With maybe a % deduction to "pay unemployment claims". ~SDC~
Freddybear
"Even when you're not actually building something, you still have to pay your workers, maintenance on your plants and machinery, etc." That doesn't fit with the fact that I can set the social slider to zero and then all the production does go into Military or Research. For the WHOLE empire. Thus choking out the *one* planet that needs social spending. Put me down for either a: automatic transfer of money between Soc and Mil when either is empty, or b: sliders for every planet.
If you build six Colony ships at 60/20/20(mil/soc/res) with 100% spending, then push Research instead of Military you can finish up several techs before you have to cut spending because you used up the $1000 starting bank and you'll have a head start on things like Manufacturing Centers. ~SDC~
Yeah, that stinks. It's *waaay* too expensive in maintenance to keep all your planets working on building something, but you can't focus the resources on just the few planets that need the work, and then there's waste if you don't build anything at all? Stinks. Put the unused dough back in the bank or figure out how to allocate it among the active projects in the selected categories. ~SDC~
Corvettes aren't so bad. They're great for taking it to your enemies while you work on BattleCruisers or Frigates. Just don't sit around trying to *defend* with them. Use them like Cavalry in Civ3. Best thing is they're cheap. Like the man says, two 'vettes give you 20% more attack power than a BC for the same build cost and less maintenance. ~SDC~
"But don't turn your back on them." They turned their backs on me. I've already invaded three systems in two sectors because they sent practically their whole fleet clear across the galaxy to fight the Torians. ~SDC~
At Normal difficulty this was just too easy. The Carinoids had two systems in a sector right next to me. I had sensor drones and scouts all around. Once I had my fleet built up (Corvettes and Transports, a couple of Axes), I checked them out and no thanks, too many Axes for my taste. Just wait and see... Sure enough, the Drengin declare war on them. The C's must not have been looking at my fleet assembling in the sector next to them because they send *all* their combat ships out to atta
It's down again.
They didn't suddenly turn good, they grovel a lot when you're *much* bigger than they are. ~SDC~
Is there a FAQ out there somewhere for how the Metaverse thingy is supposed to work? How to upload, what the symbols mean, which Empires are for what... ~SDC~
I understand from somewhere that if you manage to devote more cash than the manufacturing capacity of a planet it'll basically go to 10 for 1. Giving the Drengins presents when they're strong would probably make them even more likely to threaten you if you don't keep up the goodies. It would me. :) ~SDC~
Neutral, unless I've got an advantage otherwise in the game. Then I go Good. Evil is *very* tempting sometimes but I just don't like the background music. :) ~SDC~
If I had played chess as hard as I play some 4x games I'd be Bobby Fischer. :) The usual tech trading with the AI and standard military tactics seem to apply. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fancy bonus points system. I'm not used to Scouts that can suddenly fight back. The best special tactic I've used so far is to give good defensive ships to the Drengins' weaker enemies. A couple of BattleAxes won't win the war for the Altarians but it'll put a dent in the Drengi
Does destabilization increase the odds of getting the "Lord so-and-so was assassinated while visiting one of your planets" event? Either that or it's related to the fact that I changed alignment from Neutral to Good and our relations were cooling rapidly. ~SDC~
What were your relations with them at the time? And how was your Diplomacy relative to theirs? ~SDC~
Fleabit, that works *great*. Thanks! That's just the kind of hint I was needing to get off the ground. That and "Don't build all the improvements on every planet." ~SDC~
Oh, OK. That's what the big blip on the Influence graph is about, too. It seems to go right back where it was the next turn. ~SDC~
Is that for one turn or a permanent transfer? If it's just for one turn and the UP isn't voting next turn, it's not worth beans. ~SDC~
What exactly am I buying/selling with Influence on the trade screen? ~SDC~
I had just ordered up some BattleAxes. ~SDC~
Once when the Drengin were making threats and showing a *huge* military on the graph, I looked at their fleet on the trade panel: One battle cruiser and about two dozen colony ships. ~SDC~
Those sharks can turn out to be useful: My zoo planet was in the same sector as some Altarians and the space sharks killed their starbase that was on the resource in that sector. Naturally I grabbed it once the sharks were killed off. They ate up almost my whole fleet, that's OK I needed to clear out the deadwood. :) ~SDC~
