The second option of the four is the least expensive when you do the math, so if you 'must' buy things, I find it's the best way to go
Not all the time. If the project is cheap, or if you do some amount of regular building on a more expensive project, so that it's 40-60% complete, then the 2nd option is cheaper. Otherwise, the first option is the cheapest.
Although I love playing this game so much I took Tuesday off to enjoy it, there are few things about the interface that I feel need improvement. A pulldown menu to select which 'sort by' you want for the planets would be nice. I find it a bit irritating to have to constantly scroll back and forth through the selections to get the list I want. Being able to customize this list would be nice so I could put class, income and production side by side (the three I use most).
OM
But, if all we do is research morale improvements that won't leave us much research for other techs. Help!
I never said that. By the time my top planet is building its 3rd Morale improvement, I have probably got 40-50 techs, and about 4-5 Morale improvements to choose from. I have yet to build more than 3 "pure" morale improvements on a planet. Between other improvements that add a little Morale (in addition to other abilities), anomalies, and Morale resources, I've wo

You can have more than three saved games. You can only have 2 auto-saves though. As long as you have saved the latest turn of a game, does it really matter if the auto-saves now belong to the new game? And if it does, then move the auto-saves to a different directory, so you can move them back later if you need them.

I've had no Morale problems at all, up to and including crippling difficulty. Only colonize planets that can be PQ16 once you build soil enhancement and habitat improvement (PQ14 to start, PQ13 if you take the PQ+5% starting ability). Keep your tax rate around 35%, keep your treasury out of the red, and put the Morale improvements in your Governor's queues. Depending on how many Morale resources I can grab (or if I choose the populists party), I put the Morale improvements every 4th t

I have one small problem with that... If I am kicking their butts, and want to offer an end to the war, but for a price, and they have no techs or money, then I am prevented from extorting ships/starbases from them. Oh well.

There's an awesome Excel spreadsheet/flowchart on ZiaH's web page, with only 2 problems: It's a few versions old, so some of the costs/benefits are listed incorrectly, and the chart can't be modified (at least I can't figure it out). It is quite large, but I have found that if I tell it to print onto 2 x 2 pages (portrait), it is still very legible.

2 ways to do it: Select a ship in the tile, then either hit the "f" key, or click the little icon on the right side of the "ship box" on the right side of the screen. It's where you see all the little icons that represent the ships in that tile.

I played EQ for 2.5 years as well. I basically quit because it took too much time to really accomplish anything, and it usually had to be big blocks of time. I'm not surprised SWG looks good though, VI/Sony created an excellent product in EQ, and I'm sure they learned what to improve upon for this next project. Now I'm back to strategy games (what I used to play before EQ), and I love the non-multiplayer form of GC. It's perfect for where I'm at now, I can get up from the key
The catch-22 of the higher difficulty issues is that a large chunk of your score comes from things like wonders, dominating in tech, economy, culture, etc, and these things are much easier to achieve on lower difficulties. So, although you are given a bonus for increasing the difficulty, the gains from doing so are largely offset by lowering of your base score due to the fact that the game is harder.
Except, as I had stated in the original post, I had LOTS more techs and

I just finished my first painful game last night, and was rather dissapointed with the Metaverse score it got, especially relative to my previous game. If you have any insight as to what's up with this, please comment. OK, here's some of the relavent stats, I'll call them game5 (last night's game) and game4 (last week's game): Game4: Medium, standard AI alignments, all "Bright" (Challenging) Game5: Medium, standard AI alignments, all "Intelligent" (Painful) In-g

Well, from a relative newbie perspective (I'm only on my 5th game, currently played at painful level), I LOVE sensors +4, it makes early scouting go much quicker, and once you get EotU completed, the sensor range is just sick =) My current game is the first one I've played without any Diplomacy bonuses, and that combined with this being my first painful-level game, have made for a very tough start of the game. Although now that I have diplomatic translators, it's going much better.
has anyone noticed that the second option Terran Manufacturers??? is ridiculously overpriced? I think you end up paying more in total than for the third option
Definitely not what I've seen. In fact, the second one is often cheaper than buting it outright (1st one), AND it's spread out over time, so even better! Of course, I just remembered, the prices of the four options relative to each other changes as you make progress into the item. In other words, if you

OK, available RAM will have a much bigger impact than processor speed, 733MHz should be fine. My guess is you have 256MB of RAM, which is really not enough for modern Windows (is that an oxymoron? =) systems. Once you reach a critical point with disk swapping, it's all over, the PC just spends all its time swapping out pages of RAM and doing very little actual "computing". Also, someone posted in an earlier thread that there is a small memory leak in the app. Try saving the game, exi
