OK, personal opinion here: 256MB is not enough RAM for newer PCs, just running Windows takes most of that =) I bet upgrading your PC to 512MB would make a lot of difference, and memory is CHEAP these days, so it wouldn't cost a lot to try. As the game size increases (and in later turns, the number of ships, starbases, inhabited planets, etc), the data generated grows quickly, and if it doesn't all fit in RAM, then it's swap time. And disk swapping is the number one ca

This is for the demo, if it makes a difference. Getting full version tonight. I'm in my third game now, played with "common" habitable planets in the last two games (first was uncommon). Second game didn't keep numbers, but good planets (15+) didn't seem very common. In the current game (small, 5x5, same as second game), there are 15 stars in the 12 sectors in my corner of the galaxy, I started far from everyone else.
Wait, hold the bus. You cannot win culturally before 2190. That is a hidden requirement. It might be 2191, but there is definitely a minimum time limit until the timer can start.
That's strange. I just got the Demo last weekend (getting full version today for Father's Day, thanks kids =), and finished a cultural victory game last night in 2187, and got the win screen. Does the 2190 limit only apply for galaxies of certain sizes? Or is it because the demo is a few versi

Well, yeah, I know how to do that, but that's leasing COLONY SHIPS, not colonists. The colonists come off of your planets, correct? Which reminds me of an annoying feature I noticed, which I'll post in another thread.

From original post: "2. lease some colonists from Mitrosoft as it suggested in the manual (how did that get into the manual?)" OK, I'll bite, how do you 'lease colonists'? I looked in the manual and didn't see it anywhere.

I just played my first game with the demo version (great game!), and ended (time expired) with 2 of 5 allies and the other 3 friendly, and also with cultural domination and 12 months to go to win that way. So I was close to winning two different ways. I have the game saved the turn before it ends. If I get the commercial version, and load this save game, can I then continue it on to victory?
