Give them ships when they're at war and you're not. Get Diplomatic Translators. Sell them any other trade goods *except* Diplo Translators. Trade techs every chance you get. Open lots of trade routes with them. ~SDC~

Maybe the Metaverse submission code could check for these conditions. It's anything but obvious how the pieces fit together. ~SDC~
I just changed the key on the metaverse site to be the drengin.net key. I only use the stuff from the stardock downloads, so I can't comment on the other mods. ~SDC~
On the web browser, go to Galciv.com and select the Metaverse tab. Click on "Register your player". That will take you to a panel where you can put in your nickname and the key. If you just have the galciv game, you can use the CD key and it'll work OK. You can find information on purcasing the drengin.net subscription at http://www.stardock.com/products/drengin/ ~SDC~
If you're at Advanced, there's a chance of stealing a tech. I've gotten Drengin techs that way, not as a result of taking over a star system. ~SDC~
I built the Party Palace Terror Star in one game. All the military upgrades too, I must have pumped fifty Constructors into that baby. Flew it into an Altarian sector with a bunch of dreadnoughts and all his planets in the surrounding sectors put up the little pirate flags. So he calls me up on the diplophone and says "I know cultural conquest when I see it" and demands that I give him the thing! I refused, and he started building ships like mad. His Mil graph is climbing, climbing, I k
Just grab them before the other guy. That's all you need to know. ~SDC~
If you registered on the Metaverse site and then bought Drengin.net, that's the problem. Reregister with the Drengin key and it'll find your games. ~SDC~
The Prison is another one. The prisoners riot and escape with three BattleCruisers. It's not so bad once you've got something that can handle that. ~SDC~
I like to research Defense/Deflectors or Weapons/Phasers earlier and build a round of military ships after my fifth or sixth colony ship(somewhere around halfway through the starting bank). Have new colonies work on Constructors so you can switch the production over when the tech comes in. Juggle sliders accordingly. I'd also recommend a pick or two in Diplomacy. That and the Diplo Translators really makes a difference. ~SDC~
An Embassy and a Cultural Exchange center and a few other buildings will increase the Influence of your star system in that sector (and the surroundng sectors, a little). Also, you can build a starbase and put cultural influence modules on it. Eventually, you can build a Party Palace with some ridiculous cumulative effect. Few enemy planets can stand for long with a Party Palace in the same sector unless they counter in kind. Of course, your rival will take note. Destabilizing
They pop out of the Space Zoo if you get that from the UP election. I got three of them. They did clear out a couple of Altarian starbases from that sector. ~SDC~
That message came up several times in my last game but I hadn't even made contact with that race yet. I didn't know it was a setup. ~SDC~
Hey, that was it! It got my last game after all. Cool. ~SDC~
Yeah, I ogg'ed my whole CD collection. :( But there's the blues mp3's from Railroad Tycoon :) ~SDC~
How long does it usually take for a submission to show up? ~SDC~
"The stargates ar ejust lifeless hulks now. The humans took theirs apart to help build the first colony ship." ALL of them? ;) ~SDC~
I just got to the end, dialed up and *then* hit the "done" button. First game to the Mverse. ~SDC~
Yes, I've seen this happen. Also when you conquer a system. ~SDC~
What kind of picks did you give your communists? -5 Econ, +20 Resist ;) ~SDC~
What if you built two starbases with Culture modules in the same sector and then gave one to each of your worst rivals? ~SDC~
Don't give it to them. Sell it for low payments (like 20 bucks/turn). Sell them ships when they're at war (both sides of course, unless one side is the Drengins, they don't need any help). ~SDC~
I'm playing Technologists with picks in Diplo, Trade and Military Production, and I got Diplo Translators and I'm cleaning up on 20 bucks a turn deals. I'm getting about 30-40% profit on ships. I got a special on BattleHammers for anybody at war with the Drengins. :) ~SDC~
No, even though the planet will show that it made them in the Details panel. Just demand it from them a couple turns before your Transports arrive. You won't be able to sell it, but you'll get the benefit. ~SDC~
I'm going to try something I thought of. I don't know if the payout is good yet or not: unless I have some "all planets" upgrade like Planetary Defenses I'm just going to run with Soc = 0 and save up money to buy buildings for oneoffs. Sure, the GMC rapes you for the rush job but it's probably cheaper than wasting the production on all the other planets just to get Earth working on a Harmony Generator. ~SDC~
