You can think of it simply as managing your income and spending: Income: 1) Colonize the good (15+) planets. Anything below will add extra costs. Go for the 13-14 planets when you have PQ improvements. 2) With your building list, be sure to give priority to improvements with PQ or economic bonus. 3) Trade becomes important from mid to end game, especially if you're looking to concentrate on research. It's quite complicated, so I suggest a read through the few posts that are

I haven't had any problems with clashes under 1.04a.062. However, I have not been able to update to any of the newer versions, 1.05.068 or 1.05.069. Each time, as it downloads "battletransport.shi_", it would display an "Invalid chunk data" error, resulting in "Failed (incorrect file size)". My SDC is 1.01a.175 build 16. Any suggestions? This is a follow-up to the above post regarding failure in updating from 1.04a.062. I usually colonize till I achieve, ideally, an advantage over other players in terms of systems. The initial round targets only 15+ planets, but a second round may target 14 and stratigically located 12-13 planets. Yes, I do colonize in mid-end game as colonization could be a good strategic move, to establish a forward base for your military or cultural operations. ~SDC~

Ok, it seems they changed the scoring, and 37k is quite normal. My score for this save game is now 68k, which someone else commented was probably equivalent to around 6k under 1.04.59. The metaverse scores (which still hasn't worked for me) will be very distorted in the coming few days... Roy ~SDC~

I am up to my forth game now. This morning I finished the game and submitted my game score of 4.5k, which is a decent score for me. This evening, I updated to 1.04a62, and loaded up my save game from this morning to try and get a better score. I ended up with alliance victory, and have additional income from tribute. But then the game score came to 37k, which seemed way too high (a bug?) to me. Or is it simply that I shouldn't have used an old save game? :notsure: Roy <B

I am up to my forth game now. This morning I finished the game and submitted my game score of 4.5k, which is my normal sort of score. This evening, I updated to 1.04a62, and I replayed the last part of my game tonight, had alliance victory, plus additional income from tribute. The game score came to 37k, which seemed abnormal (a bug?) to me. I submitted the game score but this one never showed up. Roy ~SDC~ [Message Edited]

I too am on normal. Here is what I have figured out so far. 1) At the start, my goal has always been colonization. So I max out the military slider and rush colony ships. My colony ships double as scouts, that is until they find a suitable planet. 2) At the closing of the first stage (i.e. you have hit competition on all sides), you will find yourself, a) with a smaller population, b) a lesser economy, c) fallen behind in tech, but hopefully d) with more systems than everyone e

I have been able to get to Excalibur in most my games. In my last game, I was on neutral and simply picked it on the research list. If I recall correctly: Cost 3000, HP ~600, Att ~350, Def 80. Will probably take down a Deathstar (Def 68) with ease. :p Btw, in all my games, I was the only one with Deathstars. AI doesn't seem to like them, granted, an adequately defended Deathstar is very expensive (defence modules + escorts). Roy ~SDC~

A few unconfirmed observations: 1) It appears your monthly income also counts, so having a big fleet might lower your score somewhat due to maintenance costs. 2) I have the impression that both alliance and tech victories score quite well. 3) I suspect your ship and soldier loses will count against your score. Hi Guys, I am new to this forum, and have just finished my 3rd game. :D It was on normal difficulty, large map, and won through technology. From my limited experience, it seems when AI manages to become the most powerful race, it behaves in a really quite warmongering manner (the Torians & Altarians both experienced this same phenomenon). It frequently attacks and eliminates the weakest major race, and the minor races, often soon after they appear. AI also breaks peace treaties with gre
