LOL at this thread. Reminds me of the dawn of computing power. "Hey guis, wouldn't it be cool if the map had more than just monsters and NPCs, like, I don't know, horses and cows?" "Hey guis, wouldn't it be cool if we can kill those horses and cows?" "Hey guis, wouldn't it be cool if we can bbq the meat from those horses and cows?" "Hey guis, wouldn't it be cool if our heroes can eat bbq?" "Hey guis, wouldn't it be cool if

So odd there are so many people ITT wasting time posting when they should be playing Sins instead. +1 for no tactical combat. Liked C&C series and WC series. Loved HW2 (but had to use infinite gold cheat - why even bother with resource management if the focus is on combat?) and SC2 (there's your pure tactical combat). But did not like SoaSE at all. 4x and RTS just don't mesh. And if it's not real-time, it just gets too tedious (as
The diplomacy system would have to be overhauled, right now I don't play with it at all as a result of the sheer volume of nonsenslical, strategy-breaking AI demands. Demands need to be context sensitive based on the current situation, so that you don't have allies who demand you open up another front in a war you're both losing or the like.
This makes sense, though even with GalCiv 2, it seemed to me that AI "diplomacy" involved merely tributes/extortions based on relat
indeed, after you win, you are stuck in a "win" position, as are your allies at the timetherefore, the AI can't lose (and thus be eliminated) because they have already wonive come across this before in my games, and it is more or less a way of saying "Game over, you win, but you can keep playing even though there is no point if you want to."
Thanks. This is extremely helpful, though it is a bizarre result (and I don't recall GalCiv2 having this problem), especially given

I'm new to the game, so pardon the dumb question. Is there any reason why I might not be seeing the ship? Does Visari have cloaking device, or do ion/plasma storm obscure ships? I have built structures in every single field, and when I zoom in I do not see any Visari ships. The empire bar on the left also doesn't show any ships. Do I have to send ships into un-colonizable fields to actually see the rogue ship? Thanks in advance for helping out a newbie.

I was playing a 3 player free for all versus 2 easy AIs on the only the map that allows 3 players (1 star, 19 planets, the map says something about centrifugal forces). I kill the Advent first while in an alliance with the Visari. Game says I win and ask if I wish to keep playing. I say yes, and immediately the Visari break their alliance with me. Fast forward, I take Visari's last planet. They are still alive. I take their 2 remaining astroids, and they ar

Since your commentary is so AI-centric, perhaps you should play on tough which runs AI at 100% rather than challenging which handicaps the AI.

This is pathetic. You can't beat the AI so it must be cheating? Search the forum first to see what YOU are doing wrong before laying down your criticisms in such broad strokes.

Duh! It's 1 turn per week. I don't know why I was thinking 1 turn per month. Still a damn impressive feat though. Now if someone can do it in 24-30 turns like I was thinking.... P.S. Suicidal/Gigantic by military conquest in 1 year scores less tha 50,000 points? Now I'm totally confused by how scores are tallied. You'd think it's much, much harder to win earlier versus improving population/economy/influence/military/technology.

So I was looking at the Metaverse high scores and noticed that the current #4 (link) has a couple of games on Gigantic/Suicidal that were won by military conquest in 2-3 years?!! How is that even possible? Especially within 24-30 turns, that's not even enough to research/manufacture sufficiently speedy or long ranged troop transports to cross the galaxy. I'm completely baffled. Any ideas?

Maybe one day they will have fixed them all and can turn their attention to all the incorrect text that has been in the game since it's release. Oh the irony.

Has anyone tried what happens when you surround an enemy planet with your ships? Can they no longer launch, or do their ships just launch to the next closest unoccupied space? I tried this tactic against the DL for the last campaign scenario, but they never launched, and based on what I read here, it might not be because they can't -- it's more likely that they just don't. Anyone tried this tactic elsewhere?

It's all luck of the draw. On the campaign, I have also encountered scenarios where the DL got lucky and got a defense and logistics techs from taking over planets. It's game over after that. No way anyone can go up against 4x 30hp/400atk/150def frigates. I have had that happen to me on at least 2 scenarios during my campaign (but luckily both times I was on the verge of blitzing the last DL planet by that point). Beware of what you wish for.
