I don't do this anymore and I don't know if it still works with the new versions. I used to colonize weak planets, get the morality boost, then destroy the colony. The price was only one colony ship with minimum crew. At that time I had a great lust for trade centers and did what I could to get a 90% morality so I can build them. Now I don't care. Good, evil, neutral - who cares - just kick the AI's behind in a big way. The UP is a regular event, it may be like every 24 months

Take you time and have fun. Make sure you work on the economy. Getting the economy going is important at ALL levels of play and is the main impediment you need to master before reaching maso level. Let us know if you need more tips because this is where we learned too. :)

just wanted to make sure everyone saw Theoden's post on opening moves started last summer. There is some good stuff here: http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?id=90861&BID=GS&page=1#133641

Hi jab Here is a link to a strategy guide I learned from: http://www.orionsector.com/pages/galciv/downloads/The_Unofficial_GalCiv_Strategy_Guide_v1_0.pdf Gal Civ keeps changing so the most up to date guides are found picking through the threads - esp. in the strategy section. In the forum part there is a sticky by Frogboy that has useful links. I also like to chat about strategy in the Fellowship of Rings thread in the empire parts of the forum. If you like the discussion in th

Welcome to the forum. Try the strategy guide. It is for 1.05 I think but the basic concepts still hold. http://www.orionsector.com/pages/galciv/downloads/The_Unofficial_GalCiv_Strategy_Guide_v1_0.pdf At the top of the Galactic Forum in the sticky posts is a thread by Frogboy called Links to Useful Sites. That might help too. Good luck. :) [Message Edited]
3. (noob question) how do I build sattelites without using a constructor on a resource?
I think you mean that on a resource you can get prompted as to whether to build a starbase but you don't get prompted when not on a resource? You press the little button in the lower right part of the screen. I believe it has a box on it? On some versions you cannot build a starbase within 3 tiles of another starbase unless you are in a different sector. Hope this helps. :D

I did a search on logistics and only came up with 4 threads, one from frogboy but none really explaining the final logistics equation for AP. At first frogboy was saying the number of starbases might be limited to the square root of the population but I am not sure this is resolved. Here is the link http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?searchtext=logistics&BID=GF Just copy & paste the URL Peace and it seems to work with a little "Link logo". Anyone playing AP beta who cares to explain logis

Thanks Peace. That means it costs bc to build any basic starbase even before the mods? I think I get it. We have to figure out how much it costs to build 30 terror stars in one turn and add that to the 150,000 bc for 30 terror stars. . . I think, right?

114 Replies 10,650 Views

It cost me about 150,000 bc last game to build enough terror stars for an alpha strike on a gigantic rare. I had about 240,000 bc at the time. Thanks for the heads up on the new AP changes.

You can get the cash necessary if you get your trade going early . . . at least playing rare. One just has to make building freighters a really high priority. Or . . one can trade with the Alexians. Has AP stopped the cash trading with the Alexians? As vincible has noted early economics in maso can be "searching for Alexians". Finally somone posted in the FotR thread about "logistics" in AP invalidating the lightning alpha strike strategy. Can anyone explain AP logistics relati

I just signed on too for Ray to get a former number one medal. If anyone deserves it, Ray does. Yea, just dropped the 60k in there a moment ago and limped back into 5th place (hard to believe I used to be 3). I will pledge another 60k game by Friday Feb 6th or before so I don't become a "dormant veteran". LOL. Greldon and others who are submitting games, thank you so much. Although JackLEagle doesn't post, he is putting in games too. So if you read this JackLEagle, thank you. O

The empire score is relatively more affected by decay than the individual metaverse score. This is because the score is divided into 30 day blocks with each "old" block experiencing a 5% metaverse decay each 30 days. The personal profile score, which is used in team competition (Top Empires), has a 10% personal profile decay per old block each 30 days. In other words, there is more of a penalty for inactivity in the empire competition than in the individual metaverse scores. Hope this helps. :)

Hi HtL. I find if I play too much for speed, it is not as much fun for me. I deal with the aliens more than necessary, I check every few turns to make sure no one has gone cool or worse on me because sometimes I don't always understand why they don't like me except I am a weenie militarily. If I can find the Alexians, I try to get cash. This is especially helpful early before the trade routes kick in. Often by the time I get to the Alexians, it doesn't matter because my trade routes bri

I don't use warships and although win militarily, it is through culture bombing and terror stars. The size galaxy does not matter to me but learning to play gigantic takes practice. At first, it was maddening to have everything so tiny in the strategy map. The current 60k cap gives a huge advantage to gigantic maso players because we can just squeak out a win with a terror star alpha strike after being dominated all game and still get 60k. Last game I had 4 planets, zero trade goods/won

I hear ya. The best I did was number 3 for a while when my metaverse score was between 172407 and 483482. It is unlikely I will ever get close to number 3 again with all the big muscle turning out games so fast. On the other hand, I am thrilled there are new players tearing apart old records and am looking forward to continuing to play for a while although never at the rate I used to play. For a long time, I was chasing Solitair. Paul, in "metaverse time" we are both ancient but you qua
What type of galaxies work better at higher levels?
In addition to what vincible said (and I learned this from Ray and vincible), the tight clusters are best for maso because there are more unoccupied sectors. In maso the AI has big-time influence boosts and the tight clusters can give you the two sector or so breathing space you need to avoid early culture flips. On maso, if you get a colony adjacent to a major AI early, you will probably lose the system. If you get a co

Hi all. Just checking in. Hope everyone is doing well. Welcome to new empire members. Thanks everyone for submitting games. I have been busy lately with real life stuff so I submitted a huge maso that I had saved on the hard drive for "times like these" when I have trouble submitting one game per week. Right now, I am half way through a gig maso but have no more finished games saved. :SURPRISED: I am going to watch the senior bowl American college football all-star game tomor

Hi all. Just checking in. To use a well-worn phrase, "I can't believe how much has happened. I've only been absent from the forum a few days". LOL. Natavnik, when I play a huge or gigantic map, I find it much more fun to play rare and tight clusters. I used to play scattered, abundant in all my games but on a huge or gigantic that seems to take forever and is very tedious. Rare is great. You can win with 4 to 6 systems . . . if all goes well. ;) Glad those new medals arrived
