Yes, but for every game played at beginner level, you have to play something like ten times at maso to cancel it out.
Matthew Downie

Oi! No empire recruitment spam in the main forum! You're blatantly trying to recruit people into The Foundation (http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp?id=920)... Oh, wait, that's my empire. Carry on.
A party, eh? Well, you can count on me to be there, sitting in the corner, not drinking, and trying to look moody and interesting.
I thought that you had some underlying resentment of Theoden and Co, and felt that since they were not here to defend themselves, that I should do so for them.
Oh, I do have some resentment... But only a little bit.
good old Robert Heinlein - one of the greatest SF writers ever. Personally not 100% agreeing with his own view of the world(s)
Yes, if you read Stranger in a Strange Land carefully, he seems to be arguing in favour of the extermination of all 'inferior' people.
Non-A (damn I forgot the author)
Do you mean Null-A? That was another Van Vogt.
I was taken aback with the comment about how Matthew wanted to destroy the Guardians because the Guardians destroyed FotR.
That's the opposite of what I said. I said I didn't want to destroy the Guardians, even though they effectively destroyed the Fellowship. A bit of history here: The Fellowship consisted of me, Ricbayer, Theoden, Terl, Greldon, Lothmorg, Weyrleader and others (mostly retired). When Theoden left to found the Guardians, one or two
I'm not reading it. I'm typing with my eyes closed.
Still not sure about being Emperor. While I do have a natural desire to glorify myself and order gigantic statues built of me in cities across the world, I don't want to jeopardise the success of The System Lords. So, who'd be the most popular emperor? Technician's phenomenal score guarantees him a high profile, and I imagine he's gained a lot of friends along the way. He's also in a more practical time zone. Also, I may be too arrogant and cynical to inspire others. But will Technician
Oi! Stop reading this thread, Qwerk! It's for Guardians only!
You have a lot of confidence in us. It's a bit soon to start criticising us for being too dominating. I'm trying to attract enough active members to take us into first place, because I'm interested to see if we can do it. Whether we're trying to grab hold of all active players is irrelevant, since we obviously wouldn't succeed. I'm inclined to agree that it's not a good thing for one empire to build up an unshakeable lead. That's one of my motivations - ending the situation where no-one
I don't know what could have given you that idea. ;) Let's me check my dictionary to see if that's appropriate... decadent (noun) In decline; engaging in unrestrained self-indulgent gratification. Actually, that sounds kind of fun.
According to my hazy recollections of this conversation so far, we have the following leading nominations: Name: Geeks in Space The Hitch-Hikers Max Power The System Lords The Time Lords The Yor Masters Something else Emperor: Matthew Downie Technician Someone else Anything else that needs adding?
The Foundation sounds cool, but for a new empire in a place nearing the end of its operational life, it doesn't work well.
Asimov's Foundation was a new, energetic interstellar federation of planets that rose up to replace the decadent empire that had dominated the galaxy for far too long. Seems quite appropriate to me.
This is why i'm staying put and NOT moving into a larger , higher ranked empire
We're smaller than anyone. We have no members at all.
I have enough trouble seducing green alien babes as it is, without having you around to steal them from me.
I do like the various interpretations of 'System Lords'. I might like it better if they weren't the false gods from Stargate - would we all have to talk in strange deep voices and fail to execute Colonel O'Neill when we get the chance? Who gets to be a senator has yet to be decided. So has who gets to be the emperor. We need some sort of consitutional basis for making decisions of such gravity. Or maybe I could plagiarise someone else's constitution? That sounds easier. Let's s
The Lion Kings
Hm... Never really liked the philosophy of The Lion King. The lions' idea of a circle of life is one in which they return to the earth after they die of old age, while everyone else gets killed and eaten.
I wonder if we should start an empire which changes its name every week? Keep switching the obscure science-fiction reference, so as to attract the fanatics, and by the time we've changed the name to something else they'll be one of us. Like The Helliconians , The Foundation , The Culture , Dark Star , The Ramans , The Barrayarans , Battle School , Space Corps , The Fremen , The Space Marines , The Village , The Dancer
I think that the name needs work though.
The Yor House What's Yor's is Mine Yor Mama Sounds like a basis for an environmentally sound recycling project to me. We build the Yor, the Guardians destroy the Yor and return the components to us, and so the great circle of life can continue.
I quite like the Hitch-hiker concept... Though "Geeks in Space" is growing on me. We need to whittle it down to a shortlist.
while back you asked what SA stood for and I am surprised that Newfy didn't tell you. It stands for "Snacks Annomous"
Really? Google assured me it meant Sexaholics Anonymous. I was a bit unsure what you meant about meeting down at the crypt.
Maybe we should go back to an earlier idea and call it Civaholics Anonymous. The theme could be players who are hopelessly addicted to GalCiv and other strategy games. The two advantages are (a) we'd attract all the most active players, and (b) if any of our players retired, we could count that as a victory.
You think we should call it The MercenariesThe Space CavalryThe Galactic RebellionThe Post-HumansThe SmugglersThe Time TravellersThe Empire of ChaosThe DimensioneersThe MutantsThe Galactic GypsiesThe Psychic Guild?
Would be a good name if we wanted Peace Phoenix to be our emperor.
