Killa Koala and PBP, thank you for the tips. I have never played maso so appreciate the help at any level LOL. I don't know whether this huge score increase with maso and the nerf on sub-maso will be good for the metaverse or not. If the bump/nerf is perceived as too extreme, there seems to be a risk of alienating non-maso players but of course this was discussed before and here we are. Thanks for helping others move up his/her game because, to me, maso sounds insurmountable. Oh yeah, I have pos
musicfan55
Gerrakken It will be interesting to see the post-GCX follow-up. It appears that a lot more folks are playing maso now. As you say, it is getting more brutal. Top 10 players who don't play maso are uncommon and will become less common. Stay tuned. :) Rick
Thank you Ray for the notification of your blog and the link otherwise I would miss it. You always write great stuff. For the record . . . my average large tough game on 1.05 over nine games was about 17657 and in three games of 1.10 it is 17176 or about 3% lower if I did the math correctly. The high game on 1.05 was 17810 and the high game on 1.10 is 17580. Those are pretty close but the scoring does seem to be nerfed a little bit for tough level on 1.10 compared to 1.05. GCX
Here is a link to the Orion Strategy Guide for 1.05. There are a few changes in 1.1 but the basics are very good. Good luck and have fun. :) http://www.orionsector.com/pages/galciv/downloads/The_Unofficial_GalCiv_Strategy_Guide_v1_0.pdf Rick
Finished another 1.1 and the survey ship CTD is no longer a problem with the new patch. 1.1 is harder for me. Because of the sharks hatching from anomalies, the bloom is off the rose concerning auto-survey. I finally lost my Hero to a shark after escaping several times through speed and luck (on auto-survey). I didn't auto-survey again until I got a ranger. The mid game sharks can stomp a Death Knight too so beware. I guess the answer is to manually survey if want to keep the Hero in on
I just had an excalibur in the new GCX so it is still there. Stellar Cartography is still in the tech tree but by the time I researched it the yellows starts were known on my map and I forgot to see if the yellows look the same as 1.05 (brighter white with stellar cartography). Rick
the mod that causes to drengin music to be the same volume as other music instead of louder is my favorite so far Rick
There is now a new patch at stardock to fix the double-click survey ship bug. I just downloaded it but haven't tried it yet. Later . . . Rick
Thanks Cari and Stardock for fixing the survey CTD bug so quickly. Rick
Ray thanks for the link to the blog and your discussion of starbases. Theoden congrats on being promoted to veteran. You deserve it. Thanks everyone for the comments regarding the upgrade to 1.1. I finally took the plunge and immediately ran into the double-click survery ship CTD bug. I spent part of the day making sure the CTD was reproduceable (got really good re-booting my computer LOL). Then I winzipped the save game folder with the smart exception files and shipped it off to Cari.
-enable cheat keys in menu and then ctrl-L...woohoo! divides all resources and stars evenly among players. no more star rush that i always lose out to the computer (and no more ai beating me to a star or resource in a game...twice). now when i fall behind it's because i am not efficient, not because i had fewer planets to start with.
Interesting. That is getting pretty close to a "scenario game". I wonder if there is any way this can be balanced enough to allow it to be a
Well Ringworld is probably copyrighted too. Ring Federation is a little generic but might work. Hmmm . . LOL.
I've just finished my first 1.1 Maso game. A decent 50,750 score for a Maso Huge.
Ray congrats for the highest metaverse single game score ever. You are breaking your own records. :D I am still waiting to download 1.1 until everyone sounds happy about it. It seems 1.05 is working pretty well now that I changed the color setting and make sure I d
Gerakken thanks. As always, this is interesting. Rick
Thank you. :) Rick
Maxtipherous, We like folks who start threads in the strategy section so please consider the Fellowship of the Ring. Here is the link: http://www.galciv.com/metaverse/empires.asp?id=329 Happy gaming. :) Rick
I never put def on my starbases. Just don't be at war if you could lose something.
It is impossible to avoid war with sharks and pirates and they will often go for your resource starbases. That basic defense of +5 for only one constructor seems a pretty good value when there are hungry sharks around. Rick
Thanks for the follow-up Theoden. This makes me nervous to update to Gal Civ 1.1 since my 1.05 is submitting OK so far. Thanks Cari for the personal attention to this problem. Anyone else have anything to say about anomalous scores? Thanks. Rick
Hi Vincible. Happy to see you posting. When are you going to be able to submit a game? FOTR needs you. :D OK. Don't blink but I made number one on the large games board . . . at least until Ray plays large again. LOL. Never thought that would happen. Time to play some spades online and then Monday Night Football tonight. . . Bye. Rick
There have been some problems lately with anomalous games played on higher than normal levels. Anyone have any idea how to avoid these events? Rick
I bought Gal Civ from amazon.com but after reading how the developer can get hosed, I will buy an expansion pack from Stardock if they make one. Rick
I just submitted an anomalous score...I resubmitted but it didn't change. I've emailed Stardock, so hopefully it can get fixed.
That is scary. Keep us informed Theoden. A flurry of anomalous games for people who play above normal setting could ruin the metaverse if it can't be fixed. If the developers have any ideas about avoiding anomalous scores, we are certainly willing to listen. I started a thread on this but other than avoiding cranking on beginner and avoiding PQ b
I bought expansion packs for Total War, Age of Empires, Diablo, Civilization, and other good games. I would certainly consider doing this for Gal Civ. A Map Editor or something allowing "standard maps" (instead of Control-N) sounds especially fun. Keep up the good work. Rick
Sorry if this has been mentioned but the control-N to avoid bad starts is kind of a necessary nuisance. How about we have some set maps like other games do? I would like a map where the human and all the AI start with an equal distance from starfields or the game begin with each side having an equal number of planets or stars. The scenario maps and star battles maps may be fun too but I think a map where everyone gets an equal start and no one gets a bad start would be the most helpful. Then we
Killa Koala. Thanks. I use Gov. Ford for all planets so I will check this out. Alex. Congrats on top 25. Keep submitting those games. :D Rick
spread-out unclustered star setting (whatever that is called?).
. . . uh . . . "scattered" is the term. Doh!!! LOL Rick
