Hmmm, this changes my understanding of starbases quite a bit. They seem much more powerful now. With regard to the trading, as long as your little tiny freighter enters the sector with the starbase it will get the bonus? Or does it have to go through the exact spot where the starbase is?

I didn't even realize this was possible. How does one do it? Is it as good as building a starbase at a resource?
Sergey - I would be very interested in seeing you post your strategy for large maps, especially painful, crippling or masochistic. Also, what star density, galaxy size, and habitable planet frequency do you typically choose? What type of victory does your strategy aim for? Thanks ...
fsk - How'd they manage that, just a massive invasion force and brutal WMD tactics? You didn't have Earth well-defended enough? Or was it some nasty event?
Ah yes, the obscure, little-known double-click! That hadn't occurred to my battle-weary mind at 4:00 AM. There's more fuel for the GF's "come to bed now" argument! :)
It seems like there are rounds of battle where the 'toughest' ships from each stack attack each other. But which one is the 'toughest?' Is it by Hit Points, Defense Rating, Attack Rating? Does it depend upon who attacked who? I've heard that if starbases are involved they get attacked last. What about Colony ships, Transports, Sensor Drones, etc.? Any clarification is appreciated.
So are Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) frowned upon in the GalCiv universe? Will it affect my morality to gas my opponent, or some of the other even nastier tactics?
Yes Richard that does sound like a very frustrating scenario. Those pesky minors! Sounds like that's a 'feature' that could be toned down at least for future releases. It takes a long time and a lot of sacrifice to research dreadnaught tech. Having a new minor appear and open up a bargain basement tech shop just doesn't sound quite right. Talk about an equalizer ...
Yes you are correct Twirlip. When I sent a scout within sensor range sure enough the Drengin had a miltary starbase there already. It would be nice if the resource did not disappear from the map, but I guess that does convey some information. Brings up another question - is there any way to tell what upgrades an AI race has built on their starbases?
Is that true? Trade Goods acquired through a trade cannot be traded away to another race? Does this apply to the majors, minors, and human players?
Yeah I kinda figured that after I posted. I've observed this with the the AI set to "Normal" and I haven't yet tried any higher settings. Thanks.
Let's say for example I have a single BattleAxe defending a planet. Many times I've seen the AI throw corvette after corvette at it. A corvette might arrive every month for example. They each get destroyed, thereby building up the experience and effectiveness of my BattleAxe, and it's basically fully repaired by the time the next one arrives. Doesn't that sound ... well ... dumb? Shouldn't the AI build up a force of 10 Corvettes (or anything better it might have) and then attack with the st
If you put a couple ships on the starbase, each of which has less hit points than the starbase, the starbase will still get attacked first right? Until it's down below the hit point level of one of the defending ships? Will the starbase repair damage over time? How fast?
They're so awesome I'm very hesitant to give them to anyone else, even though some are willing to ante up quite a bit for them. What do you think? Only give it away to a race that is inferior and you're about to crush anyway?
And what negative effects are there (other than being unable to purchase anything)?
I know I applied the 1.04 patch, but how do I know if I have build 1.04.59 ?
Don't you guys have any backbone? Have you ever heard of peace through strength? Don't give those jackasses a dime! Let them try to take it and them slam them. ;) Of course, there is the RARE occasion where you need to pay someone off, but otherwise don't be a jellyfish. Military strength is an important part of the game ...
Thanks!
Or should they all get lumped in with the rest of the posts?
Spotted an unexploited military resource and sent a Constructor on its long journey there. A couple of turns later I went back to check on it and the resource was gone! The Autopilot destination pointed at empty space. I have the 1.04 patch installed. Is this a bug? I didn't think there were any resource-cloaking technologies ...
Overall fantastic game, very enjoyable. This nitpick is a little annoying however. I see a ship with an Autopilot destination, but I don't remember where I sent it. I click on the ship and poof, destination is cleared. Aaaargh! I know you can enable the option to show all Autopilot destinations on the mini-map but it should be easier than that to figure out where a ship is going. My 2 cents ...
