Oh... another wierd event issue... when I get random events, they always seem to happen on Sol. Example: Plague sweeping universe, mining nearby moon/lava tubes, new religion sweeping galaxy... etc. Some of the events do apply bonuses to my whole civ... I can understand that... but things like the religion or plague take away planet specific attributes (i.e. population).

Has anyone ever recieved a colonization event on the first planet you colonize? It seems like it doesn't ever happen to me, since the 'we are colonizing new worlds' cut-scene plays. Because of this, I try not to land on the 'best' planet first (in case I get a PQ bonus). Anyone else seeing this happen?

I would like to see more color surrounding the events that occur to you during gameplay, especially the colonization events. I'm expanding on a suggestion I made earlier, but if I subjugate a primitive culture as slaves on planet Bilbo, it should trigger other possible events... such as an uprising on planet Bilbo, or Bilbo turning into a new Minor race (the Bilboians?). Or an event where the natives of Bilbo demand equal rights... something to make the universe 'fit together' and 'mak
Since there are pages and pages of suggestions now... I'd be interested in having someone from Stardock compile these proposals, and comment on which ones are feasible or not... which ones they think are the most interesting/possible, etc... which ones they don't think they can implement due to game imbalance. Same goes for the other thread about 1.03 enhancements...
Ohh.. I second Intersteller's idea about home planet of the ships... When I have too many trade routes, its a pain to try and figure out if I want to drop a route and replace it with a route from this freighter's home planet... when I dont know for sure which home planet that was.
As mentioned in another thread... Spending sliders (military, social, research) by governer, such that you can have certain planets 'specialize' Also, I'd like the ability to change the names of the governers :) Is it just me, or am I the only one who wants a governer to be Moff Tarkin.
Not sure how it would work, or if it would be possible... but I'd like to see commercial units flying to & fro in the galaxy. Sure, you have the frieghters, and the little ships that are spawned with trade... but I'm thinking my colonists like to travel and such, they should be moving around the galaxy planet to planet. Expanding on this, I'd like to see cruise ships/shuttles going to/from a starbase. Especially if it has a satellite waterpark, or other festive culture hot spot. This
Very good points are being brought up... neat discussion... I agree that the amount of disadvantages should be limited (say -5 points worth, or something). I'd also like to add that you shouldn't be able to take a disadvantages (e.g. -10% diplomacy) if you already have a similar advantage (be it chosen, or given by your political party). I know many of us have brought up the fact they like to play against "smart" AI. Perhaps a major difference that can be made between the "In
Interesting thought though, RXDOC. What if there was a resource that generated $$$.
Well, coming from a RPG background [GURPS], I was thinking along the same lines as CariElf. I see the choices you can make in 1.02 as 'advantages'. You can't choose the exact number/% of courage you want, you pick a 'package' (i.e. 1 point for +5%, or what have you). Same can go for disadvantages. Likewise, every advantage doesn't have to have a disadvantage.. they could even be different. Although I'd like to see ones like: Cowardly Xenophobic (this may be an a
I'm getting used to the thought of a 50%ish morale is normal. But could there be a button where you could 'ask' your people what they want? (i.e. We are mad, because we don't have entertainment networks! everyone else has them!) Likewise, when morale gets really low, perhaps the planet could petition me saying 'Build these entertainment networks, or we are siding with the Yor!' or something along the lines of 'WE'RE OVERCROWDED!'. Right now I have to guess. Speaking of moral
Good points... Thinking about this after hearing your feedback, I think it would only work if the AI were able to 'see' your weakness (-courage, -soldier) and exploit it.
One more thing... I'd like to trade with.... myself :)
Likewise when my friends are at war, I'd like to say "Here are some ships and some money, go blast those bloddy Yor!" instead of "Here is a gift". I'd like them to know why I gave it... it should mean more diplomatically, IMHO. :)
Something happened to me in last nights game that I think could use a tweak. I was allied with the Drengin, and they were at war with the Yor. I got pulled into the war, because of my alliance. I didn't want war, I wanted to break the alliance... shouldn't I get a chance to break instead of going to war? Likewise, it would be neat if the break or forming of the alliance would be voted by senate. And going to war because of an alliance was voted by senate.
"Perhaps its only a few thousand (the crew) who reproduce at a phenominal rate" lol... Maybe it's just my wicked mind.. but I just pictured 'Emanuelle in Space'
It would be neat to craft coordinated battle plans with my allies. i.e. [on month 1200, lets attack sector 11-5] Or a way to ask for ships they do not have. As in 'we are attacking on 1200, can you try and make some combat transports, I'll bring the battleships!' Then have a method for dividing the spoils of war [planets]. Such that if I take a planet in wartime, after the war is over my alliance members and I make certain we divide equally depending on how much resources we
This gave me a thought. Not only should the ships be considered 'former Torian' and therefore the Torians allow them to leave their airspace... but shouldn't they have the stats as they were for the Torians? [not sure if this happens already, I don't trade ships often]. What I mean is that if the Torians are more advanced [in tech] wouldn't getting Torian BattleAxes be 'better' than regular old Terran BattleAxes? Again, not sure if this already happens... but it should, right?
I'm so glad I didn't get MOO3 with all of the bad press it gets here. Salivating over a space civ sim, I was torn between GalCiv and MOO3. I was a big MOO2 fan... and was leaning towards MOO3. After reading usenet, and seeing Brad's posts, I went with GalCiv. I'm very very happy with it. Thanks Frogboy and folks at SD for such great support, and such a great game!!!!
When creating my new civilization, and choosing my advantages (e.g. more trade routes, courage, etc) it would be interesting if I could choose disadvantages in order to gain more points. If I want to play cowardly (courage -10%) trade masters (+3 trade routes, +10% trade), or xenophobic (-40% diplomacy) scientists (+50% research)... I should be able to :) What do people think?
Listening to this topic gave me an idea. If I am winning the war, it would be neat to be able to ask the aliance be broken as conditions for their surrender. Or to go to the extreme... demand their military spending never exceedes a set limit (% or $ figure).
More comments based on the feedback in the board, which spurred my thoughts... It would be neat if, like Vanir said that espionage and destabilization was tweaked. The 'high' level of espionage description says you most likely know whats going on better than the leaders of the civ! Perhaps you then are privy to all the diplomatic transactions being performed by that group. Instead of seeing 'Yor is most likely paying tribute to Dergin' you would see the amount, the actual trade, etc
I haven't thought about this idea in detail (how it would effect game balance/play) but expanding on my idea of diverse populations (i.e. you may have Yor colonists on your planet, and making them happy may be tougher than making regular old earthlings happy)... What if instead of all of your population being valid 'soldiers' that you had to first 'create' soldiers by placing part of your population in that category (or produce them with a 'barracks' type building. Same goes for e
Lots of great suggestions... here are mine: #1 - I really liked Paul Auger's (Message #31) idea to add a maintenance cost to new colonies such that expansion is 'slowed'. Like Paul, I enjoy the expansion aspect of the game, and would like it prolonged. #2 - Galactic topography (black holes, nebulae). These can be obstacles, or perhaps detriments to living in the sector (black holes can gradually suck away PQ). Or nebulae could be passable, but cause ships to pass through the
