the AIs only get bonuses at the very highest level
They get one advantage at every level - they know which the yellow stars are. Still, if you take +1 speed as a bonus, and set spending to 100% colony ship building, you should be able to expand as fast as most AIs. ~SDC~
I must be doing something wrong , I go for a jack of all trades approach.
Nothing really wrong with that. Any bonus can come in handy in the right situation. Having said that, I like speed and PQ, and diplomacy (though I sometimes turn down the diplomacy if I'm feeling guilty about overexploiting the AIs). I tend not to bother with things like morale and economy which I can get anyway later on by building resource bases, though economy is useful in the early stages before you
when you get a new ship type, you shouldnt be able to have 20 of them the next turn.
Well, that's how it works at the moment. If you were in the middle of building twenty battleships, and you gain the technology for antimatter missiles, you can change all your incomplete battleships into missiles right away. The system for social improvements seems fine as it is - you can stop building one half way through and pick up where you left off later. ~SDC~
when you tell them to attack another race, does that race know it was you who said that, or do you still remain cool with them?
They don't seem to notice or care that you just bribed someone to launch a major war against them. ~SDC~

The last time I tried esponiage, I spent a lot of money for a while, then cut it to zero. Only then did I start getting stolen techs. Never had any luck with destabilising. At Maso, they tend to be at 100% morale all the time. ~SDC~

I bribe them to attack anyone they're trading with. Eventually, they end up doing all their trade with me. At this point, they can't possibly afford to attack me, as their economy would collapse. I also give them free techs occasionally if relations are really bad. And a strong military isn't the only thing that they are afraid of. A really strong economy has a similar effect. ___ Why not join:- an alliance! :SURPRISED: The Fellowship, for example.http://www.galciv.com/m

It is the same kind of game as GalCiv, MOO, Stars!, etc. (A 4X space domination game.) Here's a couple of reviews: http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/launchreview.asp?reviewid=102567 http://www.gamerankings.com/itemrankings/launchreview.asp?reviewid=45297 ~SDC~
I don't know who will take production penalty on a class 26 planet .
I would. I always, always choose good. (I'm trying to earn the prestigious 'white smiley'.) You can always cancel out the penalty later with a +40% factory starbase. ~SDC~
1.) An option to cancel all yyy social developments on all colonies.
Agreed. Or for some future update to GalCiv 1, similar in implementation to the military obsolete option, which I don't use much.
2.) An option to build military project till one more turn till completion, then stop production.
Sounds a bit complicated... How about this as an alternative: We already have the idea you can instantly switch from building a constructor to an ant

Here are the unique 'good' techs: http://webpages.charter.net/trevorpowdrell/goodcivtech.htm Also, being good will make other good races like you more, and being evil will make them hate you. ~SDC~

I have a saved game using 1.20.085 (not the latest, note) which can be used to reproduce the auto-survey-not-working bug. You click on next turn a few times, and a survey ship ignores a particular anomaly. At that point, you can save the game and reload it, and the anomaly disappears. However, if you send the ship to the anomaly manually, it will succesfully survey it. Do you want the zipped save file emailed (with instructions)? ~SDC~

The time estimate for how long a tech is going to take isn't 100% reliable. I believe it used to be that the cost of a tech increased by 3% for each tech you already had. I think this was later reduced, if not removed. ~SDC~

My first game on Maso: Played for a while. Got left way behind, technologically. Got into debt. Threw everything into completing a trade good. Thought I could sell it to my enemies and get back into the game. Was horrified to find they'd only offer me about ten credits for it. Found that the Torians were culturally dominating my planets. Gave up and went back to crippling. How about people's memories of their first GalCiv game of all? I remember I started off by trying to build

I just tried to reproduce the auto-survey bug. I thought I had it, but when I saved it and checked the save game to make sure it was still there, the anomalies that the survey ships were ignoring had all disappeared. ~SDC~
moral: when moral goes into negative values (below 0) it shows moral as 1 not 0 or the negativeDo you have a save game that shows this? And do you mean alignment (morality) or morale (the happiness or lack thereof of your people)?
This is something I've often noticed. Normally, if morale (not morality) is disastrously low, it is shown as 1. Occasionally, it is shown as 0, usually when it's not quite so bad. I think there's a bit of code that must look something like:

So, is the AIs' new habit of building a resource starbase and then building a second undeveloped starbase right next to it a bug? Or a cunning strategy to make it harder for me to buy their resource starbases off them unless I've noted down the correct starbase's ID number? ~SDC~
