A trick i always used to do in galciv1 to gain recource starbases was to surround a starbase with constructors then give a ship to an AI race at war with the starbase owner. As long as you had that ship surrounded it would always attack the starbase. That trick dousn't seem to work as well in galciv 2. especially since it is normally quite pointless mining galactic recources. They are usually in strategically inconvinient locations, and building on them

Lol I don't know if I dreamed this, but, I coulda swore in the update readme it said that there was another choice Totalitarian placed in the Political section while creating a race...Think it was like 10 eco and 10 or 20 military and 5 of something else. It ain't showing up in the policial choice section. Then also, I could have swore in an earlier game that they had implemented REQUIRED 3 space spacing between starports so as not to exploit placing starports all over the place and ge
Yup Kyro said it best you can't win with a poor economy so it's always part of any victory anyways.
Expansion expansion expansion, it's all about expansion and early in the game. Take Ion drive right off the bat and build you a movement 5 colony ship and BUY them. Don't wait for them to be built by industry. Travel out as far as you can go and try to get those 10pt planets early. Then worry about the miniscule planets behind you later on when your big productive planets are churning out colony ships in a few turns. You also don't have to stock every colony ship with 500 pleebs. I get by on 200
Yes it's easy to win on the lowest difficulty isn't it?
In 2222 the population of the world in humans will be nill to none. Environmental things will happend to destroy mandkind. Nuclear fallout will destroy 2/3rds of it before that because someone IS GOING TO PRESS THE BUTTON before then. So really 5 billion is farfectched and not realistic. Roaches and Ants will evolve rapidly from the radiation fallout and become the new supreme species on earth. They will a
I like writing negative reviews because there are far too many fanboish reviews. People need to see both sides of the game in light and darkness. Since there is already too much light for them I tend to go to the DARK SIDE. But, if a game is really good and I really can't see any really negative qualities in them then I usually give it good credits. From all the emails I have gotten heh both good and bad I
People play ONE or TWO games and think they know it all how the AI is going to play. Well it ain't that way. When you've played 100 games and they all turn out the same then you have a right to bitch. Until then just because one game became a victory for you doesn't mean "every" game will turn out so well. Each galaxy and each game is different and each outcome can be just as different. So, to OP I suggest you start your 100 game play before bitching anymore.
Lol Yundog is an idiot. When clearly ever poll ever taken has shown Single Player vs computer is 9x more wanted than any MP features. MP features are merely a plus for those that like to play both. But, the I's have it and SINGLE PLAYER vs COMPUTER wins out everytime bud. So, you might as well take your trollish attitude and go play another one of your "kiddie clickfest" games against your other brainless friends. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Wink.gif" border=0 ALIGN="abs
I think what must be weighed about the AI is just how many people CAN beat the AI on anything higher than normal or perhaps tough? That's the most important issue here. If only 2% of the community or people that purchased the game can beat the game above normal or tough then Stardock has done an excellent job with the AI. Of course there's no clear way to get a real stat on what percent of the game sales can beat the game above normal or tough. But, with all the good reviews, the number of sales
I bet he bought a DELL! lol
Lol Frogboy you tell him. You know there's always going to be a "troll" on every forum that doesn't like the game and writes a post of rubbish about the AI like the OP. I myself find the game a wonderful challenge, but, I also start every race "at war" with me. I play it like a Warlords IV game where there are no alliances (for me at least) and I don't get any retinues in this like I do in Warlords IV which has killer AI on the top two levels without monster retinues. This is a great
Brad don't let the miniscule bad posts or email get you down. Remember POSITIVE thinking is successful!! GalCiv II has taken a lot of my life away already. hehe Even before the patches I was enjoying it. Every improvement you make to me is just like more chocolate icing on the cake. You guys are doing a great job and at least you talk to us and let us know what is going on. With that
In Alpha Centauri before a governors election or some UP council vote was coming up you could bribe or entice some of the other AI players to vote your way during the elections or choices. This would be a nice improvement to the UPC in GalCiv II. It's how I eventally won the planetary govenors seat. It should be expensive, but, at least possible to influence some of the other races or they even the human p
Everything sounded good except that 3% population growth rate change. This just makes the games longer and drawn out. And the planetary rush for planets was one of the FUN things about this game. What use is my custom strategy of getting faster colony ships if I am thwarted now by population growth?? Here I would like another "option" like no tech trading etc. etc. I want planet/colony rushing in my games. Give me the 20% bonus or options to
[[There are no TBS games where the AI is all that smart.]] Obviously you haven't played ALL TBS games then because there are sevearl TBS games with AI's that can whip the socks off of you. "War of the Lance" for instance is one of the better games of the 80's with an AI that is downright ruthless and hard to beat. "Spartan" v1.013 has one of the best AI's I've ever played against and another that will whip the socks off of most players on just the "normal" settin
Something I noticed quite early playing this game is that the Data Information Tab on other AI races shows quite a bit of information that I think should require spying to know. For instance I can monitor all races teching up and with this I can either trade or tech up faster in those techs and then when each race is 1-3 turns from finishing the tech I can trade mine to them at some rather hefty income. This has actually been one great way to keep a steady flow of income for me and th
As a human player this is something I would do and even suggest (in diplomacy) to other human players to do to a player I didn't like or was leading in the game. It's human nature to want the person in the lead to LOSE especially if you are losing and/or they have been relentlessly attacking you and taunting you the entire game. It would be quite a LAUGH to then see one other race become 3x more powerful than this one individual (origional poster) haha And of course many would have the attitude
Yup if you don't "buy" colony ships (which are 5speed) and some industries early you are sol bud. Also if you check the AI data tabs you will find they also take out "loans" early in the game, they live in a deficit and plow ahead of you faster than a Texas Jack Rabbit jumps. I myself have no problem staying ahead of nearly all of them every game basically since game one I played. I figured out early the "economics" of the game is the key to success, i
I agree 99.9% with no multiplayer for most games directed at single player gamers. Gawd knows RTW might have been sooo much better if the AI of that game had been worked on more than adding a multiplayer game feature to it. I also look at it this way. I see many that think a game should almost last forever. Well some single player games do, Civilization comes to mind here, Alpha Centauri, Colonization 95 just to name a few that are still great games to this day and mainly because the
The manual states that the computer AI can/will take on many different attitudes toward the player, so while many of your games (don't know how many you've played) may have turn into war games, others have proven that one can play a peaceful game and still win. Are you too good? Perhaps you are a little evil? Perhaps the computer AI just have it in for "you"! hehe In any case, it's pretty clear there are many ways to win, but, some may be more prominent than others. Just k
