In my current game I decided to move down to a Medium map. Built a couple Battleships and realized that on a Medium map, that 0 Range really means Zero! Hmmm, an attack-oriented ship that can't actually get anywhere to attack. Pretty frustrating. I know I can build starbases in every sector between me and my enemy, but that's not very cost-effective and makes them an obvious target to cripple me again. Any suggestions? What techs or improvements can I build to extend my shi

I would not ask a brand new colony to build another colony ship as its first task - it likely won't have enough population yet to really take advantage of it. Depends on many factors of course ... Colony ships disappear after they drop their people. If you see one just 'sitting around,' then it's in orbit around a planet, waiting for you to hit the Arrow button, load some people on it, and launch it out of orbit. At the start of a game, I'll typically have Earth crank out 5-6
I agree Mr. Lucky, it's not hard to work around, as long as you REMEMBER! It's like paying for propaganda in a low-morale colony. I NEVER remember to cancel that when I've solved the morale problem. I guess it's a minor point, but from now on I will have to try to remember to un-fleet my ships right before I attack anything. And then to re-fleet them again so they can move together. Sigh ... maybe I'm just in a complaining mood today. We all know the game is great or we wouldn't be wasting
OronHaus: That brings up a related question that has bugged me for some time now. Let's say I have 3 frigates in an official 'fleet,' and I choose to attack a target with that fleet. It seems like one and only one attack happens - my 'best' ship attacks their 'best' ship. It might take me several turns to destroy the target. However, if the ships are not in a 'fleet' I can attack the same target 3 times on the same turn (once with each frigate). That's sounds more logical in many c
LifeWish: Certainly your point 1) is valid and I'm sure most people don't send their transports around unescorted. I'm not sure how well point 2) will work. It will always choose the 'best' ship to take the brunt of the attack, whatever the heck that means. I've heard conflicting opinions on how they decide which is the 'best' ship. I'm sure the developers at Stardock can decide what works best in the game. But I just want them to tell us what that is! The document
I'm becoming inclined to agree with you Gerakken about the War Party. I'd much rather have a Dreadnought with 50 hit points than a Frigate with 72.
Oh it's stinging alright! Basically crippled me and put me at the mercy of the Torians. I figured it was the morale thing. GOT to pay more attention to the happiness of those slaves!
My frigates seem to be able to wander quite a bit further than my battleships. The frigate has Speed 2 Range 2 (according to JavaScout). The Battleships have Speed 0 Range 0. When it says Range 2, what does that mean? 2 sectors from the nearest colony/starbase? Doesn't seem to make sense 'cause then the Battleships would never be able to leave your own sectors. Anyone know how that works?
Why? And how do I go about getting it back? I had the War Party in control and the Pacifists outvoted me.
RayChua, when you say you were "taking out dreads with ease by fleeting starfighters" were you attacking the Dreads, ar baiting them into attacking your SF fleets? How many SFs were in your fleets typically?
I'm not quite sure how to use this. I tried to ask the Drengin to attack the Torians with me, but it didn't seem to work. I clicked on "Attack With" and the Torians were not on the list that popped up. How is this supposed to be used to ask for help in a war?
Thanks for the tip RayChua. I didn't realize morale contributed that much to pop growth. I will adjust accordingly. By the way, you aren't by any chance the same Ray Chua that used to work at a company called Datability in NJ about 7 years ago? Probably not, but just in case ...
I'm in a game (Medium, Painful) where I own 6 decent planets and the best AI only owns 3. Yet their population is soaring above mine and I can't figure out why. Any suggestions?
... like the population can grow larger/faster? Can't seem to find a reference to that anywhere ...
Thanks Staffa, that does help.
I've read several posts now talking about a defensive bonus for fleets (as opposed to single ships), but I've seen none of the 'authorities' comment yet. If there is such a bonus, how does it work, etc., and shouldn't there be a corresponding bonus for fleets on the attack?
For either or both the 'in-game' score and/or the 'Metaverse' score? There definitely seem to be some factors that are weighted very heavily, and I'd like to know what those are.
Some fairly minor things, but I would definitely like to see them, especially when playing large maps or bigger: 1) Don't clear the autopilot destination when a ship is selected, or give us a way to restore it. 2) When a new turn begins, and you get the summary of what just got built on each planet, can the corresponding sector of the mini-map be highlighted so I know where that thing just got built? Hard to remember the names/locations of 30 systems.
I finally got it to work. I originally purchased the GalCiv CD alone, then upgraded to Drengin.net, which gave a new serial number. I had to convert my serial number in the Metaverse to the new one from Drengin.net, and then the score appeared.
I finally got my Metaverse submission to appear. I had originally purchased the GalCiv standalone CD, then upgraded later to Drengin.net. I had to convert my serial number to the new Drengin.net number, then it appeared.
Running 1.05.069. Just tried to submit my first game to the Metaverse. Tried 4-5 times. Each time it said the submission was successful, but my score does not appear on the Metaverse. Any possible suggestions?
Thanks Code Monkey. Tried everything you said but no luck. I upgraded to 1.05.069, loaded my last turn, and this time it told me my score was 3247 (7714 Mpts). I submitted to Metaverse, it told me it was successful, but still no score appears there. Also, the score still seems WAY too high for one game. Oh well ... so much for the Metaverse ...
I FINALLY finished my first GalCiv game after 2 weeks (it was a large map and I have a job, OK?) After the game ended, it said my score was ~3000, but it also said my Metaverse score was ~8000. Sounded strange to me. But I typed in my info to do the Metaverse submission, didn't get any confirmation that it succeeded, and I don't see my score in the Metaverse. I'm running 1.04a.062. Does it take time for your score to get merged into the Metaverse? And also, doesn't a score of 8,000 for one
Thanks to all responders. Makes sense now, and I just assumed control of a _pretty_ nice manufacturing capital ...
I just conquered a Drengin planet with PQ 43. It had Soil Enhancement and Habitat Improvement, but no other PQ modifiers. This means it must have started with PQ ~ 36. Anyone else run into planets that good?
