Has anyone tried messing with the tech tree? In particular, say I wanted to take out the option for all players to perform planetary bombardment during planetary invasions. I suspect this would be more difficult than simply removing the tech planetary bombardment, and replacing the requirement for tech succeeding planetary bombardment with the preceeding tech in the tree. I'm going to experiment a bit, and report back in case anyone is interested in the result.

I think it would be good if instead of permanently lowering PQ, it would be better to make a certain number of tiles unusable to the point of requiring soil enhancement or habitat improvement. Seems a bit harsh to permanenttly lose PQ, especially if you're playing in a galaxy with precious few good planets. I know I'll never use planet bombardment, but I'd hate to see all my good worlds turn into barren wastelands by the AI.

I too have seen what the original poster has described, that is a post showing up in the main forum when one was viewing another forum. I thought I screwed up the first couple of times that my post ended up in the wrong forum, but I've learned that wasn't the case. I think I have found a workaround to the post going into the wrong forum issue: Edit your post, and change the forum feild at the top of the screen to the desired destination.

There are a few nitpicking whiners, like myself, who would like to change the turns lable from weeks to months, or even something else. I have done some thinking about it, and think it would be too much of a major change, too low priority, and quirte possibly (based on some responses by other forum members with regard to this topic) unpopular to make to the official game. That being said: Would it be possible for those who wish to tinker with changing the labels of turns to

Well, I have yet to finish a game. But I'd be suprised if it took much over 20 years. When I play, I don't pretend I am one guy ruling over the Earth (I like to play humans for some odd reason, go figure -see handle ), rather I pretend I am playing the entire human race. I hope this is moddable, so any people who want to change it themselves can. I just think having game time pass quicker would add

Yes, I am still holding a turd from the Clinton administration. But that is neither here nor there. I don't simply want to change it due to the population issue. I want to change it so my stint at running an empire lasts decades of game time as opposed to a few years.

Edit: Mods, I had meant to post this in the Modder forum (boy is my face red). Would one of you be so kind as to move it to the appropriate forum, I would be much obliged. In the main forum, in a post requesting for turns to changed from weeks to months, it has been said that it is possible for users to modify this. Does anyone know if this is the case?

I would absolutely love to mod it in! However, due to either my correctness that is it not possible without decompiling the game code, or merely due to my unfortunate ineptitude in finding the files I need to modify, I can't.

#62 by Citizen JoHud Monday, March 06, 2006 9:40 PM Here is why having the Devs make this change is a bad idea--- 1- They have stated that it is easily modded, so do it yourself. Is it indeed moddable? If you or anyone else would be so kind as to point me to the files I have to modify, I w

I get the need to not have planets, stars, and the distances between them to scale. But, about the population exploding, am I right about the educated adult clone farms? Don't worry, I know its just a game. And a darned good one at that.

Regarding #1. You shouldn't be able to see enemy ships in enemy territory out of range of your sensors, unless you have a lot of investment in espionage against that civ. Are you sure that the enemy is not in your sensor range? #2 Seems like a good idea to me, access in your territory should be something they should have to negotiate for, and encroachment should give you the option to threaten with war.

Exactly, what really bothers me though (and I must strain to keep suspension of disbelief) is how quickly humans replicate in the game. In a little over a year, I've gone from 5.00 billion to 24 billion souls. Maybe in the future they just clone fully grown and cybernetically educated adults? I can get over the scale stars versus planets, but the timescale is ludicrous! If I'd made the game, I'd of made turns months, if not years.

Didn't quite have the time to read all 366 replys (okay I did, but I'd rather play this game more in my free time) on this topic, but I saw at least two other fellows who wanted the ability to rename stars. Shouldn't be too terribly difficult, as the game allows us to rename planets, spaceships, and such. So I Xth, Xnd, or Xrd the request for renaming stars.

I appreciate your reply, and what you proposed does seem to be the only solution for now. But what I'd like to see implemented in the future either by an official update or a third party mod is an option to where the sector ownership of areas beyond those explored is invisible on the mini-map.
Not really: Jupiter, Saturn, and Uranus all have large moons, most of them terran, and two (Ganymede and Titan, IIRC) are/were considered candidates for potential extra-terrestrial life.
'Tis true, unfortunately, as mentioned above in reply #1 the game only has 5 planet slots per system. One thing that might be done would be to have the moons abstracted by having a planet called "gas giant moons" or some such.

Thanks for the quick and informative reply Staffa! :) I kinda had the idea of using just Mecury, Venus, Earth, Mars, and maybe Pluto, since gas planets would be kinda hard to colonize! LOL I could just use my imagination for the globe thing. Do you know where I can get info on how to set up my "realistic" solar system?

6 Replies 290 Views

Is it possible by modding to make a game start in the real solar system with all nine planets and have a actual globe of the earth shown when viewing earth? I think that would make the game way more enjoyable for me.
