Is your user pic missing from the start panel too? If the pic is missing and you can't change the fast user switching on the control panel, you might need to right click the start button and Open all Users, then I think this is it, right click on the Programs folder and Properties, then check the Sharing & Customize tabs. It has to do with being set up for a network and security. I had the same problem with XP Pro on my laptop. After you have unchecked the Sharing button
