Hmmm. Ever belonged to a club or hobby association? Members provide the content, atmoshpere and do all the administration, yet pay dues to belong and cover the club's expenses. Some members come for the news, some for the company, and some for just the snacks, but everyone pays the same dues. They often sell t-shirts, stickers, hold contests (with entry fees) to boost the coffers. Taken in that context, what's the difference between this site and a hobbyist club? We gather, sha

Well the answer is certainly not attacking Afghanistan. What's the point? Bomb their cities back to the stone age? Uhm, the Soviets already took care of that. Destroy their schools and hospitals? Done already. Destroy their infrastructure? Done. Impoverish the nation? Too late. All bombing them will do is stir the rubble left by previous bombs, and kill more innocents.

I read this in TIME magazine, in reference to the Catholic -vs- Protestant battles in Belfast Ireland: "If we were born where they were born, and taught what they were taught, we would believe, what they believe." This also rings true for any belief system that is not one to which we subscribe. Even within the US and other countries there are fanatical groups that voice their opinions in radical ways. The actions of a few do not disparage any particular nationality or

I agree that two wrongs don't make a right, but I'd certainly expect those responsible to be held accountable in some form. It's altogether too easy to jump to irrational conclusions and make a hasty judgement, so I hope our elected and appointed officials act wisely as well.

In a fit of blatant ass kissing, I'd be pleased to add Brad Wardell (frogboy) to the list. Brad probably has more downloads to his credit than any other skinner around. Brad did many of the first generation WB "classics" and still fires off the occasional pixel blast from time-to-time. Also I think ALL the developers are the true heroes of the skinning scene. Skinning, while challenging in a unique way, is likened to "filling in the blanks". Those blanks created by the talented coders a

For whatever reason, skinning the Mac hasn't attracted the same fervor from deveopers as Windows skinning. An uneducated guess is that the basic OS is fairly resistant to "coloring outside the lines". With the notable exceptions of K-scope and a few Audio players, there is virtually no Mac skinning. No alternative app launchers, no clocks, address books, notepads, utilities, practically nothing. I may be way off here, and anxiously await essvid to set me straight. <img src="http://images.stardoc

I *almost* went to work for them once as a creative director. Tom Santoriello and I had numerous coversations about it. In the end, I'm glad the discussions fizzled. I would have been stuck doing "branded" skins and target ads for their adware browser. Blah. Also I just couldn't get excited about living in Tempe, home of Arizona State University and....dust My biggest fear was them being able to hi

Many software producers offer free content ONLY to their registered users. Nothing new or wrong with this. The big difference is that these softwares cost hundreds and even thousnads of dollars - not 20.00. Stardock provides tons of bandwidth to support "freeloaders". Not exactly fair is it? Some claim that this site is an advertizing expense. That's true to an extent, but when the cost of advertizing a product outstrips the profit, it's not doing anyone but the still 'potential' custom

devast, Please clarify your question. Are you creating a Winamp skin or a DX winamp controller? If you are creating a DX object, you'll need to create a alpha map of the transparent portions.

Hi guyzngals! With all the LS sites vanishing, skinz.org being a graveyard, my crap file maintenance (lack of back-up) and the file on MY OWN site being corrupt... I have "lost" the Techno LS theme that Dmer and I created ages ago under the nickname "Double D Designs". If anyone has the zip in it's original form, please drop me a line. Thanks

BoXXi - I believe all credit cards require some sort of authorization prior to the first use as a safeguard against misdirected mail. You might check the back of the card for a telephone number to call. Of course if you've done all this, then nevermind...
