Missing the economic picture...help? in Galactic Civilizations I Stardock Forums

Hi, Im used to understanding all the little rules of a game, so this is sort of bugging me and I must be missing it in the manual. Im really confused about taxation and production. (Not looking for formulas, just less vagueness) Okay. So I have a planet that has 1 billion people on it, without any improvements of any type. Are the taxes this planet produces relate only to the population and tax percentage, or is quality of the planet tied in? Now for production. I und
