I use the minimap alot to remember where the resources are. It can get hard to see them when the maps gets busy. Maybe a new type of map is in order - like the tactical one. How about one where the resources are oversized and easier to see? Adding to the recipe - how about one that tells you what type the resource is - not just a cross. How about the map telling you if you are mining the resource yet (at level 1, level 2, etc) or just have military SB there? Adding in some

>:( I don't beleive Stardock has not seen a dime yet! After all my whining about my $40 - the crew at Stardock puts up with a lot. I just might subscribe to Dregnin.net now to help them along :)
Hey Dark - just wanted to be sure about something. Are you doing the land grab thing - run military production up to 100% and grabbing all the planets you can? Then settle back to 50% research and 50% econ? It's a tactic I've seen described here and it works for me in the lower level games.
Qui-Gon - of all people you should know being just a 'half' is not a good thing - just like your buddy Darth Maul found out. Sorry - couldn't resist..... I think the resolution question comes up because of the limited area a ship sees at the current setting. I had a boost in sensor range that made a corvette have a sensor range greater then what I could see on the screen. I was using the corvette to scout out uncharted territory for my survey ship to find anomalies.
Maybe we need a wish list of how (realistically) we would like alliances to work. Maybe the diplomacy needs to be fleshed out to more layers - no relations to trade partner to military assist to full fledged ally - or something to that affect. I think a lot of us MOO2 players expect things like alliances to work a certain way and get caught off guard. :p
Primus - I have the same issue if I insert the GalCiv CD into my computer when switching from my kids' CD. The autoplay feature kicks in loading the menu but if I try to 'play game', it never loads the game for some reason. I usually just quit when the autoplay comes up, the go through the start menu like you described. And amen to the only stupid question is the unasked one! :D
Two interesting ideas, tof :) 1. Maybe it a possible mod that you can leave in the tweak the races or just pick the overall game level. Maybe same thing could be setup with planet density and galaxy size - let me pick size and let game randomly pick density, PQ etc. That way the tweakers are happy they still have full control but once you get good at every level - put a little mystery back in the game. 2. Ah, memories of the camel parade towards the Wonder capital in Civ....
Gengsta great list and great comments - I could not figure out why some higher projects had a horrendous maintenance cost and gave lower bonus then the lower projects. Looks like the project list could use some tweaking to me. ;)
Just visited the site and noticed that GOTM is listed as May 2003. Is there a July version somewhere that I obviously amd missing? This is a great idea by the way....
I own both games and they are very different. I think MOO3 died under the weight of its own expectations. Pontius's wife's crack put a major smile on my face. And NunoPedro is right - most of us here are disgruntled MOO fans. Salamander - free speech allows us to bash the game here. Just face the fact some people don't like a game that you do. Both games have their good points and bad. I actually like the combat scenes in MOO3 - take admiral's view of battle (I didn't get
How much Jolt would you need to drink to continuously play GalCiv to crack into the top 25 now? LOL
Thanks for the tip Boogie Glad to see great idea implemented so quickly
If there ever was a reason to have multiplayer, this is it. Trash talking gets you targeted by the better players for a major smackdown. :p
Hey Malaphar - had any luck? I'm not great at this game but did win one the other night. Drop me a line here if you're still stuck :)
LOL Galactic Imperium - now there's a trip down memory lane. I still have my Atari 800XL - not been turned on for years. Pete Harris is dead on with the chess analogy - this is a easy game to learn (lousy manual not withstanding) but very difficult to master
I second the motion to go to JavaScout's website. He hacked the program code and gifured out what stuff does. Thank goodness for people like him :D
To add your own page numbers: Save document Open document Click View to Header and Footer Scroll till you see a box called Footer and left click in it You should see a toolbar called Header and footer with a button that looks like white page with blue # on it. If you left click this you should see a page number pop up. You can highlight this number and center it (look for lines buttons for Centering - middle button) Click the close button at right end of Header
Hey Yellowsign - nice tip on the whole 'do it in secret' idea. I'd rather be surprised with a working game then have Stardock pressured by fanboy fever to hit a deadline..... :D
I have to agree about GalCiv being better then MOO3. I followed the MOO3 saga from the net for a while and didn't like the turn it took when Alan Eimrich (who wrote a great hint book for Civ) was released from the project. Overall I think it was too ambitious an idea to deliver. GalCiv seems to play somewhat cleaner but I am still stumbling around in my second game. I was really disappointed in the manual and did flame on it a bit. It seems to be a trend nowadays to skimp on
Great topic - this is what gaming is all about - sharing ideas and helping others. I am struggling with a lot of the basic 'how to' issues of the game and I'm sure I'm not alone. I like the idea of huge html file or zip file user can search offline. The GalCiv site does have 5 games a developer played but the level of detail is very general and in my opinion of little use to a newbie. Some 'how to' items the manual missed in my opinion: How to settle second p
Great topic - not many users have mucho dough to have latest and greatest machines.... I just upgraded from my 200MMx to 2.2GHz - old workhorse saw me through some great games.... :p ~SDC~
I have been a CGW reader since mid 80s - and find the reviews to be helpful. I agree the price jumped with CD but found demos to be good way to peek at games. Bought MOO3 but got away with $40 hit at CompUSA - they discounted first week it was out. I found that if you wait about a year for so-so games they drop in price to $10 to $20. Just picked up Conquest for $3.50, Civ - Call to Power for $5, Starfleet Command Pirates for $20. CGW calls is Dumpster diving. LOL
LOL :D :) Dude you are the best! I was disappointed in this game because of the manual (all too common a problem nowadays). I could tell there is a great game in here somewhere - I just felt so lost. Its amazing how a 20 page pdf can change your outlook on life! Send your resume to Strategy First - it looks like they need som emanual writers with your skills - fell free to use me as a reference.
