Is that the common theme? Created personalities can't win? I suspect that's it. I also am having this same issue come up with a created personality. I appreciate the explanations people are trying to provide to Dearmad (and, thus, indirectly to myself, the founder of the Carter creams me thread), but they aren't right. The AI doesn't use political operatives at normal difficulty or in the second campaign mode much, if at al

Can I send a save game in for a diagnostic of this?
I notice that too. That happens a lot when I'm viewing the newspaper summary.
I'm not an expert on this game, but if its not interviews, political operatives, advertising, issue ratings, and the state's breakdown between GOP and Democrats, what could it be? I'm with Dearmad. I can't see how this isn't a bug. I guess it could be some really hidden thing in the game, but in my games, I'm winning on most every top 5 issue in the states in question and still getting creamed.
I didn't mean to sound rude, Frogboy. I meant to say I think that's not it, rather than I think not. Sorry for seeming rude.
This has to be a bug of some kind. Are you guys playing campaign mode too?
I think not, Frogboy. I am experiencing the same problem as Dearmad playing as a Republican v. Carter and have only done one interview, after which the paper applauded my performance as boosting my status among independents (the interview took place in Conn). There is something else at work here. The AI in the Campaign or on certain difficulty levels seems to have some kind of an ability to "steal" states in the last quarter of the c
That's exactly like my situation and must be some kind of "bug" with the scaled difficulty levels. Its good to know, at least, that its not a GOP v. Democrat thing since its happening to you as a Democrat and me as a Republican.
Let me just point out one state that I can't figure out in this campaign. Week 41: Texas Carter: 50% Me: 41% Awareness: 92% 100% More Jobs: 37 49 Iraq: -8 34 Terror: 5 34 HQ L
My awareness is 100% in the states that matter. Furthermore, in my latest attempt to defeat Carter, I spent the last 10 weeks doing nothing but giving speeches in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Texas and Florida. I have yet to win a single one, despite starting ahead of Carter in all of them in week 30. I have TONS of ads in Texas, Florida, and Illinois. I have webmasters in Ill and FLA and a movie producer in Florida. I have three TV ads in Flo
There is something fundamental that I am not understanding about the game. In week 30, I was leading handily nationally and was certainly beating Carter by at least 8 points in Texas, Florida, New York, Ohio, and Illinois. Within two weeks, Carter had turned all of those states Democratic, and by the end of the campaign, he had won with me only polling 172 electoral votes. He did this despite not winning a single issue in any of the
They do get 3 electoral votes you know. Did you roll those three votes into Maryland, eliminate them entirely (which throws off the 271-270 calculation), or what? I know the District is denied Congressional representation, but its probably not right to deny them their electoral votes.
I am. Virtually every time.
In my first campaign game, General Clark picked himself as a running mate. I assume this is a bug.
Activists can be extremely powerful. In two of my games getting a Hollywood producer gave me a big chance to upset the Democrat in California (you have to love 225k ads maintained at 7k per turn). I think this feature should be changed. Or at least an option put in.
Completely agree. I'd also like to see the popular vote breakdown state by state. Plus have an option to save the endgame for later review.
Agree with most of what the reviewer said. My first impressions are that the game is great but needs a few tweaks. 1. Much, much slower election night results. It goes way too fast. I'd like to savor each state result. 2. More ways to increase national awareness. If I don't visit Idaho, the 70-30 ratio of Republicans to Democrats should still deliver the state to Bush in most cases. 3. Endorsements are too powerful.
Fair enough. Just voicing my theoretical concerns. I'm sure I'll get the hang of doing it, I just don't like the idea of using my reflexes in this kind of game.
Frogboy, But is manual reflexes and arcadey style point and clicking really the kind of skill Political Machine is supposed to be testing? It just seems silly in a game with so much strategy and depth that a major part of the game is decided by who clicks fastest. I didn't buy the game to hone my fast clicking reflexes.
I could provide the save game if you wish. The frozen candidate problem never goes away.
The frozen candidate bug is worse than I thought. I think that the AI, once it was frozen in Washington, could not place ads anywhere but Washington. Furthermore, once my running mate appeared, I could not select him. My other system specs: Intel Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz 1024 RAM Direct X 9.0b ATI Radeon 9800 128MB video memory Sound Blaster Audigy Anything else?
To start, I am using Direct X 9.0b on an ATI Radeon 9800 using the Dec 2003 drivers (6.14.0010.6414 from December 12th 2003). But I'm pretty sure these glitches have nothing to with my card, they seem to be minor bugs. 1. Sometimes the map will not update when a candidate moves. The candidate icon will stay in a state forever, while his plane zips around the nation showing his real location. The game will show all events as occuring in the
I agree with you in terms of a multiplayer game, but against the AI having something be real time gives the AI an enormous advantage. I've only played a few Bush v. Kerry games (losing both because I still havent' got the knack for how to not run out of money in week 31-35) and Kerry grabs those ? immediately when they pop up. Its just an unfair AI advantage. You need to cause the turn to pause when the turn changes. Mine does not
I'm not sure how this could have survived any beta testing, but why are the special events claimed in a real time format? The AI can grab those special events before I even see that they exist and this is a huge advantage over the course of the game. The turn changes from one week to the next and before I know what has happened (sometimes when the news summary is popping up), the AI candidate is popping around the map grabbing the special eve
