pre-built for me with components I chose (with the recommendations of the company). Making a good rig is more complex than people think. Cooling is critical Sound insulation Graphics Card/ChipSet/Firmware/Motherboard/BIOS Combinations What hard disks you chose for performance. Noi
Actually it's great news that you will allow EU players to play straight off as long as they can purchase from US site (don't forget to add tha VAT, or sales tax). I can almost guarantee a game will flop in EU if it's not released soon after US version. For example, the Mortal Kombat franchise was PULLED from EU due to poor sales. I'm a big fan of the series, but when the game is released 3-4 months AFTER, the whole "buzz" is gone. It's disheartening reading new/forums about pp
To be honest, all you need to do is trade for some random low level factory which is pretty easy. The fast build allows you to get colonies up fast; just delete the factories after they've done their stuff. Unwillingness to trade wep techs is a balance decision by the devs I think. However, unless you play it at the level above tough (cant rememebr the name), it will still trade you pretty much anything, tough trades weapons as well allbeit at a cost. I think the game would be
I've played a few more games with them. The latest I won. Medium Galaxy, rare planets, normal tech speed. Enemies were random tough. I ended up with Altarians, Iconians, Korath, Arceans and Derengi. If memory servs, I went for moral boost, population boost, Creativity, Luck, and small econ boost. I chose the Federalists for more econ. It makes a Huge difference what planets you find. My first colonly (only 4 squares), had a precusor library 700% research.
I agree they are weird. I've beaten GC2 DA on the hardest setting as Terrans (who are quite strong IMO). I must say I have enjoyed playing the Thalians, due to them being so different, also their back story is kida cool. Having all the high tech stuff...if ONLY they could get enough resources to research it in time. I took a cursory look at their Research Buildings and factories, I must admit, I can't see what Stardock are thinking. Insane high costs for average research, in fa
I found that if I put *one* ship in a fleet that had shields..they *all* seemed to benefit!? Just a cursory look at the combat log, showed all ships having the defence icons...can someone confirm this?
SPEED > All in this game. This is not a whine, I have some constuctive suggestions in here so please if you can take time to read it. On my first skirmish game ever I beat it on challange, now Iin my only second game, I'm wiping floor in Tough. The ship AI is just *not* very smart. It seems to build a lot of sloow, 2 speed ships. With 4 speed, or say 5 with racial, it is so easy to get in first shots its not funny. AI
Although the split, and colour coding is nice and intuitive, as is laser1, 2, 3 as opposed, mass quantem spectro-blah techno babble, it has some serrious issues. For example, say I want a certain mod/improvement for my ships or starbase, here is the game you play. 1. Go to tree view, since letterbox is too small to move around. 2. Guess which tech may have what you want! 3. Select this Tech. This had the side effect of c
Maybe its not possible to write a good Sandbox AI with current software. As soon as a game comes out, you always hear about people that find some lame repetitive tactic to win. The trouble with software is that it can't adapt in reality. I guess we have to have the devs acting as nanny to make it adapt via patches. Still one would have thought that a game with a closed set of rules like, that it would theoreticaly be possible to create a de
A big problem with the game is that the documentation. Esp the in game documentation is realy bad. I don't see why clickable hyper-links were not added in tech tree for example. The info is there in the game, I now use a third party program to get info on the techs. The game is pretty much unplayable without it.
I'm playing the scenario where u decide to concede the seige (first dread lords one). The aim is simply to get Torians to form Alliance with you I now have complete cultural domination, and the Derengi are holed up in the corner surrounded by my Starbases, Ive researched good to become like Torians, but they still wont ally with me. Now the torians Final planet has been assimilated into my culture...there ARE no more torians...even some Dere
Bump. I just don't understand what devs were thinking when they put the tech tree interface in the game. Its *almost* unuseable. For example to find the tech I need to get xyz mod. I have to 1 Go to large view 2 Scan around 3 GUESS which improvement may be in which tech. 4 Since you CANT SEE the inside of the tech in large view. switch back to Tiny view. 5 Read text (to do this MUST click on it)...thereby deselecting what
I keep getting the same problem. I think its when the Torians do something. I think it starts to play a movie, or show a screen but crashes first. They have advanced tech, so maybe its the Tech victory for the Torians. Its driving me mad, coz I don't know the result of all my labours. My crashlog says divide by zero error >:(
