Draginol: Real unemployment is more like 9.5% (remember, those with unemployment claims active are the ones counted). Interest rates are low for housing but the small businessman isn't getting loans at 4.75% (prime) but more like 8 to 10%. Shall we talk about gas prices? How about the loss of buying power of the American dollar which has lost 50% of it's overseas purchasing power versus the Euro under Bush? drmiler:

blogic: I think it is a credit to the politicians but a weakness to the system that the political "season" runs several years through primaries, conventions, and the campaign (proper). Bot men deserve consideration for not taking their talents and staying home (where they would undoubtedly be happier).

drmiler: I think in 31 years (plus the 3 years of courtship (and I don't mean being a judge, hehehe) we have had plenty of debates and discussions. However, we have a rule about debating. We agree to disagree when a decision doesn't have to be made. We agree that the person most effected by the decision has the ultimate control over the decision. It works for us.

drmiler: And Poole as a Fed member wouldn't have any reason to say this, seeing as how important the FOMC is to setting policy, right? Remember, 3 out of 12 correctly predicted the current recession a year after it began! Not a real good indication of what is happening in the future.

Gene Nash: It is interesting what polls are listed. The neocons list polls that favor their side, the liberals that favor their side, the middle wants to talk to each voter in the U.S. Hehehe. The funny part is, most made up their minds a month ago. What is left are the ones who will truly make the decision. As a stock trader, I don't care who wins, I just want to know a week in advance.

drmiler: I have been married for 31 years to the same woman, one daughter, currently 25, married 4 years, an Occupational Therapist. I have never smoked or done drugs, have about 2 beers a year and champagne on New Year's Eve. I sing in the Church Praise Band and do sermons in my Baptist Church once every 6 weeks. My wife and I disagree on many things. Disagreeing is ok. I would never change my position because my wife held a co

Karma Girl: No and my wife and I have the same position. What is flip flopping is saying he supports the President fully and completely, then when his wife says she is not for the amendment, supports state's rights to choose their own laws, then he says he supports that position. Then he adds, of course, I also support the President. That is two faced and Politically Correct.

d3adzOmbie: Cheney's daughter's sexual preference first came up in 2000 in the first election campaign. It wasn't the Democrats who brought it up here. It was the dispute over the DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) and Constitutional Amendment. Lynn Cheney spoke about it when she said that the states and not the federal governmnent should decide. She was asked because Dick Cheney said he "supported the President" on a Constitutional Amendment.

What many people miss, which is, to me, the KEY point is that the terrorists are ECONOMICALLY oriented, not politically. If they destroy the western economy, it puts the Arab world on an equal footing with the U.S. Remember, the U.S. co

Patriot: Actually, Olberman is MSNBC. The same network has both Matthews and Scarborough. He had the first debate Kerry and the second a tie. Just for reference purposes.

Myrrander: I didn't offer my opinion. That is because I want to watch the debate again. This type of debate like the first is something you should watch at least twice so that you don't miss anything. Secondly, it doesn't matter what I, you, or anyone here thought anyway. I have had the feeling for the past month everyone had decided who and why. That doesn't mean I'm not interested but I'm not hearing anyone say "before tonite,

Mitch21: I offered the comments as a reference. I also don't care for the pundits but they do influence opinion. Bush's statement about not saying he thought Bin Laden was not so much a threat is getting a lot of play because he did say that he thought he wasn't much of a threat in the Spring of 2002. Other than that, it was the same ole same ole.

Draginol: CNN's undecided audience had it 10-7 (7 tie) Kerry. This is a link to Olberman's blog. Link He saw it very tilted to Kerry. I have yet to see any pundits call it for Bush.

When I retired a few years ago I thanked God that my interviewing days were over. It's a tough process, one I won't miss.

Shadesofgrey: Well, if it is an essay for a job position I would think that your background experience related to the job would be more valuable. You obviously have a desire to serve. Why? What educational or work related experience that you've had up until now told you this is where you belong, can be worthwhile. I know this story of your youth is important to you. It may indeed be the reason why you are seeking the job. Can y

Draginol: The process is always flawed. Every election I've voted in except Reagan in '80 and '84 when the Dems essentially didn't field a viable candidate was hard to pick. I'm not sure I would even consider the VP Candidates as neither Bush or Kerry is likely to die (of natural causes) during their term. You either have to have a rating system of some type (at least the issues in the election are fairly well spelled ou

Coming soon to Pay-per-view ELECTION SLAM DOWN 2004. Wrestling for the Democrats: John "Swift Boat" Kerry, John "Nascar" Edwards and James "I married a Republican" Carvelle. For the Republicans George "Whooping 'em for God" Bush, Dick "Democrats love Bin Laden" Cheney and Karl "We can't lose with Spin" Rove. 6 men, one title! 6 men, the ultimate prize. And you vote for the winners!!!! Woohoo!

Steven: Great article. George Will has been pushing for privitization of public services for many, many years. The interesting thing is that he sincerely believes that it would help us to have non-public education and in effect, no healthcare system except ones funded privately. Boy would that change America. Of course, I don't hear the neocons calling for a reduction in CORPORATE law suits and CORPORATE lawyers. Just the ones w

pictoratus: Are you referring to Kerry's proposal back in the mid-90's to add 50 cents to the gas tax? That was designed as a way to slow consumption while using the money to rebuild infrastructure (roads and bridges at that time) when economically we were going gangbusters. Now, we have an electrical grid that can be disrupted by wayward pigeons and an interstate system that the last time I took it through 4 states (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio,
